      Are you a fan of Nintendo too? I see you have feature Pokémon in your videos, but you also included characters from other franchises of Nintendo like Mario. You featured a character called F.L.U.D.D (Flash Liquid Ultra Dousing Device), who made his debut in Super Mario Sunshine on the Nintendo GameCube as Mario’s sidekick: his water-spraying gadget. I liked playing Nintendo franchises!

    6 months ago, I was at a fluorescent party. I was dancing in the wrong place at the wrong time, and I was stabbed in the eye by a glow stick someone was waving around. This resulted in a 1cm corneal abrasion, which was every bit as painful as it sounds. I showed up at the hospital, right eye tearing profusely, vision in that eye blurry, and in agony. In the 3 hour wait to be seen by the doctor, I wondered how many weeks or months this would take to heal.
    This injury occurred at 2am in the morning. By the evening, so about 18 hours later, the pain had already stopped and my vision was almost back to normal. The next day, I had almost zero pain and my vision was almost normal in that eye. Absolutely no trace of the injury 36 hours later. It's AMAZING how quick the cornea heals. Even a cut of that size would've taken days to heal. The cornea is truly a remarkable tissue. The most sensitive and densely innervated of any tissue, and also the fastest to heal, and paramount for our survival. No tissue like it.

      I broke my arms in June. My right arm was a nice, clean fracture, no dislocation, and it was fine in August. Left arm was a nasty open fracture; it has healed but required surgery, and the shoulder isn't quite all there yet, possibly because of the hardware in my arm. Even if they do open it up to remove it again, it'll still recover faster than a sprain would've..
      In conclusion, any injury hard to recommend, 0/10, hard skip.

      There are peptides called BPC157 and TB500 that can speed up recovery; they're quite commonly used by bodybuilders, and probably drug-tested athletes too but you'll only ever hear about the ones who are caught since they're banned by WADA (for God knows what reason since they're not anabolic). Couple these with collagen peptides and a GH secretagogue like MK-677 and you'll heal much quicker. Sadly there doesn't seem to be much interest by the medical community in researching these as approved therapeutics.

      Broke my arms 3 times, and sprainked my anke once. I'll take 3 broken bones over a sprained ankle any time of the decade. It legit took me like half a year to be able to do physical work (not run, mind you. but be able to lift stuff that didn't weight much), and probably a year to be pretty close to "normal" with the occasional slight pain every now and then when overworked.

  • @escha_b

    I’ve never broken a bone- most likely due to my genetic connective tissue disorder. Instead of breaking, everything around that bone stretches or tears instead. So I lost count of how many bad sprains I had by the time I was like 7. I was always told I was so lucky when it turned out to be “just a bad sprain” and not broken. This video is very validating.

    i literally sprained my ankle ligament and I was in so much pain. The doctor was like "it's not that big of a deal and I should probably just go rest at home" but my parents insisted to at least do something. I couldn't walk for a couple of days but then the doctor kept on assuring my parents that I could walk on a boot. It was so painful and weird to walk on a boot at first then I got a bit better. The doctor then told me to remove the boot and walk normally. Everything was fine until I realized that I couldn't turn my ankle right or left. I also couldn't run or jump. We went to a different doctor which told us that I had a serious injury that had been wrongly treated and this made the injury even worse. I was never meant to walk on the boot... To this day it hurts sometimes while playing sports but I'm still under treatment to help my ankle. By the way, this happened back on November 3 and because of the first doctor, I'm still trying to treat my ankle... I could've avoided all this if I didnt go to the first doctor.

