hello my talented friends travis and suzi i hope you guys are well. this next band in the hair metal greatness series need no introduction. it is bon jovi with their very first single runaway performed live in 1985. runaway was the first song jon wrote and recorded in his cousin's studio in 1980. while visiting a local radio station where he was to sing and record christmas songs he showed them runaway and it was placed on a compilation album of songs from local talent. it started getting massive airplay and when jon formed his band it became the first single from their self titled debut album and reached the bilboard top forty.
Now this is how you take a tudio song to the stage and perform it live. So much talent and power!

This is from Bon Jovi's 1984 self titled debut album Bon Jovi. This album and their 2nd album 7800° Fahrenheit released in 1985 are my 2 favorite Bon Jovi albums.
2 great albums
so many hard rock bands with fire still in their belly.. Van Halen/Bon Jovi/Led Zeppelin & so many others do their best work in their first 1 or 2 albums.. when their young, raw & like lions have a certain attitude that often they lose as they age.. of course there is the odd exception..
So Spandex and leather and was just the best style ever…it was such a fun era.
I had the fortune of seeing them opening for KISS in 1984 in Stockholm. The fun fact is that some of the band members had whiskey that they drank on stage but later when KISS entered the stage Paul and Gene each opened a swedish bottle of sparkling water just to prove that You do not need to be drunk to perform.
I was there to, my first big concert. I missed the fact that Paul fell of the stage during the opening track Detroit Rock City, i was that amazed by the intensity and all the people at the show. I had ticket for the floor and stood pretty close to the stage.

I remember seeing them live sing this song in 1984, when they opened up for the Scorpions. If I remember correctly it was their first time singing in concert in Los Angeles.

Jon wasn't showing up to record Christmas music. He did that when he was like 12 years old or something. He invaded a radio station and forced the dj to listen to Runaway intentionally.

As great as they sound here and what they became they were an opening act stateside during this time. I saw them twice as an opening act, the second time specifically just to see them again. So Good!
