    In this video I dive into the MIDIHub and show you how to process MIDI to create generative random ambient music. You can use the MIDIHub for additional LFOs for your synths, or to delay or re-pitch notes for cool effects. I think you'll find this useful!
    If you saw my previous video I made a lovely ambient evolving track using only a set of notes played over and over, but processed through parallel pipes on the MIDIHub.
    The Digitone provides the sounds - but there are no notes programmed into the sequencer. The Arturia Keystep plays a simple repeating melody over and over, and the MIDIHub mangles the notes to create a constantly changing random melody. This is then processed by the Empress Effects Zoia using a glitchy looping patch.
    Update: tutorial 2 is available now with details on LFOs: • Tutorial: How to add M...

    Recently I bought a midihub and came here to learn about it, and after watching I ended up ordering a Zoia as well... I will come back and watch it again, after the Zoia arrived.

    Holy smokes!! This was mindblowing to me. I never knew MIDI could be so complex and manipulated in this way. I used to think that it was a basic thing like 'press this key and this note plays, turn this knob and this parameter changes'. But the way the Midihub lets you do so much more than that, like with the chance, the LFOs etc is amazing. And all the routing possibilities. Wow!
    I'm thinking of picking up a used Raspberry Pi (3B) to do similar things (initially as a MIDI USB Hub, but now so much more after watching this!). Do you know if there's similar routing and manipulation software, like the Midihub Editor, for a Pi? I see that there's Patchbox OS, which could make the Pi do even more things, like ORAC, MODEP, PureData stuff etc. I'm a coder on a small budget, so I'm thinking the Pi route would be better for me than the Midihub. Thanks in advance! I'm doing my own research on this too, but thought I'd ask for your input too. Cheers man!

    Very nice, thanks for posting. Currently waiting for mine to arrive! Please do some more, but ‘ground up basic’, as I’ m still not convinced how that software works, even after watching LP’s excellent video!
    The way you show and describe the connections and routings is great, very much needed for those of us less experienced than you.
    Thanks again!

    Thank you for the excellent and informative videos! I have recently gotten a deluge and came across your channel; I also just ordered a midi hub as I needed a thru box and this gave me that and much more! Forgive me if I missed something here, but can the ec4 be assigned with the midihub to control multiple midi cc parameters across different devices using one knob as a macro control?

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad it was helpful! Yes indeed it can - you just map the different MIDI CC values on those devices to whatever the EC4 is sending to the Midihub. Midihub is great for these type of jobs using parallel MIDI pipes

    Hi! My MIDIHub just arrived! The past few years I have had a 5 instrument MIDI setup, working in conjunction with a QX5 sequencer and a MIDI solutions QuadraThru Hub. I have added 2 more instruments in the past six months for a total of 7. I've always been able to figure out how to wire up all my MIDI cables. But now it's getting a bit overwhelming with this new equipment and I'm having difficulty getting all the instruments to work. Would you be willing to prescribe a new way of wiring everything up so that it will work with the MIDIHub? I can give you Model names and MIDI available ports for each instrument if needed. I really enjoyed this video. Thanks!!

    Great demonstration. I’ve been pondering over the midihub for a while. Can’t decide if this will serve my needs as much as a standard setup of usb midi host plus midi thru box plus midi merge box for hardware routing and control needs. While the midihub can do way more advanced stuff, can it still do any of that basic stuff too, negating the need for 3 other boxes? Cheers.

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question: the Midihub is not a USB host, so you can't plug a keyboard directly into it. I work around this using a Raspberry Pi as my USB host. But it will do all the MIDI merging and routing (and much more) that a standard Kenton or Mio box can do. And as you can write conditional logic in the Midihub you can save your filtering/merging be much smarter.

    • @madmac66
      @madmac66 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SynthDad Cool, thanks man. I have a RPi what would I need to make that a midi host? Can it host several controllers on a hub? Cheers

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@madmac66 If you plug in your USB device it should show up in the output of lsusb. Then you can use the aconnect command to link the USB device to the USB port on the Midihub.

    I have a midihub now thanks for making the videos, i know random notes are capable but the results usually do not sound musical even when you limit the range. Is there a way to create more of a Motif vs just random notes popping off? for example to reduce the probability of randomness (if that makes sense) 🤔

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Randomness is rarely musical on its own; it usually needs to be constrained to a scale. To get that level of control though you probably want a more dedicated device for making sequences

    Is the midi mapping of the external controller saved with each patch? Meaning, if you set the knobs to control a midi delay on one patch but on another patch it could be rate of an arp or something completely different. Thanks

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the MIDI mapping is saved with each patch on the Midihub
