I traveled that bridge for 5 years in the mid to late 70s working for CG/aetna Ins. Co. on Kennedy Blvd. I remember seeing my first water spout from the bridge. I enjoyed driving across it because it provided a view from a good height (something not otherwise possible in such a flat landed state)! I moved back north to Connecticut just 10 months before this tragedy. It gave me some unsettling feelings when I heard of the collapse, and couldn't help but think of all the times I crossed the bridge safely.
I remember like it was yesterday, I was in Lakeland, Fl. looking out the front door that was facing West. I saw the blackest sky that I had ever seen headed East out of the Tampa Bay area. I will never forget that day!!!
My partner and I responded to the disaster that morning. Our small part in that event was best summarized in the May 6th.2020 front page article in the “Tampa Bay Times.” We did what we could to bring closure to the families of the victims.
I remember it well, I was in Greyhound driver training in Seattle, all my wife heard was a Greyhound bus went off a bridge, later she heard it was in Florida. Condolences to family members.
I recall this event. My late brother was a ship's captain based in Miami,and was up visiting us soon after this happened and said while this was a treacherous place in certain weather,but it was '100% preventable and 100% the captain's fault?' I also remember seeing the pictures of the car at 0:39, one in particular was captioned 'The Skylark that did not fly'. (Car is a mid '70s Buick Skylark) Once later read the man who owned it kept it until he died,even after he himself was unable to drive anymore,said it was his 'Good Luck charm'? IIRC he stopped less than 18 inches from going over the edge!!!
I was in the 9th grade when this happened. I was in band and we had used this bridge to attend a band competition in St Pete about 2 months before this happened.

I can't imagine being involved in something so terrifying and tragic, and don't want to try to imagine it. So sad.

I clearly remember when this happened I was 11 years old. Literally 9 Days Later Mount Saint Helens erupted on the 18th which was my birthday
