Incredible. A fantastic reminder of our industrial past, and inginuity. History, geography, beautiful filming, fantastic informative chit chat, stunning scenery, outstanding music choice and editing, All the usual really. Nice one. 💖🙏💖
Conscious of the work which must go into making these videos, thank you. We cruised in our boat last year and stayed in the marina at the end of the Llangollen and had a day in the town including a trip on the heritage railway.
Love the video. We have walked that route a few times and done by boat too. We were there last April. Have found this interesting and learnt a few things. Never knew about the rail crash. Looking forward to the next installments. Great work Ant.
Coming here from Tassie, AU in May, Ant. (Originally from Kimberley, Nottingham:). Another glorious video. You always capture the views exactly as we would wish to see them. Particularly those lovely bridges and the drone footage is always spectacular; accompanied by that uplifting music😊. Looking forward to the next one! Thank you so much.
Was really interesting Ant. Some crash that was all these years ago. Great filming. Looks a fantastic place to walk about . Thank you for taking us. Look forward to next instalment.
Great video Ant, looking forward to next ones. Walked over the Pontcysyllte viaduct a few years back plus walked through the tunnel and across the viaduct at Chirk many times, it’s a lovely area. Thanks again for the great footage 👍
Lovely to see - have a good friend who is descended from the chap who walked to raise the alarm after the crash, while badly injured, have sent her the link as know she will love this too, and the fact that someone has told his story.
Another picturesque video this day. Looks like a nice day for the walk also. A nice walking path also. I really appreciate your walks on these sites. See you on the next. Enjoy the weekend, and see you on the next. Cheers Ant! 🇬🇧🙂👍🇺🇸
It's a stunning bit of canal in a stunning part of the country. Walked the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct a few years ago when I was staying in the Bryn Howel hotel! We were there for a week installing a computer booking system there and in sister hotels in the area. Fond memories 🙂
@@TrekkingExploration I'm really not good with heights, and the walk across that on a windy day was pretty hairy! I can't imagine going across there standing on a boat on the side without the handrail! Looking forward to the next few vids 🙂
Stayed on the camping / motorhome site just outside Liangollen last September and did the walk . You`ve brought back some happy moments as we loved it there . Thanks for sharing👍👍👍👍
Excellent video. I am looking forward to the next videos in the series. I live in the area and enjoy walks and the scenery when I can. Some books that people might find of interest for more information are: Llangollen & Montgomery Canals, by Waterways World, Ruabon To Barmouth, by Middleton Press, The Llangollen Line, Fox Line. Keep up the good work.
As usual, fascinating and interesting. I particularly liked the hotel wall with the balls on top and gateway in the middle. Shame that the building now seems boarded up. What a super walk that was - bring on the next one! Many thanks for your usual enthusiasm, Ant.
Back on the old T &T walks!!! Looks like we're in for another top series👍👍👍 In places it looked like the towpath was wider than the canal. Thanks Ant, patiently waiting for next week!!!!
Walk the plank! That's a good'un! I like the idea of walking across the aqueduct. One to add to the ever-growing bucket list. Such a beautiful walk. Nice one, Ant. Made my day. Cheero. 🤓💜
I've seen that very high aquaduct on TV & videos so many times & every time it amazes & petrified me at the same time, I could not go over it! Llangollen is a stunning place to visit Ant & you have done a great job for the tourist board there! So much to see this is one of my favourite ever videos of yours Ant. FAB! ❤😊👍
Ant, thanks for sharing your beautiful countryside and history. It seems your U-tube life is one adventure/journey after another., I hope you know how lucky you are to be awash in so much history.......... Thanks for your time, work and posting. mike
The archway in the bridge is where they used to store stop planks.Under the bridge there would have been slots to slide them in and block the canal off in case of a breach or for maintenance. It was important to install the planks dry, then they would absorb water and expand, forming a water tight seal.
Good video and full of interesting facts. Just a heads up, the old railway line was sold by the then Clwyd County Council to various neighbouring farmers in the early 80’s. There is only the section between Llangollen and the newly created pocket park that is open to the public. The other sections up to Trevor are used by the owners, and there is no public right of way along them.
Thanks very much. Yes I got so far along the route from Trevor Station, maybe half a mile? A couple of old kissing gate Frames then had to get onto the road then the canal for around a mile
Ant, I don't know if you are aware, The Llangollen Canal is also known as a navigable feeder as it supplies the drinking water for Nantwich. The water from the canal goes into Hurleston Reservoir. Also if you are to look at the locks, each lock has a bypass system in order to get the water past when the locks are not in use.
More than just Nantwich, it supplies much of south Cheshire. Several hundred million gallons of water per day apparently. It’s the fastest flowing canal in the UK because of Hurleston reservoir and takes longer to travel up to Llangollen than it does to return to Hurleston. The narrow sections from Trevor to Llangollen were originally envisaged as only a feeder. The smaller arches on bridges were to store stop planks for use in case of a breach of the canal.
I’ve been to Llangollen went to the ruins of the castle from village walked all the way up really nice did abit of rock climbing and rock absaling and l kayaked down that river some time back in 2013/2014
I've since learnt there was a small tramway here going into what looks like a quarry over the road. Unsure if this played a part. Thanks for watching 😊
Shame to see the once-grand Bryn Howell Hotel like that. It was widely regarded locally as a 'posh' hotel. I remember the great Luciano Pavarotti booked the hotel for himself & his entourage when he returned to perform at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod - 40yrs after he'd previously won one of the competitions as a young tenor with his local choir in 1955.
Nice video. You're not pronouncing it correctly, but hey, you're making a good effort, and that's fine. Just ask a local the next time that you're in the area. It will still take some prctise to get it correct, but you're giving it a bash, and that's what matters.👍
Another great episode Ant, can't wait for the aqueduct and the return railway bed walk and history. Thanks for sharing.

Nice one. The arch at 10:27 was probably for stop planks to put across the canal if a breach occurred.
I've got another theory since I put this together there was a short horse drawn tramway right about here
Top notch Ant,thanks

I really enjoyed this video. Lift bridges are great aren't they? So perfectly balanced.
Yes they certainly add some character too

Drinking water from a canal? I hope it is filtered and treated before it gets to nantwich. Who knows what is at the bottom of the canal.
More than just Nantwich, it supplies much of south Cheshire. Several hundred million gallons of water per day apparently. @@TrekkingExploration it is and no worries I miss that place

Great video! Almost got the pronounciation correct. It ends with an uh sound, not an ee sound ;)
Long time viewer here. 😊
A quick correction on pronunciation - it's pronounced pont-a-stuck-te with a soft ck, and Ruabon is roo-abbon.
That's a version I've not heard. I spent a lot of time with on site engineers and they were all saying Pont Cuh sill tuh
?
Great video, Ant, but why didn't you take your own boat?
Ive been land based for around 18 months now. I did hire one across here in 2011
Went on this canal in 1968, when canal holidays were in its infancy
I bet it was extremely quiet then
Very. Part of it was still derelict
