@@CactusBobsPlace I agree that adding a tail fin to this and allowing the mount to be free swiveling would make this much more adaptable. Being in a fixed position just means you have to keep adjusting every time the wind starts to swirl...might be great for straight line wind areas though. Personally, for the weight and size I'd rather just carry a good battery pack to recharge off of for my kit. Having a larger wind turbine for a home or base camp, hell even vehicle mounted, would be more advantageous overall. Semper Fi
Awesome little wind turbine, I live in Eastern WA and there's tons of wind here so I would have to use a pole in the ground instead of a tripod. Myself I would use the turbine plugged into a battery pack and then plug in whatever device to the battery pack.
Agreed. I'd rather have a vehicle mounted turbine to recharge my vehicle battery, or a series of batteries, all night while I use my truck's outlets to charge my device. If this is intended for packing in a trekking kit, I'd rather just carry a good battery pack and solar panel. At least with the solar panel I'm not forced to be stuck in one place just to charge batteries, depending on the environment I'm in. Semper Fi
Awesome man! I find it interesting that you've, from what I saw over the years, never really talked about coms. Like, HAM, radio, CB etc. I just got into it and setting up my 79f150 with some. Pretty awesome and cheap these days. 8w UV-5RTP is like $30.
This is a pretty cool piece of equipment. It would be quite effective here in Alabama, where the wind seems to blow all the time, and REALLY blows during our frequent thunderstorms lol.
This is awesome Dave. Thanks for sharing this with us. I just love alternative energy devices. There’s a lot of junk but also a few quality items come through. The European products almost never disappoint.
Seems well made. I would think it would be more consistent with a vane and bearing mount for rotation of the entire device to keep it centered in the wind better. But all in all it looks well designed. As always, thanks for sharing.
That is a nice looking system and I could use it on those days when we lose our electricity due to storms, or while away from home on camping trips, or traveling.
With the fps was it spinning the whole time or was it stopping and starting. Side note. I have missed crew cut goatee Dave for several years now. Badass of the woods.
Hi Dave. Very unrelated question here: How did you feel the first time you read Kephart’s “Camping & Woodcraft” to read the opening with a quote from “Canterbury Tales” ? Did that signify some beyond coincidental confirmation for you? Also, thanks for sharing so much that’s helped keep my family and others safer.
Great video, kudos. Many thanks for your years of posting videos. Dave you may wish to have a look at the BioLite CampStove 2. Electricity from fire. Very interesting.
@@DavidCanterbury yeah, I'm personally speaking from eastern Alabama. We dont get as much wind here, though i would be interested in whether it could be repurposed for hydro use in a small stream or river.
Erratic or intermittent charging like that can seriously damage your devices battery and/or charge board it would be better suited for charging a decent power bank like the Anker powercore+ 26800 they would be a great pairing
That's a great device to have! Are you going to be at Flintlock 2 Dave? I was in the Pathfindet Basic school a month ago in Lake George N.Y. Unfortunately you were out of the country or something. Hope to see you soon!
If this is reasonably priced and well built, it looks like a good piece of gear. The problem is a 'stable genius' claims the sound causes cancer. Additionally, you don't want to use these near your home because that same 'stable genius' says your property value will plummet.
Perfect for the Texas Panhandle like around Amarillo where the wind blows 20-40 mph everyday. At night it calms down a bit, but that charger was made for the Panhandle lol.
As a secondary power source looks like a great alternative, depending on specs as well as internal and casing construction. Not optimum as a primary. Would have to see if the weight was worth it. Maybe more of a base camp item.
As I said any tripod will work I actually mounted it to my rear rack facing the wind with a go mount, just to leave it a couple hours for testing and avoid the tripod blowing over
Hey David I looked it up that's pretty neat Waterlily that's pretty cool great solution like the wind turbines thing you have there that's direct-connect I have flashlight so I can run off that the solar thing USB I pick those things out that they would last a long long time thank you..
Looks a good bit of kit Dave, looking for something similar at the moment 👍. Cheers makes a change from the solar charger and might be better in the UK lol 😃
Its a UK product too. They used to sell their hand crank on Heinnie Haynes, the windmill is based on the hand crank n the hand crank is guaranteed for life.
Did it charge the laptop? How many amps does it produce at what voltage in say, a 5mph wind? Is the output regulated? Is it waterproof/resistant? How much does it weigh? How much does it cost? After reading the comments; If you were driving down the road, you would charge your device in the cigarette lighter. Putting a wind turbine on a vehicle would cause more drag than the energy needed to charge the device from the engine you are already using to power the vehicle. In other words; It would be idiotic to attach a windmill to a car to generate power.
It’s usually better to plug a usb battery into these charging devices. That way your iPad, rechargeable flashlight, or whatever gets a steady flow of electricity from the battery.
Amazing product! I just received Bushcraft Illustrated in the mail today I have the complete set Bushcraft Illustrated Bushcraft 101 Advanced Bushcraft The field guide to trapping Gathering and cooking And Bushcraft first aid
I was hoping you'd put it on top of your Jeep, to illustrate how any wind-powered turbine works best when it's above anything that will disrupt the velocity and direction of wind around it. That's why it kept stopping and starting.
Do you see any sun? Multiple device and backups are what self reliance is all about there is a reason there are thousands of acers of Wind Mills in the US
Seems to me that for the cost you could get a small portable solar panel and pocket battery that would be far more useful, easier to use, and no moving parts to wear out.
Nice also have a charging battery pack to it so when that's charge you going to charge it without the wind and the winter will this charge the battery pack, nice jeep Dave
could mount it to your car or bike while you move lol or attach it to a battery bank anker has good quality power banks, and let it charge or put the turbine ona hill or near the coast
If you're charging a phone/tablet directly, make sure it's powered off or else the screen will drain the battery every time it comes on.

