    This video was something that was really important to me and is something I've wanted to talk about for a long time.
    Recently, working with my doctors, I learned that my body doesn't detox as well as most people. Because of that my body was high in unhealthy toxins, one of which was PLASTIC!
    I have began to switch to better for you and better for the environment products and I am excited to announce that many of the toxins have began leaving my body. I've reduced the amount of plastic in my blood by 80% in 6 months by being smarter about the products I buy and use.
    While I know it can be a lot to detox an entire home, I hope you can find at least a few helpful tips to help you get started!

    PSA for all that don't know, if you buy compostable material but throw it away in your city waste bins it will not be composted. This is because a landfill doesn't have the conditions available to facilitate the composting process. So, if you are buying compostable material for environmental reasons make sure you compost it yourself or insure it gets to a waste management facility that can properly compost it. Otherwise, it makes no difference environmentally, unfortunately.

      Depends on the country and city. In Norway, Oslo we get differently coloured bags for plastic and foodwaste. I know Japan does this too to an even more intricate level.
      I'm assuming you mean America, though.

    Just a fyi: nonstick pots and pans are only "leeching" into your food if the surface is damaged and pieces of the coating are chipping off into whatever you're cooking. So they're completely safe to use, just don't scratch them up with metal utensils, store them carefully so they don't get all banged up and replace pots and pans that have scratches

      Same, but over time I've been able to replace a lot of things. I've found bamboo paper products, Coconut/ walnut sponges, bamboo cutting boards, and reusable sandwich bags and recycled glass jars are some of the cheapest.
      The cleaning spray recipe is pretty cheap to make too!

    *Tip:* Use a *cork pad* - or similar - under the coffee pot, especially if you have a stone kitchen counter, which is cold, so that when you pour boiling water into the coffee pot, it stresses the cold glass pot. One day, the glass could explode. This is true for any time you place hot glass plates or hot glass bakeware onto stone counters. Be careful. 💚

    Off topic: I know you don't always see all the comments, but I want to reiterate something I said in a video awhile ago: am LOVIN' your natural hair, so much. You look so beautiful. You're such a sweet little light to TH-cam and you make me laugh, even when you're being a lil cheesy. My aunt told me the other day she watches your videos sometimes, and says you sing beautifully. She loves your opera especially. Opera & symphony music were the first music things I was introduced to as a child (my favorite as a kiddo was The Magic Flute, especially one that was done at the Met, I forget the year; I have it recorded on VHS lol) and you're just a blessing. I wonder if my aunt will see this comment lol.
    Sorry for the novel 🫠🫶🏻

    I started to drink looseleaf tea, using reusable and safe metal tea filters, and its one of my best choices. I am happy to have gotten into it and I've built a vey nice collection of teas that I enjoy without sugar too. Tiesta Tea is the brand I like, but other brands are out there. My town has a local food market with locally sourced herbs and other things for tea that you can create customized mixes out of and its the best thing ever.

    Real question, so wooden cutting boards were standard in the 90s and before. There was a movement to move away from wooden cutting boards because there were concerns about being able to properly sterilize them. That’s when a big push toward plastic ones became a thing. You could properly wash them and sanitize them, and it’s easier to toss them when their lifespan is over. So is there a better more efficient way to clean and sterilize them now? And how do you properly dispose of them when they’re worn down and you need to replace them?

    Wooden cutting board are better than plastic but every time you cut on the board a cut is created on the board. This cuts can fill with food and debris and be a breeding ground for bacteria. Also, I find that wooden cutting boards break down over time when they are multiple cuts of wood glued together. I use a stone(marble) cutting board. This also has it disadvantages too, mainly being heavy and not that great for knifes.

