Segments culled from The Persuader: A documentary on Sir Lew or Lord Grade. Rest in peace Patrick you will always be my favourite actor. Be seeing you.
I was just 9 years old I believe when the final episode aired. My brother who was ten years older than I gathered us around the tv each week as he was the official fan of the show, and I'll never forget his reaction to the reveal at the end of the final episode when he shouted across the room, "Oh, wowww...it's HIM!!" I grew to love The Prisoner as I grew older and came to realize that we are all prisoners in a society filled with doors that we are unable to open, and often unable to close.
He delivered this classic line in the first episode of the Prisoner- "It had crossed my mind" after number 1 said "I suppose you're wondering what you're doing here?"
Fascinating. One thing struck me - in an interview I saw in this series which was filmed in Canada (I think) it struck me how his accent was much more Canadian/American than I had expected. In this one for British TV it is much more English.
3:03 '' He shook my hand , we never had a contract . He never interfered in any thing that i did , never bothered me '' ......... It was a powerful handshake is it ?
There WAS a time when a handshake was your "bond." Each lived up to his end of the bargain. Not any more. Written contracts must be drawn up, lawyers get involved, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Patrick McGoohan and Lord Grade did not need all that BS.
pseudo intellectualizing the series (in an academic environment) tends to trivialize the episodes. It's best to let it be. Less is more. Keep it personal and within yourself. I think that's what Patrick McGoohan wanted.
I saw the bible - a thick, maybe 3" binder on display at a science fiction convention in Toronto in 196? before I knew what the show was. That sighting and what that book contained has haunted me ever since - and it may have only referred to the originally planned 7 episodes. and have been compiled for the writers who came on to expand the series. Perhaps it's better not to know.
I love Patrick McGoohan. He was bright, handsome, intelligent .. and he was my childhood hero. He was for a lot of us.
Thanks!
Totallly agreewithyouabout Patrick!💓❤️🤍🤎💚
This is a wonderful documentary. It's really awesome to be able to listen to him talk as himself. He had an adorable laugh.
Patrick Taught Choices We Make In Life Makes Us Our Own Prisoners.

That's a great and fun recollection. Thanks!

My pleasure.
Lew Grade was an amazing man. Responsible for much of classic British TV.

Thank you so much!! McGoohan was (and remains) both a highly respected & beloved actor AND childhood hero to me, my brother and sister. :-)
Hi 13 years later......Don't mind me, I just like replying to really old comments when I see them.
Lew Grade can produce some brilliant TV show

The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh himself.
Patrick was so handsome and with that gorgeous voice. When was this documentary made?
1994. Bbc2 did a programme called ATV night. There is 50 minutes documentary about the media mogul Lew Grade. Worth watching.
@@garyhunt9600 Definitely. Good interview.
Totally over-rated Roger Moore looked and sounded way better! Moreover McGoohan ruined his looks with that ridiculous beard
Executives letting creatives get on with it…
Lord Paddy had a Voice like Ian Mckellen...bold, brash...An utter lack of pretense
A wery good actor. 😊

Patrick never revealed that Lew Grade( aka ...) was Number Six's real Number One. Patrick was controlled opposition and remains just another number.
