True, but there's a difference between screaming and squeaking/squealing. Unfortunately there are loads of lead players out there who don't seem to understand that.
Blue Birdland is the song that Maynard always opened his concert with, and closed his concert with a well. He would walk on stage to the music and play the final 12 bars or so - a screech solo. He would take his bows and walk off stage to that song at the end of the concert. It can be heard on the Live At Jimmy's live album.
I’m so glad they invited Eric to this event. His sound is really full and well toned. Wayne did great as usual. Patrick is just a nuisance in this performance
Why in the hell would they allow Patrick to stand next to Eric and Wayne AND give him a solo. What the hell was that anyway? Not a single note he played kept the tuning for more than two seconds and everything sounded clenched and awful. Jesus Christ
I had the great honor of meeting Maynard Fergurson when i was in high school. and got the chance to hear him play live at the Robin hood dell in Philly.. what a great musician...
Everyone standing on that stage owes a piece of their soul to Maynard Ferguson. It took all of their collective and colossal talents to equal who Stan Mark called..."The Greatest Trumpet Player in the World!" No - there is no way to choose the greatest, because there were so many greatest - all of whom we trumpeters idolize for each of their unique gifts and contributions to the music world and trumpeting in particular. Still - what we hear in this amazing tribute is all the love generated for The Boss... and all the love he poured out of that horn and from his heart to all of us. May his legacy as exemplified by all these wonderful players live on for eternity!
Jon Allen yeah after you start hitting that double G you're really just doing controlled squealing, I only use valves at that point to get a bearing on what note I should be playing lol

I just can't stop watching this! Three brilliant master solo trumpet players burning up the stage....BUT the sloppy drummer and his very sad lack of tempo just ruins everything!!!
Rafik Mankarios As I recall, the drummer was trying to rein in a couple of dozen egomaniac horn players. I of course am the best!
Wayne Bergeron is easily one if my favorite trumpet players to watch and listen to
I love Wayne and Eric but Patrick is just showing off range...... He could at least try to be a musician not the sterotypical trumpet
Patrick playing high sounds like shit.
i think he wasn't even getting as high as he wanted, and he squeaked
Trumpets are made to scream
Nah jk
True, but there's a difference between screaming and squeaking/squealing. Unfortunately there are loads of lead players out there who don't seem to understand that.
nah idgaf, that was insane
Tenor sax solo was fire. 😎
What is the name of the piece they start playing at 4:40
Blue Birdland
Blue Birdland is the song that Maynard always opened his concert with, and closed his concert with a well. He would walk on stage to the music and play the final 12 bars or so - a screech solo. He would take his bows and walk off stage to that song at the end of the concert. It can be heard on the Live At Jimmy's live album.
How can 6 people dislike this! They have ears right!
I’m so glad they invited Eric to this event. His sound is really full and well toned. Wayne did great as usual. Patrick is just a nuisance in this performance
i long so sorely that i couldve seen him live or played with him, but i wish more that he were still alive doin his thing!
Tht fuckin tenor omg wtf, and im a trumpet player wtf
Makes me wanna jog thru the streets of Philly early in the morning.
Why in the hell would they allow Patrick to stand next to Eric and Wayne AND give him a solo. What the hell was that anyway? Not a single note he played kept the tuning for more than two seconds and everything sounded clenched and awful. Jesus Christ
agreed he was so bad
Carson Clay it looked like he doesn’t have tuning slide
Look closely at 3:58 it looks like he doesn’t have a tuning slide maybe that’s why every single note sounds out of tune
Nathan Gomez what in the hell are u talking about
I had the great honor of meeting Maynard Fergurson when i was in high school. and got the chance to hear him play live at the Robin hood dell in Philly.. what a great musician...
4:12 that guy pisses me off, all he is doing is squealing his trumpet instead of doing a solo, what a show off...
Wayne blew his line so he went in the studio to fix it thus his fingers dont match the phrase
Or you just realized that when you go up that high the valves really matter anymore
Jon Allen yeah after you start hitting that double G you're really just doing controlled squealing, I only use valves at that point to get a bearing on what note I should be playing lol
This was Maynard' s memorial service and most of the guys were very emotional. What a touching tribute to My hero!
GIVES ME IMMEDIATE EMOTIONAL HIGH ENERGY WHEN I WAKE UP REALLY SPACED OUT AND GROGGY, IF I CAN CRAWL TO THE COMPUTER AND PUT THE MUSIC ON.
What the fuck Patrick
I WANNA LEARN HOW TO SCREAM LIKE THEM! IT'S GOING TO YEARS FOR ME THOUGH TO LEARN! THESES GUYS ROCK!
Is a great trumpeter Maynard Ferguson.
Is really great and everyone played well!
I know this all about the trumpets, but that Tenor solo rocked!!
15 years!!! It seems like just yesterday I wasn’t able to make it to this concert. So glad it got recorded though so we can keep enjoying it forever.
The last track off the Tribute DVD is killer!!!
That was an amazing performance. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. I was in the front row. I can't believe it's been 4 years since Maynard left us. There will never be another Maynard. By the way, I love Wayne (he's my favorite lead player)...but Eric DOES project just as well.
Can’t believe it’s been 11 years since this comment
Is this what trumpet heaven looks like?
