The atmosphere seems very vibrant from both sides. I think this derby means a lot to all those fans.
I wish other clubs and stadiums had ultras like Palace...the majority of atmospheres are like tin pots or libraries

Palace fan here too. The rivalry stemmed from a few incidents, on both sides to be fair. The first was we had a manager doing very well for us in league 1 and left to them halfway through the season for wages. Then our new manager got coffee thrown on, so then we threw coffee on the old one then they started doing shit. We beat them and they tore up the nest (our old stadium) then we tore up theirs in response. Hope this helps in a basic way

Not sure why people would think 40 miles is too far apart. I'm a Norwich fan and Ipswich is 40 plus miles from us while their closest team is Colchester

There are plenty of derbys of similar distances, the likes of SKY are finding it hard to understand. If they actually travelled to games they would realise going to Palace takes half the time to Portsmouth let alone Southampton which is even longer and they regulary refer to our games vs them as 'south coast' rivalrys without batting an eyelid. They shoud also call it A23 not M23... M23 didnt even exist when this started.

If your derby is at 3pm there is more chance of crowd trouble as people can be in the pub all day before 3 to get drunk and cause violence whereas on a 7:45 kick off people are most likely to be at work in the day time
