    Reflectix Radiant Barrier VS Cardboard - Real World TEST - You will be surprised.
    This is the test I did in my garage few days ago.
    I was comparing heat blocking properties of Reflectix Radiant Barrier against regular Card Board.
    Turns out that 3-4 layers of cardboard do the same job as Radiant barrier.
    4 layers of cardboard block heat better then this Reflectix foil.
    Video recorded with GoPro Hero 7 Black.

    If you read the instructions on your infrared thermometer it tells you it doesn’t work correctly On reflective surfaces. All you are seeing is the infrared reflection
    but if you painted them all the same colour it should work.

    Thnx! I live on the longest shopping street in the Netherlands, with over 450 small shops and restaurants. But most importantly, with about 8 bike stores that put out multiple huge cardboard boxes on the sidewalk each week! I think I could honestly collect enough cardboard to insulate my entire house just within a few weeks 🤣

    Fyi infrared thermometers don't work on reflective surfaces...

      This is correct, that's why you got the ambient temperature when measuring the reflectix, but it was very hot to the touch.

    You saved me tons of money my friend. Thanks for the test. This has the potential to disrupt the over-priced and harmful insulation factories.

      From my experience. cardboard works as good in insulating as "special foil barrier"

    Even though the radiant barrier has a similar temp to the cardboard, the metal has a higher thermal conductivity which means heat will transfer to your hand faster thus making it feel more hot.

    You cannot use that thermometer on a reflective surface.

  • @brettmansfield3136
    @brettmansfield3136 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That's interesting. I wonder what cardboard would do if it had an air gap of its own, like the reflectix did

    • @MaciejPiotrowski
      @MaciejPiotrowski  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Probably even more. Remember that cardboard box I used has air cells in between both layers. This is what stops the heat. Since I've added that cardboard on my entire door temperature in garage dropped extra 5 deg F. Inside garage door is not hot any more. It is just warm. I should have done it many years ago.

    • @brettmansfield3136
      @brettmansfield3136 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MaciejPiotrowski Interesting. And the reason I mentioned the air gap is because at least one of the reasonings behind the air gap on the reflectix is to prevent the conduction of heat from another object. For example reflectix (or cardboard) will have a different temperature if it is laying on a hot frying pan, or hovering above it with a little air gap.

    So the RADIANT is absorbing the heat oppose to reflecting,is this why its hot to the touch?

    Hi, what difference did it make in winter ? Did you try it with the foam, cardboard and the foil blanket all together?

    • @MaciejPiotrowski
      @MaciejPiotrowski  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm in Florida so the biggest difference I feel is in the summer with direct west sun heating that garage door to the point you can't touch it. Cardboard insulated that better than foam, from my experience and my garage is not cold but about 5 deg cooler.

  • @colty7764
    @colty7764 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat. Don't let it touch hot surfaces or it will quickly transfer that heat.

  • @josephdupont

    why would you not put reflective material on the outside of the garage door.

    • @MaciejPiotrowski

      I did but the purpose of this video was to see if cardboard would do the same job as radiant barier. On some panels I have foam board with reflective part and on some just cardboard and cardboard work as good as radiant barier.

    As many others said, and i say it so others can read since you don´t care. You CanNOT use infra/heatcameras or whatnot on reflective surfaces or windows

  • @nonyabusiness9747
    @nonyabusiness9747 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not accurate because the cardboard only covers a small area and the foam covers the entire panel.