    was told by my gp that it was 'probably a sprain" even though I couldn't walk. ran around for two months until I tore my meniscus as well. ended up getting reconstructive surgery and went through the 1 year recovery and rehab process.
    a few months past the 1 year minimum, I start sports again, trip on another player and tear my acl and meniscus AGAIN. had another knee surgery, had to have two surgeons and the surgery still took nearly twice as long due to how screwed up my knee was. i now have 4 decently sized scars scattered around my knee, and another three dots for 'keyholes'. thank goodness for insurance
    COMPLETELY BANNED FROM SPORTS AT 17. I mean, I could technically do sports, but now the risk of me tearing something is even higher. and I never want to go through the pain of surgery and not being able to walk for two months again. even worse than the physical pain and mental dullness from painkillers, just having that freedom of walking taken away from you is just a different kind of mental pain, to be honest.
    I've never broken any bones myself (yet) but from what I've seen? the damage seems a lot less permanent/expensive to fix :')

      Yeah. The “bone marrow stimulation” approach to cartilage repair surgery is… literally as crude as drilling a hole on the nearby bone so blood floods it. It can also happen naturally when the cartilage gets thin enough to rub up the bone. Regardless, this quick-fix new fibrocartilage is not as good as the original hydraline one and will break more often :(

    Huh, that's good to know! And I guess makes sense if my own lived experience. I've broken a bone twice in my life-- the same bone, in very nearly the same location, about 15-20y apart. My childhood broken bone was a bit irritating with the cast, and I was calm enough about it that the school nurse didn't believe me at first. For those years, the only difference between arms was a very minor range of motion deficit in the healed broken arm.
    The second time, I fell not from standing up but 10ft up a rock climbing wall. The radial head broke off and rotated 90° inside my arm (no skin broken), and probably affected quite a bit of soft tissue in doing that. The surgery required to put it back in place def affected a lot, too. Now, even after physical therapy, that arm is permanently affected-- range of motion and strength, both in major ways. As far as I can tell, the bone itself is back to normal, but those ligaments, or tendons, or... I'm not exactly sure what all was affected-- they're as healed as they're every going to be, as far as I know.

      Maybe my ortho was useless with that information, I snapped a 1-2” section out of my collar bone, my pcp ignored me for 2 weeks before getting me to a ortho after my pain pills ran out. He said I should have had pins but too late then to do it..
      Anyways it took me over 6 months of healing before I could put regular weight onto it, and over a year before I started lifting weights. Still hurts to directly touch and it’s been 3 years. I’m guessing I tore ligaments or something of the such when it happened.
      Everyone said bones were quick, 6 weeks.. not even close. Also like you I didn’t show much pain when went to urgent care so they also ignored me for 2 hours.
      Also a tip for anyone that breaks a bone, absolutely do not go to urgent care, go to a hospital only. Should have sued for malpractice in my case was that bad of treatment

    • @floramew
      @floramew 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yikes, that's awful, I'm so sorry to hear it.
      I'll second emergency room at a hospital for broken bone. My arm was visibly a bit weird maybe, but initial check by ER docs didn't even think it was broken. And I had to fight insurance too, bc my primary care wanted to schedule an appt a month out to approve the emergency surgery necessary that ER wanted done the next day or so...
      So yeah, agreed with above, to anyone who reads this: urgent care is not for broken bones or anything that might remotely need surgery. Go to the ER. And get someone to drive you there if you're not currently getting worse/ need EMT support, US Healthcare WILL bill you for an ambulance trip.

    SO TRUE!!!! I had a bad ankle sprain when I tripped running down stairs in College. I told the doctor "at least it isn't broken" and he told me it would have been better if I had broken it as a break would have healed better and faster. Still to this day (40 years after the injury) that ankle is "loose" and it can easily fold over and sprain again.

  • @JessieJussMessy

    When my foot shattered in 10 places, I was still able to walk a year later (after 2 surgeries with metal in my foot and an external fixator to help it grow properly). Sprained my rotator cuff over a decade ago, and to this day I still cannot lift that arm above my head.
    I've broken many other bones, but none were my spine, thankfully, so I haven't lost my range of motion or range of applicable force from any of those incidents. Bones can, and usually do, repair themselves pretty quickly. The damage to tendons and ligaments, however, is essentially permanent. Even if a snapped or torn tendon were reconnected, unlike bones, they will never be as strong as they once were. Bones, on the other hand, can often become stronger than they were before.
    So, yes, I'd rather break a bone over spraining a ligament ANY DAY.

