    (No coins were harmed in this filming of this video)
    You can try peeling it off with a screwdriver, hitting it with a blow-torch, or just smack it with a hammer against some concrete and chisel it until it peels off. Or, just watch this video.

    acetone is indeed a fairly aggressive chemical. you did alright with a large silver coin overnight, but I learned the hard way not to use it for an extended time on base metal coins. I left a couple of small base metal coins in acetone over a weekend ... it was many years ago so memory in inexact ... such as aluminum or zinc coins from the Vatican and Italy ... and the coins pretty much dissolved all the surfaces of the coins leaving me with not much more than slugs. so it was indeed a good thing that you did not spill any on your laminate tabletop!

      Silver Husky I was surprised how well it worked! Now doing that did it remove the price to spot been seeing if you even clean a coin it removes and cost to spot? I just got a few silver coins but have some sticky stuff on them but wanted to clean them. Do it or don’t?

    • @SilverHusky12
      @SilverHusky12  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ink Scars as I understand it, this coin would still retain its premium value, as there was no mechanical cleaning. The process only removed surface junk. It didn’t remove any tarnish, just the resin.

    Just removed a 3” medallion from a block of acrylic or resin. Cut it down as much as possible without damaging the coin. Then used acetone to dissolve the rest of the acrylic resin. Worked like a charm. I used pure acetone from the hardware store. Let it soak about 1.5 days. Hardest part was trying to find a container for the acetone bath. I used a metal can with a lid. A glass mason jar would work as well. In my opinion after doing this, I’m convinced the acetone is the best way to remove these coins without damaging them.

    • @SilverHusky12
      @SilverHusky12  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I 100% agree. Works so well!

    • @JoseSerrano-ct2rf
      @JoseSerrano-ct2rf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another interesting side note. The 3” bronze medallion I removed from the acrylic block dated to the 1970s. It was shinny bright when sealed and when I dissolved the acrylic with acetone. But it tarnished shortly thereafter with a beautiful patina, almost as if it was exposed to air over its 50 year life. Very weird to watch this happen. But, I’m very happy with the results. The patina looks amazing. As if it aged 50 years in one week, once it was freed from the acrylic.

    I have heard that it is not a good idea to mix acetone and plastic as it will eat through some types of plastic.
    This coin was likely part of a piece of jewelry, which could explain the dings on it.
    I would get it weighed to see if there is a significant amount of gold on it (even a gram is worth about $70)
