You have done a great job ❤
Hope you are involved in more reviews
Thanks
Thanks Sue for the detailed review giving great insight into the Lexus RZ 450e interior with quality high end styling touches.
Sue did a great job with this, keen for more of her being involved with these videos!
Thanks
Note: It is Toyota/Lexas who knows how to design and build cars with precision and quality. It is not a Tesla. Also, vegan leather is another way to say plastic seats (polyurethane now instead of the old vinyl).
Nice job Sue. I like the quick hit summary upfront of the video, followed by the more in-depth tour to support your opinion.
If there one clear area Tesla still has room to improve it is interior, as in premium interiors. They have made improvements and because Tesla generally changes very little inside a Tesla model as you go up the trim levels, they have a challenge to offer premium interiors even if something is not ultra high priced. It is faster and more cost effective to have the same interior on all levels of model, but Tesla models breaking $70,000 really need to have that premium feel interior. Spending six figures on a vehicle and feeling like you have same level of luxury feel from vehicles half the price is disappointing. Tesla has great tech, great performance, and nice interiors. It should be great be interiors.
Toyota might be doing fine on their interiors, but the EV tech is still falling short in many areas. I know there are buyers out there who just buy another Toyota because of past experience.
For me, I went from Toyota to Tesla. I gave the Toyota EVs a look, but the reviews were not great and then major recalls already. I know some industry watcher companies are saying Toyota and Honda are the most common previous brands owned by people buying a new Tesla, but I do think that is due more to how many Toyota and Honda vehicles sold. With that said, both Toyota and Honda are behind in their game. If the Model 3 refresh coming soon has a major upgrade in interior premium feel, let alone better tech than what is there now, I see Tesla just taking far more from Toyota's owner base than they have already.
Thanks Sue for another great interior review. You really catch everything that matters to me!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Sue. Your presentation was very concise and easy to follow.
You are so welcome!
Should point out that the RZ 450e starts around $59K for the Premium edition and near $66K for the Luxury trim - both of which do not qualify for the Federal EV tax credit. Lexus is going to have to do some serious discounting to get these competitive given the poor range. Thanks for the review!
The price tag made me nearly spill my coffee all over. 😂😂😂
Great job highlighting the positive interior which came from their ice experience. It would be a great second vehicle for city driving but the range and slow charging just doesn't fit the price tag for a 2023 EV. Hopefully Toyota's next gen is better on that. I always have and still do admire Toyota/Lexus ice and hybrid reliability but I'll wait a few years before buying one of their BEVs. They will get there I think.
Thank you for such a thorough review Sue.
Thanks Sue. It is good to see a well manufactured interior. It would be interesting to learn more about the driver and infotainment controls. I find driving my old Tacoma oddly refreshing because all functions are on easily reachable controls which don’t require looking. The only LCD is the frequency read-out for the radio, and that seldom requires looking at. The other trend which bugs me is cramming a dozen little buttons and paddles, maybe even a scroll wheel, on the steering wheel.
Super review! Thanks Sue!
Thanks for watching!

looks like your typical button filled, cluttered interior that was great 20 years ago, boomers will love it. Today it is all about a clean flowing organic interior with no vents, no buttons etc and lots of storage.
Hey… don’t pick on boomers… can’t stand all the gadgets, knobs and what not going on in there… I will take my 2015 model S with its clean sleek interior and its 230 mile range on a 8 1/2 year old battery….
5:45 lol the door cards are actually a cinema screens 📽🎞
Love the classy look of that soft, vegan interior!
That's just plastic.
It will not age well
This car will be very "classy", because of it low production numbers.
over 20 years I owned 5. All great, with outstanding reliability, I bought my model 3 SR+ in 2021 and will never look 👀 back. Without exception every
detail described in the Lexus, is better in the Tesla. Profound simplicity wins out over gongs and whistles.
Sometimes Lexus misses the mark. I recall driving a 2002 300RX (hope that’s the correct name) owned by my parents. The center stack HVAC/infotainment system was a mess with functions illogically divided between physical controls and LCD display, mixed together on screens that had to be clicked through. The on-board GPS was pathetic, lacking common landmarks. I asked the Lexus dealer about map updates which were a on a DVD under the seat, and the dealer said, “don’t bother.” I drove the RX to a family reunion and wound up using my $100 Garmin for routing because the RX couldn’t find the destination address.