You'd be better off to charge a battery backup, they are more forgiving on power fluctuations than devices like iPad and such.
Yep, this was just an easy demo to show the charge happening
Good to go, I was thinking the same thing. Do you think like an anchor battery for devices?
Awesome little wind turbine, I live in Eastern WA and there's tons of wind here so I would have to use a pole in the ground instead of a tripod. Myself I would use the turbine plugged into a battery pack and then plug in whatever device to the battery pack.
That looks like another great option to have. Redundancy is key. Great video as usual.
Just want to say that your new book Bushcraft Illustrated is fine reading material. Real useful for a newbie like me.
Looking good bro, been a fan since dual survival 1st season, thank you for all you do
There's something wrong with it out having a tail and not being able to rotate into the wind
True, but I think the prop should charge even if it reverses direction.

Purchase price and longevity?
Just strap it to your head and go for a jog, never have a dead battery again out in the field. Useful as always Dave, thanks for your time!

It should work forever in scotland 😁

Yet another top notch video that is useful and to the point.
With the fps was it spinning the whole time or was it stopping and starting. Side note. I have missed crew cut goatee Dave for several years now. Badass of the woods.
Spinning fast and slower Frame rate was set to 240 at 4K
Thank you.
It seams like the head doesn't swivel, which is important so that it can turn and take the wind from various angles for constant charging.
How weather proof is this? Could you possibly stick the propeller (not submerged) into a running stream?
It has a water resistant housing
thinking about mounting it to the front of my camper

Not the typical thing we see on this channel, but looks pretty handy and practical.
Pretty cool, I like the small form factor
That and a solar panel would be pretty nice for van camping.

Thanks for your motivational videos the other day Dave... I just filed for the formation of my business.
I like this device, thanks for sharing Dave.
Seems like a nifty little device, good to be aware of.
Definitely a good piece of kit for people in the western states especially if you are into multiple day ventures.
I have plenty of wind most of the time here in Ohio on a ridge
@@DavidCanterbury yeah, I'm personally speaking from eastern Alabama. We dont get as much wind here, though i would be interested in whether it could be repurposed for hydro use in a small stream or river.
Install a battery in between the fan and your device. One could also have a second charging while the other is in use...
nice and easy set up but would love 2 see a tail and rotation
Erratic or intermittent charging like that can seriously damage your devices battery and/or charge board it would be better suited for charging a decent power bank like the Anker powercore+ 26800 they would be a great pairing
I wonder if a hand crank is in the works?
They already have on and a Solar Panel
@@DavidCanterbury excellent. I will be checking it out more. Thank you
Badass! On non windy days I'm sure you can modify the wings for running water.
Dave, off topic but do you ever regret getting your tattoos? I want to get a few, but my grand father said he regretted getting his.

Perfect for the Texas Panhandle like around Amarillo where the wind blows 20-40 mph everyday. At night it calms down a bit, but that charger was made for the Panhandle lol.
You could attach it to your pack for open air hikes, mountains etc, for real time charging while moving...
How about a review of the Jeep once you get some miles on it. I heard the new ones are made by Fiat and would trust your opinion.
not trying to be rude but Chrysler bought jeep in 1987 and Fiat bought Chrysler in 2014 so they been around for awhile, lots of Jeeps on the road
I have put 20,000 on it already no problems so far it is a 2016

Very good. Thank you very much
nice product n nice Jeep Dave
Yes was looking for such a device...for fishing trips..
Great video Dave. Do you think it could be mounted and driven at low speeds? Jeepin to camp site and charging would be awesome
Just plug it into the 12v accessories port in the vehicle
Pretty cool if I was back home where it's always windy I would buy one
I may have missed it but what is the max speed that this turbine can handle before tipping over without some stability issues.
If you're living in a windy area, an old washing machine can be converted into a wind driven generator.
Thanks for the video Bud
If yer going completely off grid for a week or two it would be an excellent compliment to a solar panel
The sun doesn't come out enough to be reliable

Check out Waterlily from Canada. Charges in wind or fast water.
Hi David were can you buy one I don't see it in your Amazon store page
That "windmill" would make a pretty cool hood ornament, Dave. Nice Jeep, too
I'm going to put a wind farm of those on my RV... maybe 12.
So where can you get one of these?
Nice! Like your jeep too ! Best wishes brother 👍🏽👍🏽
Looks like one could mount it to a Joby GorillaPod that can be secured to odd shapes like trees, fencing, uneven surfaces, etc...
As I said any tripod will work I actually mounted it to my rear rack facing the wind with a go mount, just to leave it a couple hours for testing and avoid the tripod blowing over
Can it be mounted on a pole? Like take a straight stick and stick it 20 ft up? Or does the cord prevent that?
Thanks.
