- Team USA faced South Sudan and nearly lost a game that most thought wouldn't be anything close to a challenge. South Sudan controlled a majority of the game with speed and great defense. Lebron was the MVP that led team USA to victory with contributions on the defensive end as well as offensive firepower that culminated into the game winning shot. Team USA may look unstoppable, but this game showed that there is definite room for upset.

Congrats to South Sudan! The heart that the smaller countries play with is something a lot of the wealthier countries have forgotten as was also evident in the recent Euro Cup, but not in the COPA America.
When Turkey was one goal down against the Netherlands, so Turkey was about to be knocked out, they fought like heck, created so many chances in the last five minutes. It's on the highlight reel from TSN. Highly recommend!
Then compare those tireless efforts with teams like Belgium, Italy, France for example. Esp Italy who were basically sleepwalking, which is pretty unusual for them.

That same passion was lacking for France in the Euro, though. I know Mbappé was injured. Even wearing the mask, there’s no way to play as if nothing ever happened. I don’t know if that was the only reason, but they were certainly more subdued than they had been in 2022.
Euro 2024 Austria did brilliantly against the Netherlands; Austria winning the group was highly unexpected, and very cool.
Georgia beating Portugal and Slovakia beating Belgium were absolute highlights. Not sure how England managed to find the last-minute goal against Slovakia but I was hoping for an upset. Nothing against England. I just love a good underdog beating the more established team.
Hungary versus Scotland was absolutely lit. That was game three of the group stage so it was on at the same time as Germany versus Switzerland. Hungary versus Scotland went on for 10 minutes injury time longer and that was some of the most exciting football I have ever watched!
The group that had Slovakia, Belgium, Ukraine, and Romania all ending up with four points is probably some kind of record! Romania winning the group was probably not on anybody’s bingo card!
Sorry to see Croatia really ran out of steam there. They could be the poster boys of underdogs playing with heart! Their population is around 4 million.
Not sure if we can consider Portugal a kind of underdog as they are always a solidly performing team. But they only have 10 million people which is very small compared to France, Spain, Germany, England, etc. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Portugal slacking off.

Magic was right. When people compared the 2008 olympic team to the dream team, Magic thought 92 dream team would beat the 2008 Olympic team because they have weaker centers. It continued. NBA is more talented than ever but they can't play in the post. USA centers can't defend tall players. NBA pushed these perimeter plays too far that they can't play tall opponents no more.
Now imagine this present team lining up against the 1996 frontline of Shaq/Olajuwon/Robinson. Top to bottom they’re not even better than that squad let alone 1992.

Kerr basically has 2 teams he swaps in and out in full. He does have the luxury here but that's how he runs warriors games too. In this game the starters had an awful record and almost lost the game while the bench unit kept them afloat and gave them the lead that barely lasted till the end. The issue is that when Curry's 3s are falling they will destroy anyone. When they're not, this system is a mess. He is a streaky player so this creates high highs and low lows.
