It's notable how so few other trains there are enroute and so few passengers there are waiting on the platforms at stations. Train services not so frequent back in those days!
Shame about the raindrops on the window - but at least the camcorder was fix-focussed on infinity; a modern action camera might have auto-focussed on the raindrops and rendered the view outside out of focus. And, yes, I've seen videos like that :-( Interesting to compare against the Google Streetview aerial photos - lots of factory buidings in Derby have either been razed to the ground, leaving waste ground or else have been replaced by modern buildings.
Derby to Bristol via Camp Hill, the Gloucester avoiding line, and Charfield goods loop, with no Cam & Dursley, and Filton instead of Filton Abbey Wood, in "the oldest DMU on BR" (2:02:55). Love it. And does he call Stoke Gifford "Stoke Ifford" (2:19:52)?
I thought at first that this was a Structure Gauging Train run, but on hearing the discussion I think it must be DB975010 Iris, the Radio Survey Unit - which was built in 1956. The original Ultrasonic Test Train was built in 1954 (DB975007/975008). The replacement Ultrasonic Test Unit power cars (DB977391/392) were built in 1956/7 and converted in 1987 at Cathays, but that had Auto Air and EP Brakes fitted at conversion; in this video you can clearly hear the Vacuum Brake in use. So, it is probably Iris. The original UTT was in semi-retirement at Reading Depot by this point - so Iris would be the oldest DMU in use in 1992.
He doesn't seem to have researched his line names. I'm guessing here, but can anyone confirm? DC= Down Cheltenham, DB= Down Badminton, DF= Down Filton?
Excellent ride out for a jolly boy's outing when learning their craft, happy memories of travelling that route in days gone by.
Amazing video capturing a lot of history especially the electrification works for the Cross City. Thank you for uploading :)
Glad you enjoyed it!

What was the 'oldest DMU On BR' on the 20th March 1992? Presumably a Departmental 1st Gen DMU?
@@elljones6159 He refers to 1956, so it has to be a 1st Gen one....
No Ashchurch station either.

Wonder what they driving
Every time he say anything with 69 in it I'm like Whey! I know childish
Bridge 69 "Whey" mile post 69 "Whey"

Charfield ground frame? Don't think so......
LMAO you can hear him ask where are we and what is that line. For a training video no wonders their were accidents and crashes
I think he’s under supervision of a driver instructor.