I have to commend Lexus on the fit and finish of the RX, it was incredibly well manufactured. Just the user interface was pretty bad. I recently rode with a friend in his Toyota Highlander, brother of the RX, and Toyota seems to have done a very nice job with Apple Car Play, though getting it set up initially was laborious.
The M3 interior is boring.
Sue does a great job, but Carl is my favorite. Either way, keep em coming.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Sue is my favorite presenter to listen to though it's a bit of a toss-up between her and Sandy's great stories. She just got that smooth confidence, competence, and calm. I'm looking forward to GM's electric offerings. I hope GM can get along better with Munro and hire them for some consulting.
No doubt a great car for the elderly who don't drive too much. Imagine, 200 miles range. Wow!
Don’t say vegan. Say vinyl. Made from petroleum.
If no animal products were used, that is Vegan 💁🏻♂️
@@srevillejJust no animals from this millennium were used… 😊
@@sreville like vegan concrete?
Yep, the constructor make us buy plastic and get to tell you it's premium.
@@wtmayhew solid point, sir
If you like sub200 mile range, you’ll love the elegant interior while sitting at multiple charging stations!
The RZ was on my list when I was looking at electric cars. The shorter range & longer charging times knocked it off
You'd be better off with pretty much any other electric vehicle out there.
@@teachingthecode4651 The RZ is a great BEV. For 2017. Unfortunately for Lexus/Toyota they are 2 or 3 design & manufacturing cycles behind the competition.
@@briansmithwinsI ‘m trying to figure out the RZ and it’s Toyota brother. Both are fairly plush cars, and that extra weight helps kill range. The RZ is a bit of a statement car which will look nice tooling around town or parked at a country club. One would expect the top of both luxury and performance from Lexus, but the RZ’s battery capacity and charge rate limit it for in-town use. Toyota must have done focus groups who like the idea of the RZ or Toyota wouldn’t be manufacturing it. I wonder who those prospective owners are?
@@wtmayhew Toyota/Lexus/Subaru is stuck with the electric platform they have, not the one that would make them actually competitive. I'm thinking the target audience for the lexus is retired people with lots of money that still want to drive, but never take road trips and are going to plug in a home everyday.
Toyota must think their customers are “suckers”.
Since the FDA just approved Lab Grown Chicken for consumption in the USA, can perfect lab grow cow hide material be grown for cow cell to make cow hides to create real leather that doesn’t kill cows? Maybe other hides can be produced such as kill free pig skins to make footballs too?
Remember lithium ION batteries like the 20-80% range for the most part for battery longevity. Lithium IRON(LFP) love 0-100% charge.(more for your money) many manufacturers switching over to LFP batteries. If this was a LFP battery 200 miles would be fine otherwise you need at least 300 miles, imo. If your commute involves freeways, high temperatures with lots of HVAC use, you need 300 miles especially if lithium ION 20-80% range
Why are all the surfaces where you put your hands and arms light colored? Isn’t that going to get dirty really fast?
Let’s not promote the use of the marketing phrase, “vegan-leather”. It’s vinyl.
13:49 It would be nice to have a bag container to hold the cable. Look very messy.
Folks, find someone who touches you the way this woman touches the car's interior.
I saw one at a recent event and wondered, how many Alcantara cows they had to slaughter for its interior.
This is the interior the BZ4X should have...
No
I have bought only Toyotas. I hope they survive the transition to BEV.
Why did they make the arm rest white? It's going to get filthy very quickly.
Since it's not leather it should be easy to clean, but putting stitching where your arm rubs is going to make the stiching look dirty quickly and very difficult to clean. Fail!
No one is killing cows to make seat covers.
And I still stand by my previous statement that the nose of this car is ugly.
leather is a by product of the food industry by the way cows are vegan
When we say vegan are we really talking a vegetable based product such as soy been/corn or a petroleum based product?
Best!
isn't a cow vegan ?
@@shanewalker9564 Technically they're vegans/herbivores but...
On another note they've already started marketing lab cultured chicken meat for "Gourmet" restaurants so when will we start seeing lab cultured/grown leather/hide? Rather have a laboratory grown leather seat cover or shoe than a laboratory grown white meat chicken dinner.
