This song has played in my head on and off for almost 20 years. This last weekend, at the age of 54, i went backpacking for the first time. At one point, we had to walk on a cliff-side trail, about a foot wide, using cables anchored into the cliff face, carrying a 30 lb pack. I could never have imagined doing something like that. And yet I did, conquering one of my greatest fears, the fear of heights. When my feet hit the other side of that trail section, i sang the chorus of this song.
what an incredibly original, authentic, hypnotic, profound and funny too observer of life around her, and kind and idealistic weaver of life and music together...loved her ever since that Minnesota PBS show produced by D.A. Pennebaker about artists in their places in 1992...
She's magical... first time I heard her sing "Century Plant" I was mesmerized... there was such a connection. I was like "WOW!" and I turned to the the two people beside me and they said "Huh?"... I think you have to be kindred spirit with dear Victoria to get her music. I just love her music!
well then I'M one....and i wouldnt have it any other way....she is GREAT, and a real sweetheart, i got her autograph and she played 'You are loved " for me at the show.
Vic is the bomb!! I saw her live in Toronto at the Rivoli in 1988 (opening for Peter Case). It was love at first sight for me. She is an amazing singer-songwriter. The message of "Century Plant" is so inspiring! We're invited to rise above our personal pain and come out and play. Truly live life to its fullest! I love you Vic!!
Wow how cool! I saw Victoria in a small club in Manchester UK in 2001. She was amazing, i sat there in the front row with my pearl jam sweater on and she moved the mic stand and sang Crazy Mary right in front of me :) she then came and sat down and signed some stuff and had a chat. Was one of my all time favourite gigs
Just reading the comments here made dropping in worthwhile - that she makes so many ppl feel so good, express themselves so openly and in such kind hearted words brings back the moment when I was just emerging from a very dark place I won't elaborate on and I saw this HOB show broadcast back when they'd be on TV in the early 90's. How rushing out to buy a copy of Loose was such a renewing experience, like I mean all my other new musical interests just dropped away and I just had to continually listen and find more by her, and only her music would do for a while there lol - it was like an epiphany and everything felt brighter and new, just as she wishes upon the listener in her song Love - she's so truly gifted and her fans praise so similar to my own feelings that I believe she has met and embraced the love of that Holy Spirit she so often sings about. Thank God for Vic Williams :)
@114262920514679687636 ...i love her...saw her at a tiny club and bought a SECOND copy of 'Loose' just to get her autograph....i requested 'you are loved' and she acted surprised, but played it for us anyway
Victoria is truly a treasure. I love her and her work. I appreciate that her music reveals the simple things in life that might have been overlooked. She is so special....
I've been listening to, and appreciating Vic for decades. She is an amazing songwriter, and performer dedicated to her craft in a HUGE way. She's unique, and some people can't grasp that, but she grows on you... I can only hope people listen to her message, not only is it worth hearing, it's transforming.
i'll always enjoy listening to your music...I'm looking forward to sharing my taste of music with my 5 year old daughter when shes a little older...thankyou Victoria
She's wonderful! I met her through a friend and we saw Lucinda Williams together long ago. A glorious person with a lovely voice and grweat story skills.
So amazing to see this show again! I remember it from when I was a child. I ran right out and bought "Loose", after having seen this performance on late-night weekend TV. It's been stuck in my head ever since. Thanks for posting it! Victoria is so lovely and graceful here =)
when I met her,I was pretty intense, and SHE seemed to think I was crazy-but she signed my Cd, and played you are loved ffor me,so I was a little hurt-that she would react like that'-cos I'm her biggest fan-but I had short hair and was dressed nice, almost corporate style-so she probably thought I was a cop.so I havent listened to this in years-"Century Plant is SO positive-and I'm only 51-
#ugottalisten2b4udie He sees someone suffering. He knows that despair. He offers them a rose & some quiet prose; and Mary rising up above it all. Pass it around. *In December 2015, Williams had a seizure, injuring her back and shoulder. Although she was expected to recover fully, the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund was seeking donations to help cover the associated costs, which her medical insurance again would not cover.

God tier. Been in love with Victoria's music for decades.
One of the most beautiful optimistic songs ever. I come back to this whenever I'm feeling down or purposeless.
Honestly, CAMP introduced me to this beautiful song 💚
Victoria is a true American asset. It is the unique voices like hers that are what make America a great land. People would do well to remember that.

Much much love for Victoria, you know I never discovered her music until last summer and I can tell you honestly, it has changed my life. Seriously.
Loose is one of the most important albums released in 1994. I'm French and how I'd love to see Victoria Williams!

Excellent! I had a video of Victoria a few years ago, and accidently erased it. This made my day!

Never heard of her.. A new fan. Love the pearl jam version of crazy mary. Hope she gets well!
was this when she opened for Hootie ? I think I was there if it was. I remember the crowd was talking all thru her set and it was not cool!
Very good
awesome
Victoria's voice takes a little getting used to but she does a warm delivery of Century Plant, certainly outshining any movie version of the song.
I don't know about you folks out there in the west ... But she sure had her musical influence flying all the way to INDIA !!
i am back, and i reiterate both my love and my gratitude.
