  • The Peugeot 408 is not a car to be ignored. Should German manufacturers take note? Well Howard certainly thinks so.
He tried out one of the fabulous 408s in GT Line trim complete with the impressive plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The 1.6-litre system is available with either 180hp or 225hp, it’s wrapped up in a smart package with looks and technology to rival the best in the business.
Three trim levels are available: Allure, Allure Premium and GT. If you want the most potent hybrid version, you’ll want to opt for the GT. That’s the one Howard tested.
In this video, we take an in-depth look at all its key attributes including Peugeot’s i-Cockpit cabin design, passenger room, the impressively silent hybrid system and tons more engineering brilliance that comes as standard in this French crossover. Could it be the perfect family car you didn’t know you needed?

Peugeot have levelled up big time since 2012-2014. Their effort should be applauded. Now considered as mid premium in all Europe, and going full premium. I absolutely love that brand. Love that car. Looks so futuristic. Bold, radical design. High quality.

My 2008 is superb. Stylish. Comfortable. Quick. Economical. Well built. European made too. A win on a fronts. So much cooler than those grey or white or black BMW/Audi/Merc genetics.

its not underrated. I think the sole reason people are not going with the 408 for example is the fact that you will get only 130hp out of the 1.2 engine and currently there are no bigger engines available for the 408 besides hybrid which has again its own problems.

It was under rated but not these days since the head of design left and went to Renault. My 1.2 petrol Austral has just under 200 horsepower and I don’t have to plug it in. Fully self charging hybrid. Non of the nonsense of plugging in anywhere and yes, I get almost 600 miles per tank.
Plus we get Google maps and not Tom Tom.
I can go over 60 miles per hour on electric and the car charges itself up.
      Go and test one.

Thinking of getting it as my next car but I have a few questions from a user's point of view.
      - How're you coping with the absence of a rear wiper? Does it impact your driving during bad weather?
      - Also, my current Qashqai has a head on display. Are you able to conveniently drive and still "steal a glance" at the sat nav while driving in areas you're not familiar with?
      - Lastly, does it autobreak or give a warning signal when it notices you're at risk of hitting an obstruction or another car in front of you?
I'm so used to these features and would definitely get this 408 if it has these features.

THAT full width lump of grey "thing" (bumper?!) is one of several dislikes. There, I said it.
Oh, & what about a rear wiper for when rain spray distorts, or worse, blocks the reversing camera?! Oh, & the wheels I've seen so far are.....MERDE and IMO do nothing to compliment the overall look/appeal of the car.
Hope the Aussie Peugeot Product Manager has a better choice of wheels (& colours beyond grey, dark grey, dark blue, silver, dark silver.....) etc etc

Hi my Wife has 2018 5008 GT with 2.0 HDI an i have 2020 5008 1.2 Puretech as my company car both on EAT8 gearbox and surprisingly there is no difference in dynamics since the diesel one is 200kgs heavier. The diesel one is more calmer does not downshift at every acceleration request so all in all more for calmer ride. On contrary the 1.2 is more punchy whenever you touch the gas it goes to 3 or 4 thousand rpm and pulls with its grunry sound so its hard to believe the engine size. It has convinced me so much that I have ordered 408 with 1.2 as my next company car....should replace my 5008 in few months. And intrestingly the fuel consumption ho HDI is 7.6l/100km and 1.2 in the same mode runs 7.2l/100km

*And no whistling accompaniment? Howard... You're letting the side down.*
    However...
Quite a nice looking motor. Though still not sure about plug in hybrids _(WHY?)_ nor Peugeot's _"peer over the steering wheel to see the dials"_ idea _(Again. WHY?)._
It would probably be OK with me at 6' 1 3/4" tall. But the missus is barely 4' 11". And that's on a good day. And never in a million years, would she ever be able to get any steering wheel low enough to look over to see the dials. In fact she's so small, her passport photo' is of a blank screen 8-))...

Most buyers do not like rakish C pillar sedan .
They prefer slightly upright C pillar sedan like the Camry,Accord , 3 series even the aerodynamics is slightly less.
Fastback sedan is not buyers favourite ,many fastback design had failed to capture buyers except the less wealthy young ones .
