    This is the pinnacle of Civ for me! Especially because it enabled some of the best fan-made mods of gaming history. For example pie's ancient Europe, a total conversion to a game set in antiquity or Master of Mana, which has a research tree for culture, spells and religion in addition to normal research. Furthermore there was the Civ4 Colonization version with the great mods Religion and Revolution and the current version We the People. These mods took Civ4 to a whole new level of gaming. (And there are many others)

      @@TheFranchiseCAYes, that one showed that you can have a campaign and really cool story in a 4x game. The mentioned Master of Mana is a modmod of FFH2. I always consider civ4 bts one of the best games of all time but I always forget that I cannot play bts anymore because it's so much, much worse than these mods. Some of these are even still developed after all these years and still getting better.

    The greatest game of the franchise and where Civ peaked. The best AI, the best mods and total conversions (Rhyse and Fall, Dune Wars, and of course Fall from Heaven 2), excellent scenarios like Road to War, Future War and Afterworld, and the last time mechanics felt impactful pre 5 and 6. Many a new player will harp on stacks of doom, yet this saved so much time in the end time compared to what came after. The AI was actually a challenge, could move and plan and actually felt like a true test of intellect in every game. Here’s hoping 7 recaptures some of the magic that made 4 so great and enduring.

    This game even kind of appealed to my grandmother- she liked its great music and seeing the animated leaders (some of them with real-life terms in office that she remembered) when I would choose a civilization.
    When the expansion came out, she also laughed the first time I mentioned Korean leader Wang Kon, as she wondered if I was swearing. (It at least sounds a bit rude in Britain anyway.)

      It should be possible to fool most games. Track down the current menu music in the game files and take note of the name. Then copy over the Baba Yetu file to that folder and give it the same name as the menu music you replaced. You might need to convert the music first. I know Civ IV uses .mp3 and Civ V (the file is located in one of the DLC folders if you use them) uses .WAV, for example. But I remember doing this back in the day. The game should not be able to tell the difference if the name and file extension are right and play Baba Yetu.

      @@UUUU-dn9wz It's Vox Populi that turned the game in to an actual Civilization experience. Civ V, even with all the expansions, might've been polished, but it was still a mediocre game. It had basically one best, game-winning strategy (Tradition->Patronage->Rationalism, tall play).
      There were way too many 'fake choices', where theoretically you could choose between various options, but one was always much better than the rest.
      Plus the game lacked other aspects of strategic flexibility which was present in Civ IV, like the Science/Wealth/Culture slider.
      It's one of those games that I had played quite a bit back in the day, especially after Vox Populi came out, but to which I will never return again. And I still play a game of Civ IV every now and then.

    The best Civilization game made so far. It truly felt like a march of history and was just the right mix of complexity and realism with comic caricatures of well known personalities and legends. I really do hope we see a game like this someday again. The majesty of watching the Earth light up with artificial lights and then with the sun to the tune of Baba Yetu really set the tone. It's ironic that Civilization regressed back to 2D static backgrounds and bland music for the menus. They should really revisit Civs 3 and 4 again even if it came as a spin off.

    Civilization V had a Great intro and art style and the Realistic Style of the leader added onto it and had wonderful Music which the honor goes to the Main Menu and Intro music.

    Best Civ, hands down. I sure hope VII brings back some form of stacks or will not be buying.... what's the point when this game is so good as is ? Civ IV with updated graphics and just a few of the actually good features from 5/6 is the dream... will keep playing IV and not buying new ones until we see something along those lines.

    I can't say it was the best. Even when it came out I tried it and went back to Civ 3 immediately (which for me had better graphics in terms of coloring and brightness). After some time I finally made the transition, but then Civ 5 came out and for the most part it was far better for me (except for AI). Later when I tried to return and play a modpack in Civ IV with a friend, the game desynched all the time, so that was another throwback. Overall it is a good game, with best AI in the franchise, but still had issues that made me not loving it.
    The song though... man, I took the audio file from Civ 4 and replaced all of the menu civ songs in other versions of the game. It is a masterpiece.

    Civ4 definitely was the best civ these past twenty years. Good music, great moddability, graphics weren't the dominant thing, the social structure mechanism were well understood (as they were copied over from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri) and the menu's weren't needlessly overblown. Sure, it had doomstacks and really bad terrain with it's classic quadratic map but it worked for what it did. If we backported 1UPT, Hex terrain and better religions, heck, add a good ai on top of that and it would be the CIV for all times.

    • @The360MlgNoscoper
      @The360MlgNoscoper หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you added all of those things it would not be civ4. Better religion maybe, ai is it's own thing. But Tiles and Stacks are a core part of Civ 4. It would not work any other way.

    • @xerxes299
      @xerxes299 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@The360MlgNoscoper I don't think so. For me it's the event structure, the social mechanism, the leonard nemoy voice for the techs...all the little things, not stacks or square tiles. But it's an interesting idea, whether we lose the soul of a thing in backporting changes from what we've learned worked better.

      Stacks are the best feature of Civ IV because they make the AI dangerous and reduce tedium. 1 UPT is the worst feature of 5/6.

      @@kikevsakahigePick a civ that works with your victory type, abuse Magnus trade routes by building a commercial hub or harbor 1st in every city, send trade route back to capital, mine every hill, try not to build too many builders before feudalism as they scale in cost per builder built, early game culture is way more valuable than early science, and finally district projects are the only “building” not balanced by game speed (they are really op on online, ok on quick, bad on standard or below).
