    About Groot Constantia:
If you haven’t heard about Groot Constantia, then it is my pleasure to introduce you to South Africa’s oldest winery. I would be doing a disservice if I didn’t give some of the history about this estate. In 1679 Simon van der Stel was appointed by the Dutch East India Company to govern the Cape of Good Hope. After years of loyal service, he requested land from the Company. He periodically sent out riders to collect soil samples and in 1685 he found a potential wine-growing area that had magnificent scenery situated behind Table Mountain. Over the years the wines produced on the estate caught the attention of influential people across the globe - clearly due to its impressive quality. Global aristocracy made sure that they had enough stock of this acclaimed and precious product. The estate was named "Constantia" after the Latin word for constancy or steadfastness. These attributes he valued greatly and today the winemaker, Boela Gerber and staff follow in his footsteps to uphold his enduring legacy of perfection at Groot Constantia.

Thanks Jeff for this video! Really refreshing to see one where you actually join the workers over longer period of time, not just the other types of documentaries where people just speak to the experts. Great to see the people happy working there and doing it the old way. I appreciate when you can see the actual pieces, instruments or parts of the plants the expert was describing for me to get a better idea than just hearing them speaking, which I missed little bit in the first part of this video. In the whisky one it was shown wonderfully. My plan is to do a course on wine tasting one day.

I have a few questions please.
    1. Hygiene how do you ensure you kill bad bacteria?
    2. Is it possible to make non alcoholic wine?
    3. Is there a limit to how many bottles you produce a year or you can do as much as there is demand?
    4. This is not sparkling wine right if not how do you make it sparkle?
    5. Is there an expiration date for wine?
    6. How do you sell it?
    Thanks

Supergecko8 thanks for your comment and glad to hear Zuma is out as president. My goal was not only to show how wine is made in SA but to show that great companies like Groot Constantia have a social and economical responsibility to the people of SA. They understand that 30 percent of the nation is unemployed and I worked along side these workers and they were thankful, happy and more importantly grateful.

Berend Emanuel thanks and glad you like the video. I don’t see the government touching this estate that brings in over 600,000 tourists a year. I also do not believe in expropriation without compensation. I think the understanding is in how land owning has been documented and passed on by people/tribes. While traveling I know some people would say I own this parcel to this parcel from this point to that point. But to what proof? Word of mouth passed on from generation to generation? There will be friction. It’s unfortunate and I wasn’t there long enough to completely talk intelligently about this issue. -Jeff

Berend Emanuel great insight, thanks for sharing and I hate to see what happens when you put an individual into a situation that he must react on based on what he solely believes in and protecting his heirloom. Each person handles it differently. Again empathy goes out to the situation at hand. -Jeff

Explain to me the definition of xenophobia when black South Africans refuse the influx of illegal foreigners, aliens, fugitives and criminals entering South Africa undetected and undocumented causing disunity and regress in our lives. Actually whites benefits from lawlessness and illegal foreigners through unionized illegal cheap labour offered by foreigners.
Africa is not South Africa burden to carry. Where is patriotism in South Africa People? Ubuntu is not a policy to run a country. Botswana has better boarder policy, social order and a responsible leadership but it's not accused of xhenophobia. How many illegal foreigners are manipulating our disunity and weaknesses to benefit in our exclusion in our own country. How many foreigners are working in South Africa while we have high unemployment criss. The problem is the black bourgeoisie mentality thinking they have arrived

Beer, Wine and Spirits well I dont know enough about you Jeff, to make any assumptions. But as you work with Valuetainment I assume you are a capitalist.
As a capitalist, what do you think about government intervention in private property rights? What do you think about the unbelievable amount of government intervention and regulation in private industry?
I can understand that you may be just a good and wine feature on this great channel, and that's great.
But, when such a large and pro markets channel goes to a country which is, in all likelihood, at the tipping point of becoming the next big economic disaster, I think it is more than reasonable to ask for some in depth thoughts and discussions.
I think it would be a huge oversight if Valuetainment goes to South Africa, and all that was reported back was sunshine and roses. There is a serious threat to capitalism in South Africa and I would love to hear it addressed.

Precisely how can you put "the demographic" of Valuetainment in alcoholic drink categories? I'm kind of looking at it the same way as the Beer & Business. But now, instead of an interview, you actually get to see the processes of different businesses. And yeah, they happen to be more focussed on alcohol.

    • @carlitosvodka
      @carlitosvodka 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for the reply Jeff, I am probably an outlier here ~ I really dont know if most people would agree with me that wine is very far from business. Watching a wine process at scale Is definitely fun, we used to make wine out of almost everything back in college.
I saw a few practical things from this content specifically that I can use in life or business and this bothered me enough for me to comment.
Here are some things that you can use if you wanted to go for wine - It would benefit is the content about wine is novel, presented a different way or is beneficial. I've seen this content on wine on different channels.
If you wanted to specialize in wine ~ here are things that would be important: the grape variety selection process, soil components, crop protection, harvesting techniques, storage techniques, cleanliness techniques, etc.. At Macro an angle you can share probably is how they do it at scale or how they do it by numbers or the books from wines, or how much the demand is out there still for people who want to enter. If
Most of these things that people watch here would probably be relevant to business.