I will say this tho, it was still really difficult to open it as any direct light made me scream with pain so i had to wear an eye patch. Wish the Irish dance world understood this. We’re often told to take time to rest and fully heal when we break a bone but to push through the pain and get back up when there’s a sprain without letting it heal properly. I sprained my foot when I was a junior in high school, and I still have a ton of pain and flare ups now as I’m about halfway through college because of that awful mindset. Something about the stigma of it being “just a sprain” makes it seem less serious than a broken bone

      People should just refuse to strain the leg if the sprain is bad, and I certainly would. When I sprained my ankle for real I'm sure I would rather die than get up and run on my injured leg. But in my case my ankle swelled to double its normal size and I couldn't walk for weeks, and was not back to normal for probably at least half a year, not necessarily every sprain is that bad. I think you know instinctively when an injury is very bad versus just minor.
      But that practice needs to change and people there need to be informed it messes up your healing. Some people are easily manipulated, and they need extra protection from things like that. Maybe you could help people there by just informing them how important that healing process is.

    I have both broken a bone and torn a ligament, and I can wholeheartedly say that damaging a ligament was MUCH worse.
    I broke my wrist on a trampoline. I landed on my wrist weirdly, which resulted in me partially crushing my lunate if I remember correctly. Of course, it hurt terribly, but that's what you would expect. I had my cast made water safe, so I could shower and swim perfectly fine. I could live my life almost normally in the 6 weeks I had my cast on.
    On the other hand, or foot I might say (hahaha verrry funnnnny) tearing a ligament in my foot (I don't remember which one) was both significantly more painful and has left me with lasting effects over 4 years after that prevent me from exercising like a normal person and I have to do special stretches to help repair it. Hopefully within the next couple years will it mend fully
    This video doesn't outright say what is worse, so take it from someone who has experienced both extremes that ligament injuries are MUCH. MUCH. WORSE.

    I can say from my experience, a grade 2 sprain (which is not a complete tear) is miles worse than a broken bone. Also there may be factors in the makeup of your body that prevent such an injury from healing. Break a bone.

    This one video made me realize that I've never learned a lot of biology in school, because the learning materials were of a lousy quality. This short video made more sense, and taught me more about the anatomy, than a whole semester of biology in elementary... Awesome job, kudos to the animators!

    Can ligaments heal incorrectly? What does physical therapy do for the healing process?

    • @MasterTaiki
      @MasterTaiki 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its to gain strength back and it promotes bloodflow. You rest when it hurts. When it doesn't hurt as much you exercise with methods like a bicycle machine and then isometric and eccentric exercises with high reps. But not to the point of pain.

    I had an injury from soccer at my knee, tearing or spraining a few ligaments and destroying part of the cartilage under the kneecap and making my life total hell. I was on crutches for 2 months, physical therapy for another 3 months, and I still could not run until a full 7 months. It's now been 13 months since the initial injury, and I still don't feel at my best. Don't get knee injuries guys.

    Wait so, could one theoretically inject nutrients and such right next to the ACL in order to help it help faster/at all??? I imagine even low doses over the course of several weeks could help substantially, but I've never heard about treatment for such a thing :x

    • @DanielSt444
      @DanielSt444 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are treatments like PRP but so far their effectiveness hasn't been all that well proven.

    • @bramvanduijn8086
      @bramvanduijn8086 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Healing doesn't just take added nutrients, it als requires that the waste products flush away. It is more complicated than that, but basically what you need is a flow of some kind of carrier fluid full of nutrients and empty of trash that can drop off nutrients and pick up the trash. The problem with injections is twofold: They damage tissue, causing more trash, and they add the risk of infection.
      If I had to come up with a new treatment I would say: Bloodthinners. But those come with massive risks of their own. I'll let actual specialists do the dangerous work of figuring out better treatments.

    It kind of depends on the break. I shattered my ankle over 15 years ago and it still hurts. If you need rods and screws to reassemble bones, they'll never play nice together.