Best!
I have vinyl mixed with
Leather in my Porsche. I can not tell the difference.
As an 23’ Lexus NX350H owner, I can tell she’s new to Lexus…
They need to get over the hybrid thing and produce good EVs. Hybrid lifespan is short.

I want real environmentally friendly *leather* not toxic plastic.
Assuming this is a genuine concern and not politically motivated, then it raises 2 interesting questions.
The first is that given the methane produced and resources required to produce leather, is it more environmentally friendly than artificial material? (Totally open question - I have no idea and haven't seen any research related to this).
The second question is whether alacantra is toxic. I very much doubt it as if so the EPA and other authorities would step in and restrict or ban its use as car seat material. Are there scientific, peer reviewed studies linking car seats to the emission of toxins?
I want real leather
@@timepstein274 You expect the EPA to protect you??? Not until YOU demand specific action from them first! Our institutions are so corrupt it's shameful, scary. Our environment is loaded with toxins, better count on yourself to mitigate it.
Methane is a non issue, completely fabricated BS propaganda from Establishment Media Mafia that has never ever given a flying F about science or reality in general. It only lasts about 15 yrs in the atmosphere, that's like a second in geologic time, geology being the origin of climate science. Then it becomes plant fertilizer.
Until very recently the USA had the "American Serengeti" with several million buffalo 'blackening the landscape' until geocoding the Natives nearly made them extinct. That's comparable to current cattle numbers. Avoiding feeding them grain, corn mainly, also has significant benefits across the board.
While "factory farms" and cheap beef *are a problem,* many ranchers *improve the landscape* via keeping herbivores moving over wide areas. The simplistic notion that *BEEF IS BAD* is typical of the irrational, ill-informed Leftists. (yes the Right has it's analogs too) Frankly, veganism is unhealthy.
Properly managed livestock is not only beneficial to the land but healthy to consume and if a modest premium was had for byproducts like leather--that's a good thing to promote responsible production and land management.
Tesla for one, claims to responsibly source such as cobalt, leather can be even more responsibly purchased.
@@timepstein274 I appreciate your reasoned if not entirely realistic response.
Apparently it's news to most that herds of large herbivores can be as integral, essential to many landscapes as anything else. Everything from antelope to elephants are crucial to African ecology, for example.
Original comment was intended to be a bit provocative, leather can have conditioners not suitable to health either, but they need not. I don't know particulars of plastics used in seat covers but there seem to be no innocuous plastics, some much worse than others, soft ones tend to be on worse end of spectrum.
No animal is killed so that it’s hide can be used for leather. Cattle are farmed to produce meat. The leather is a
bi product of the meat industry.
Will Tesla step up their finishes or will every other car company catch up on technology, hardware, software, and deleting dealer networks? One seems easier. At least legacy figured out a way to match charging quality...
I hate the glass roof with no cover
Id save $20k and go with the Subaru Touring version.
Vegan ?
I want real leather and I do not care about those who never had learned that leather is part of the life since the stone age to survive. Cows were raised and hunted for getting meat and leather at least here. Should someone throw the leather into the garbage can or use it for something else?
I stopped the video at this point and will not continue cause it is a ridiculous discussion that also might end up in selling leather that is pure plastic and burns wunderfully
bye
Exactly
*tunes up tiny violin*
@@sreville are you performing for your boyfriend?
I pretty much don’t like the term, “vegan,” to describe a car seat. It’s fine for describing my salad at lunch. Just call it, “nice vinyl.” There’s nothing wrong with synthetic materials in car seats; they’ve been commonplace since at least the 1950s.
The synthetic leather wears a lot better and should never crack or stain. With a good design, the feel is as good if not better than leather. I do like the leather scent - but that can be added to any car. Oddly, most Japanese cars with leather don't have a leather scent. Anyway, given a choice, I'm about 60% in favor of synthetic, but happy with leather too.
Yes, excellent interior execution. But with its high price, sub-par range, polarizing exterior, this Lexus RZ 450e is simply not up to contemporary competitive standards.
we used to have a vegan horse. the illuminated door hides a multitude of faults and marks. the rear large most likely as a chauffeured car. 200 miles ?
That's a great looking Horse Susan! Is it yours?
