    Hi, I am 60, and even though I have lived in USA since 2003, I still speak English with many difficulties, grammatically incorrect and can not speak fluently. I do not think in English, so that after every 3 words I have to stop and think how to express myself . Unfortunately my husband and I usually speak our native language. I am piano teacher so I mostly do not have opportunity to speak with adults but with young children for few hours only. I study English grammar all the time, but since I do not communicate, I forget easily what I learned hard. I do not read much, but try to listen your videos and other, different topics videos as well. I realize recently, if I repeat after I heard, it helps me to speak more fluently and refresh words which I use very rear. I found that it is the best way for me to improve my spoken English. What do you think about this and what would you recommend for me to do, how to improve my spoken English, think in English and motivate me and my husband to speak in English all the time, which books to read, videos to watch... Thank you for your time to answer my questions and help me

      I learned English at school, but improved my skills by watching English movies. I recommend you to watch movies that you like and where you might already know the content. This makes it easier to understand.
      The same applies to books. You have to like them, otherwise you don't want to read them. The writing style should be simple. Maybe books for children or young people (for example Harry Potter)?

    I like Adam's lesson because I feel relatively less difficult to understand his lesson than lessons from other teachers. Today I learned 10 useful political idioms. Though it's difficult to use them in real speaking, I think I understand them and I believe I can remember them later when I find them in reading because I took the quiz and luckily I got 10 out of 10. If I watch this lesson more than twice, I believe I can get those idioms for a longer time. And I've always thought that concentration is more difficult than anything else. If I can concentrate more while watching the lesson, I guess my English will improve more quickly.

    Thank you for a really topical video! There is a moment I still would like to clarify. "Carrot and stick" is not only about stimulus, it's also about punishment, right? Like knot and treat? You did mention the punishment (the stick), but I used to think that this phrase means a carrot attached to a stick, only luring a donkey, not hitting it :)

    I would highly appreciate if you prepare a new lesson on for, and to preposition.
    I watched a lesson prepared by Emma the Aussie young Lady fro mmmEnglish.
    Your lesson is diffrenty done. Both lessons are good, more than good. What do I ask for? If you could aggregate two approaches? Tell me how your examples can be expressed by Emma's criteria? [And vice a verso.]
    In other words make your examples explained in more detail. Hope you will come to rescue. Thanks in advance.
    Consider my humble request.

    Dear teacher, Could you please explain the difference between "He is doing it tonight" and "He will be doing it tonight" ?

    • @mikebruh4325
      @mikebruh4325 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see there is none of answers. So, I guess that your question is related are you planning or you just made sudden decision. I mean we can use “will” when we have made decision just at the moment. But “he is doing” construction is related to the schedule or plan and it is not just an intention or a split-second decision.
      So, when you say “he is doing it tonight” you are telling some plan what was made some time ago, this decision was made in the past. On other hand you have to use “he will be doing it tonight” because he probably decided to do it at the last moment.
      * For example:
      If someone would invite me to the today’s party, I can say:
      - Ok, I will bring some beer and crisps.
      As you can see I had not been having such an intention a few moments before but at the moment of speech I had decided to accept the invitation.
      * I/you/he/she etc. + am/is/are + ing example:
      Imagine the situation when you are preparing for your friend’s birthday party and you are determined to present him some gift what you have already bought. You can say:
      - I am going to present my friend a new car / laptop / (whatever you want) next week/month/on Monday/ at 12 pm / (you can use any of future time points).
      That is the case when you have already scheduled your activities in the past and these actions are included in your plan of activities on the next week.
      P.S. Sorry for my written English I’m still studying it yet.
