I thought to myself “it would be awesome if the Tour posted every shot of the playoff, but all they do is show 3 minutes of putts for any highlight reel.” All jokes aside this was great. Thanks PGA Tour!
About half a million dollars difference between 1st and 2nd too! That had to hurt. English seemed content to let whatever fate had in store happen. Paid off.
@@diggermeddler1169 Well they did play other holes than 18, so they obviously were willing to have people move. Usually #1 and #10 tee boxes are within a reasonable walking distance from the 18th green, so those would be options. You could also have the players go drive out to 9, and finish by the clubhouse. Another common format is after the first sudden death playoff hole, they’ll go back to 16 and play their way in. I guarantee if you asked the players, they would tell you they didn’t care for that format. That pin on 18 was inaccessible, and very difficult for the players to get aggressive to try and make birdie. They were playing for par almost every time, which is why they tied so many times.
How about a Par 3 hole. Same holes over and over is kind of boring. Maybe they could use carts in the playoff to speed it up a bit. Of course that would end the commercial fest.
To those who don’t like the playoff format: Most events are formatted similar or exactly like this because by the end of a tournament, every fan on the entire course is huddled around 18. It would take way too much time and hassle running the spectators around to different holes especially since playoffs are usually racing against daylight
I still think Justin Rose has the total package but needs to hit the power fade almost exclusively. Why? Look at Thomas the talent king struggling with his tee ball hooks etc.
Justin Rose has had a very solid career 10 pga tour wins and a handful of European Tour and international wins. At 40 years old his best days are behind but dont be surprised if he adds another Major title to his U.S Open win.
Little known fact - the guy that has been the "GET IN THE HOLE!" idiot since 1998 - he was the Rainbow Wig John 3:16 guy back from '76-81 ! True story! He took the time in the interim off to run an Amway distributorship out of his rumpus room in Des Moines, .. nk! His name is Fritz O'Callahan - an Italian American fellow.
Yeah this was a cool finish, but the repetitiveness of this format made it extremely boring to watch. People calling this "the most exciting finish in recent history".... they parred 7 holes in a row???
Epic? They both choked on every hole until finally they make a putt. Bad drives, poor irons into the green. Not exactly marquee players but they did make a fortune for their efforts.
@@sunsetviewmensleague3517 It’s simply because pars don’t win championships. This wasn’t the USOpen. H.E. finally proved it after 8 holes. Poor drives, poor iron shots equal very long birdie attempts and scramble pars. However I love the way H.E. didn’t celebrate in his opponents face like some golfers do. He was total first class in his victory as was Hickok in defeat.
Hands down one of the best finishes in recent memory
nobody wanted to win!
these guys have got to be lifelong friends after this ordeal - great fun though
Kudos for not ruining the winner in the title!
I thought to myself “it would be awesome if the Tour posted every shot of the playoff, but all they do is show 3 minutes of putts for any highlight reel.” All jokes aside this was great. Thanks PGA Tour!
Hahahaha thought this exact same thing
Hickok made bank, glad he did as all in our house were rooting for him. Congrats to English, a class player!
How did Kramer’s putts not go in on the 2nd and 5th playoff hole
Thats why people say you need talent but also luck to win the tournament. That was tough though
That was by far the most exciting playoff in a long time
This wasn't pretty but it was exciting. It was like watching a couple of heavyweight boxers slugging it out. I loved it
it WAS pretty.
Two gladiators in the ring. Superb play from both, so exciting. Best playoff ever!
I was there!! Always an incredible finish at the Travelers
I'm a little disappointed they didn't go to the drivable par4, 15
I think they only play 18 and 17 so the crowd is close and the people in the stands can see. I may be wrong, just what I think. Cheers
@@BatMan-xr8gg Thanks
@@BatMan-xr8gg plus on this particular course there the closest setups for a double play if they go through 17

Just 2 bros in a heartstopping playoff trading thumbs up.
What is it with the Travelers Championship and epic playoffs?
@@actuallicensedteacher1846 you nailed it. Always a laser finish from the group and its a wide open who can win it! love it
they make the 18th an easy hole so it allows for playoffs.
@@wtrey333 so that is saying over 3 rounds and 17 holes that this last one is made for a playoff? I means the odds of that are crazy
This was more exciting than any recent tournament of relevance by far.
I hear the whack and a second later they hit it? I always thought the sound came after the strike.
Naah! That's just in movies.

Just like my PlayStation lol
Thought my internet was playing up until I saw this. Saved me a trip to reset the router.
These guys are so fun to watch. The talent level is off the charts.
The pros are so good at saving par, can't believe they parred 7 holes with this pressure and from bunkers, rough and bad lies.
This goes to show that these 2 were playing at a very similar level this tournament.
Kid y u got max pfp
That was damn near an emergency nine... after 4 rounds of tour golf? wow what a hard fought playoff
Two champions really. But only one trophy. Congrats to English.
About half a million dollars difference between 1st and 2nd too! That had to hurt. English seemed content to let whatever fate had in store happen. Paid off.
All the fans rooting and only showing of other dude's family & friends, Harris English still beat him. Congrats to English. LOL
English is like the new Ernie Els with that smooth swing, length off the tee and ice in his veins. I think he will be competitive for a long time.
yes, so smooth, looks so easy,
13:47 "I WANNA GO HOME" lmao

This was incredible to watch when it happened.
I wanted Kramer to win
On 18 these guys found out they were getting paid per hole played and made a deal.
What was the duration of the playoff? I didn’t watch it but that had to be 2 hours I’m guessing.
12:22 I think I heard someone say "sheeee!" 😂😂
Bababoeyyyy “what does that mean” hahahaha
i’m pretty new to golf but i don’t understand why they play the same hole over and over again in a playoff
4:11 would have been epic
Not sure how i feel about this playoff format...How many times did they play the 18th hole?
How you want to do it then, the people can't run to holes further away.

If Harris English can channel where he was on this Sunday, a WGC will be his third win this season.
Harris +7500 for The Open 💰
Disrespecting the 2 time winner this year + the sole second finisher at US Open
annoying to me that they kept playing the same hole, who determined you do 18 over and over again with the occasional 17??
Golf, ladies and gentlemen.
How about a Par 3 hole. Same holes over and over is kind of boring. Maybe they could use carts in the playoff to speed it up a bit. Of course that would end the commercial fest.
They needed to keep the fans in one place
GET IN THE HOLE!!! Ah, it never gets old.
PGA TOUR TH-cam page DOES read the comments!
I like how English wasn't too happy after the putt at the 2nd dropped, almost like he knew he shouldn't have pushed.
Attrition to the fullest, wow.
Had Harris outright 😍
Hearing Jim Nantz Voice Gives Me Chill's
“BABABOOEY”
“what does that mean”
Is that Kramer's mom or a manequin?
why did they only play 2 holes in the playoff? I thought they could go to any hole?
To keep the fans close