When’s Carl coming back? Nothing against Sue of course
Another dash item that needs a matte finish is the glass surface of the car touchscreen as well as laptop computers! Compare the 1999 Apple PowerBook G3 Screen matte surface to today’s stupid glossy finished Displays and you will understand what I’m talking about!
Eh, not impressed. Oooo light projection
I sort of like it - at least it is something new! I do think other car makers have done a much better job with accent lighting. If Lexus used film (not metal) for the projection slide, it lasts about 3-4 years before fading out. Hopefully Lexus used a metal slide.
@@tesla_tapSomething new! Pink interior? Octagon shape wheels? Yeah!
Manufacturers are rebanding cheap craptastic vinyl as "Vegan" to help their bottom line. It's a cheap, shoddy marketing ploy. Why in Gods name are you helping them? The fact they are now doing this in a 60k "Luxury" vehicle is just insulting.
I agree- "Luxury"= leather and REAL wood interiors.
@harriettanthony7352 Agreed! The more burr walnut the better!
wow, this interior looks almost identical to my wife's KIA Sorento PHEV Prestige - sweet, and probably not as much money, of course.
With bigger battery pack this would work but Toyota want this to fail
Vegan leather? Plastics in other words. You will own nothing and eat bugz and you will be happy! ; WEF Schwab vegan leather.
Did you know that Schwab means cockroach in Slavic languages 😂
@@WANDERER0070No, it does not. Fake news.
Very nice review of the interior Sue. Unfortunately the RZ has a 71.4 KW Hour battery and can only go an unimpressive 200 miles. I assume one would charge to 80% to maximize battery life. 160 miles is laughable. Toyota is now claiming a 600 mile battery in the next year or so. Who are they kidding. I would like to understand more about the touch display in the RZ and how it functions?
I'm a dude, and let's face it: Dudes are very rough on soft touch surfaces. The first person buys a Lexus. He sells it as a Toyota because the interior is ragged...
I'm a dude. Never had this issue, as I'm cognizant enough to take care of my (and others') stuff. Simple respect, dude.
@@michaelhess4825 You probably have a job that robots can do.
7:05 disliking shiny chrome is your PERSONAL opinion. You just happen to be wrong about it. Lexus is wrong too. 😂
The Hyundai Genesis GV60 (EV5/IONIQ5), is a better car than L- RZ450e, and more REFINED.
By FAR. Insane how much Hyundai/KIA are kicking Toyota's ass in EVs.. they're even kicking the germans asses. And they're not even the top of the EV realm. Close.. but not quite.
This EV is nothing more than improved styling and interior on the bz4x. Both have short range, slow charging, weak acceleration, and no one pedal driving. This Toyota EV isn’t worthy of Sue’s in depth expertise.
Window buttons in doors could be ditched for central buttons or screen
Interior door panels look like something from the 80’s and it does look cheap…
Munro et al have become toooo nice. Getting boring. Better when y’all called a spade a spade, and ruffled feathers.
Yeah, gas and diesel is also vegan.

Dont understand why anyone wants leather/vegan leather. Its hot or its cold. Give me a durable cloth interior anyday. Wont need no stinkn cooled heated seats$$. Not techy enough? Do you need a long lasting reliable, luxurious car or do you want a rolling computer thats going to soon fail, just like all electronics with built-in planned obsolescence?
But i guess if one can afford a $70k car, you can afford to trade every 5 yrs, so it won't matter.
Hmm, my 2019 Tesla has 140,000 km on ODO and no failure. My ICE cars (1,500,000 km all together) failed from time to time: 2 clutches, turbocharger, 2 gearboxes, head gaskets blown etc. etc. Tesla for the win. No more ICE vehicles.
13:00 The back of the front seats look so cheap and bland. The look like cheap covers that don’t even fit. What happened to the decorative designs of the past?????
Cows are slaughtered for food not for leather. Substituting vegan materials does not keep cows from being slaughtered. One of the greatest use of leather is for furniture. Asia is the biggest market for leather. Avoiding the use of leather at best depresses the price of leather while saving the manufacturer money.
Talk about unintended consequences…
No amount of interior improvements over the Bz4x makes this overpriced, underwhelming BEV remotely competitive.
Wrong, light on visor is LESS reliable, more complex. Lexus did it right.