    I do absolutely adore you Ro... but as a nurse a lot of this stuff is odd. Everything is made of chemicals. The coloring you use for your baked goods, chemicals, water, chemicals. Plastic is used to wrap everything in hospitals. Unless your kidneys and liver are compromised, your body filters just fine. Going green is amazing and wonderful for the environment. And I love doc bronners for just about everything. Swapping out cleaners and stuff is fine but don't let people who just want to take your money tell you that your body isn't designed to get rid of toxin. Also there's still chlorine (trace amounts of chlorine unless it goes through a filter) so its still touching your dishes and hands. Don't get too overwhelmed. You'll make yourself crazy.

    • @mollieglad
      @mollieglad ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously! The amount of comments too taking things at face value but no details about what “toxins” are and how detoxing even works..

    • @RosannaPansino
      @RosannaPansino  ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Like I mentioned in the video my body doesn't detox well (this is due to a double gene mutation). I don't think replacing everything in the home is realistic for anybody, but with the steps I've taken so far my blood levels of many toxins have already gone down 50-80%.
      Even though there is nothing you can do thats 'perfect', looking for areas to improve on has already made a huge difference for my health. Many companies cut corners and use chemicals and ingredients that are outlawed in many other countries. These were some of the changes I've made and have seen the direct results of that through working with my doctor.

      Nah my whole Family are doctors and the NUMBER ON RULE IS mind your own business girl- you don’t know what’s happening behind this screen and no offense and respectfully I think you are smart but I doubt that your a nurse and you can’t attack someone for this reason is you adore or you would have know about this problem and btw I think the amount of times she talked about detox sums her condition all up.

    This video was very informational and much appreciated! Thank you for sharing your research findings with us.
    I just wanted to add one more quick suggestion regarding your gum choice at the end 17:36 I notice this is their CLASSIC gum, while they offer a SUGAR FREE alternative. I understand your main focus is detox, but from a tooth perspective, never chew SUGAR gum, even if it's a sugar substitute etc. Chewing sugar gum can increase your risk of dental decay/cavities. I highly suggest you switch to their SUGAR FREE type of peppermint gum.:)

      That's just the thing about videos like these: you don't need to buy a metric ton of plastic containers to store your things and replace everything in your home because consuming more and throwing your other stuff away kinda defeats the purpose of trying to be eco conscious. But like she briefly mentioned in the video, the most environmentally friendly thing is to use the things you have on hand already. And if/when you can, try to invest in something that'll last you a lifetime like a good cast iron or stainless steel pan for example. Minimizing consumption should be the goal.

      You’re absolutely right. The best option is to only buy things you absolutely need, use what you already have and make purchases that’ll last you a long time. Good quality cookware for example is something that can make a huge difference for your health (speaking from experience). If you’re a coffee or tea drinker, switching to a better brand can make a difference on both your footprint and your health. It’s really about what’s most important to you.

    Wow - so many toxins! All of these chemicals slowly wreak havoc on our bodies, especially women! Thank you for educating us a little bit, Ro. It’s definitely something I am interested in doing myself ☺️💕

    Oh no, that sucks. I hope your liver gets better soon! Perhaps cutting back on alcoholic beverages would also be good?
    I must confess that if someone told me a couple years back that I'd get to listen to you talking about sustainability I would not believe them, but I'm honestly proud of how far you've come! Well done!

    Love this video Ro! I am sensitive to harsh toxic chemicals as well, and have been on a journey to more sustainability too.
    Rosanna you should look into beeswax wraps as well to help replace your zip lock drawer or cling wrap when you run out. They are reusable and washable!

    I hope one day I can follow along to detoxing my life style. Atm currently trying to move out so my Fiancé and I can start out life together ❤.
    I would like to mention a product I been using *idk if it's green but it did reduce waste. It a USB lighter for candles I found on Amazon. It said it can last up to 500 lighters which is already a great win, it doesn't smoke, or leave bad smells.

      It might be impossible to replace everything, but as I use up certain products I've been keeping an eye out for things that might be less toxic!

    Ro, do you have measurements for the water and vinegar for that all-purpose cleaning solution? What do you usually use it to clean? (Is there something specific you like to use it for, I mean?) And is the lemon an extract or a juice or a scented oil or something else? Thanks! ❤🍋
