I worked for APS years ago, and where they are now, it blows me away. Billy always used to say learn something new every day, and when you think you know it all, it's time to get out of paving asphalt. Good work and knowledge, and keep an open mind to learn. Gets you where you want to be, and my self, known Billy and his family he's built an empire and is still growing. I've been blessed knowing Billy 24 years, including his family. Big shout out to APS/ Raised On Blacktop Brand for an awesome 2023 season!!!.. much love and respect to yall!!!..

I paved for 37 seasons, 12 in my own business. You are a good man, your comments at the end of this video makes you a man of means. Mean what you say, say what you mean. For me it was always about ease of operation, making it better for the men and job quality. Also it was always about letting the people know thier worth, that we aren't unskilled labor. People just don't know what it takes to make blacktop look like that. the truck is a work of art, if only we had that as young men in the trade

That new truck is awesome, and it just spoke for itself on why it has its own place on any jobsite. The company I work with is based out of Illinois and Missouri and is significantly smaller operations than this, but we still have early 90's model international dump trucks that we use every day, and it truly is eye opening seeing these videos about how far the industry has come.

As with auto production, a lot of ideas come from backyard customizers. This is a prime example of ideas from "them that's doing". I seen the trucks in the shop tour and thought how sharp they looked. You may want to park #2 in the living room, just so you can look and say "this is our idea", I can't believe we did this" perfect example of spending a buck to make a buck. Reinvest into your company. Make it grow. A life's work your sons will be proud to carry on. Thanks for the intro to the new addition of tools you use everyday.

Awesome design! You could potentially solve the auger reach issue with a secondary auger that folds up to still keep the machine compact. Similar to a grain auger system. Then the truck could park on the road and you would have reach and maneuverability in the auger to reach the far out spots.

Only thing more interesting than watching the asphalt 'spreader' is listening to the 'all over it like a cheap suit' commentary from a man who has obviously 'been there done that' - no substitute for experience and the delivery is not half bad either. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Great comment bro, definitely well deserved! As a fellow tradesman myself, I fully agree with everything you wrote. However, it sure would've been ALOT easier/quicker to read if it just had some punctuation. Or ANY punctuation, for that matter. I'm not trying to sound like a dick here bro, but there were 9 separate sentences in that paragraph & not a single period telling people where one sentence ends, and the next one begins! Again, I'm not trying to come across as a jerk, I apologize if you took it that way...I only wanted to point it out so that it might help you somehow in the future. Take care & good luck

  • @911Dox

Looking at the open auger, there is a lot of buildup stuck under the screw and sidewalls for what little the unit has been operated. The screw better be quick and easy to pull out because it's going build up very quickly. What are you using as "degreaser" ? Is that straight diesel fuel? What is the load rating and how many cubic feet are lost than a normal box designed end-dump. With a reduced box size, won't that mean more loads being hauled and in turn, a longer day for the entire crew and plant operator(s)?

I'm with big boys now doing a little bit of everything but it screams to me to start my own business. If I ever get enough credit history and cash I really want one of these and if I have to run a truck for a couple years until I can get a skid steer and a leeboy 8000/8500 start doing stuff with a couple guys. I’m just a farmer we use that hydraulic hook up on our heads on our combines. I’ve always wondered why it doesn’t get used in the construction industry. My brother-in-law put a 50 foot on the back of a live bottom street truck that he built with a huge troth auger like you got , but it wasn’t as fancy with that remote. That’s a good idea. He had a big job where he needed to get up in something. I can’t remember what the hell it was 10 years ago. And the u trough auger came off our farm. It was basically wore out and wasn’t moving green is efficiently but it sure does move asphalt kind of doesn’t like your binders especially dense binder, but nice job I like it you should make it so you can add on extensions if you want.

This should be a requirement for dpw/municipalities for multiple reasons. Helps in in patch work which is most of their work and helps in pothole repairs along with everything you've said. Would also be good for loam after a roads been paved or after a new sidewalk along the edge. Also good for edge of road/ shoulder work. This would also be good for mulching flower beds along roads or in rotarys. Brilliant idea guys for sure would love to try it out but trying to convince a municipality to buy one and maintain it the right way would be tough.

Two things come to my mind. First of all, awesome idea! I’m not a paver, but I appreciate innovation.
The “cap” on the hydraulic coupler. The part that stores in the cab when using the auger? Tether that to the coupler. One day somebody will be in a hurry and set that on a fender. Next thing you know it’s bouncing down the highway.
Other thing. Watching you guys use that and knowing there’s a driver and an auger operator I wonder if they can be combined. You know the trucks they drive guardrail posts with? The operator in that jump seat works the stake pounder and steers/ moves the truck. Could make it stupid expensive but could make it way more productive.

You probably don’t read these but last year I watched this video as we took delivery of our new international hx620 with your normal body with asphalt apron. Since we have to order trucks a year in advance I ordered the next 620 with a trout river live bottom body and she comes in around April. Can’t wait and thank you for the vids.

Not sure if this would be beneficial but if there was two extra buttons on the remote to signal to the driver instead of having to take your hands off the control to wave them on. One button for forwards will signal the driver and another button for stop. Even if it was led lights flashing by their mirrors in the cab. This would allow the control operator to not need to focus on getting the drivers attention and can keep their hands on the control moving the auger position.

Great idea. Almost like the stop and go lights on the new milling machines. We are going to fit it with cameras but then you have the problem of the driver watching the camera when you need them looking at you!

This will revolutionize hand work. It be like having a more versatile and precise shuttle buggy with you. Can't wait to see something like this as the status quo in the industry for hand work.

Make it double fold, Ideally when folded the extsention would be behind, or under the existing auger. Look at grain wagon augers for inspiration. Would add 6 ish feet of reach. I lay asphalt in Indiana so the Live bottom isnt a thing here wish it was cause one of these would be SWEET!!!

Yup, handy thing, We have an semi trailers here in Finland with push wall, most important safety feature on those are that they are steady even on uneven surface.

Hi my name is Joe I live in Canada we have a truck called the stone slinger that has an arm on the side that sits on the passenger side almost to the level of the frame that comes out depending on how long the boxes could be 16 to 20 feet long it is on a belt, but you probably could converted it into a auger and use it for asphalt to look good nice 👍🏼
