"5 games that I ~KNOW~ you didn't play!" *immediately cites a game that not only i played, but i designed nearly all the monsters and portraits for* LOL that felt good 😭 (and since i've worked on Beloved Rapture too, I'm in 2 of our 5 picks... 💞💞 )
I can't thank you enough for the love you've shown Beloved Rapture! The devs plan to continue supporting and improving the game through the year. Here's hoping we'll have more to share soon! Best wishes to you in 2025 David :)
Just a suggestion, would you be able to put the game titles in your description whenever you do a video in this format to help us remember them? I see a transcript so idk if that is the same thing but thank u for your content!
The fact that beloved rapture was made with RPG Maker 2003 is insane. I've used it in the past and it cant do any of that stuff so that dev(s) is inanely talented.
Engines can do whatever you want them to, as long as you know how to alter their base mechanics. You can disable the built in stuff in RPG Maker, but it's up to you to build the mechanics you want from scratch. It's why I prefer engines that work more like Legos, where you just take basic pieces and put them together. For something I'm working on, Godot is the lightest and easiest, and I have been able to build the mechanics from scratch without fighting with premade hoo-ha.
I’m definitely going to check out “Beloved Rapture”. This is one of the reasons I love this channel, I would have never known about this game otherwise!
Urgh I really wanna try Beloved Rapture. I am making my own rpg maker game (but with MV) but this is just so impressive. The 2003 version definitely aces on pixel potential and whatever extra engine they’re using - it works!!
I love the lush environments in Beloved Rapture, it really makes you want to explore the world within the game. Amazing list, I'm keen to check out some of these games, they look so good!
I hear you my dude…I’m 44 myself. Been in these trenches since my grandmother picked up Final Fantasy on Nintendo in 1988. Lol…power leveling against Goblins for 36 years…I’m almost certain they tell their young spooky stories of me in forests all over the world. I’ve been on the look for some good Indie rpgs lately too. Picked up Ara Fell the other day. These games you’ve shown look pretty good, I’m gonna check these out too, thanks for that!
I genuinely love how Secret of Varonis captured so many good things from the original FFL trilogy with quality of life upgrades. My only gripe is really some of the bugs present, and how some FFL3 features were not rolled in, like the Beast and Cyborg races. Although I understand these races were unique to FFL3 out of the entire Saga series, but I still personally much prefer the Beast race to the Monster race.
Great video, and I indeed missed all 5 of these fun-looking RPGs last year. Although us here at RPGamer did play/review some of them. BTW, I love that your background is always growing. Love seeing all the wonderful RPG collectible's. keep up the great work amigo~
I know you didn't like Eternights, but I'm kinda enjoying it so far. Just goes to show the lengths I'll play a game if it has a gay romance. Beyond Galaxyland looks amazing, though so that went directly on the wishlist
Hey Dave, omg, the 1st game you said has got me more then interested, next Friday, I'm going to be 40 so I'm defo going to get that game on steam. Thanks for the updates
Ya know, David has mentioned Secret of Varonis about a million times and every time, I’m like meh. Then he mentioned it again for the millionth and one time and now I’m like,….ooh let me try that! 😂
Amazing video like always thanks for the recommendations David I'm so interested in playing floweringsage now. I'm also awaiting your next workout video since I just started going to the gym again 💪
I can't recommend Beastieball enough. It's the best sports RPG I've played, feeling like Pokemon with volleyball battles. Definitely game of the year for me, and a big recommendation.
I used to write text for the time stamps, but then my watch time went way down and the videos all bombed because nobody actually watched the videos. They would pause it on the first second, read the text, and then click off. So please don't accuse me of being lazy, i'm not going to spend eight hours writing a script and then another eight hours editing a video only then be "lazy" with 2 minutes of timestamping.
Thanks for the great list! I haven't heard of a couple of these. Here's my contribution: Wantless: Solace at World's Edge It's a grid-based tactical RPG where you dive into the minds of people who are having "issues." The art is grotesque and the combat is challenging. You can craft your own skills by combining a target type + effect + resource expense, and it has a crazy in-depth passive tree.
I'm a few years older than you at 46, but I only got into jrpgs on the SNES, so I don't have the same nostalgia for NES and Gameboy graphics. Thus I'm turned away by the graphics for Secret of Varonis. I've technically played Beloved Rapture and Secrets of Varonis, but less than an hour each so far. I think I'd at least heard of Flowstone Saga before, but not Beyond Galaxyland.
You right. I haven’t played them yet. They’re still in my backlog to get to as I grind my way through post game Etrian Odyssey hd. 60 max items suuuuuuuuucks.
They all look playable but I don't play on PC and never will therefore never used steam . Probably why it's overlooked sadly . The game boy type RPG looks really fun
Do hacks count? Secret of Mana: Climate Crisis was really cool, since it changed the environments of each area and the order in which you get the mana spirits. Other than that, most of the RPGs I played last year are a LOT older, like Tougi Ou (a bit closer to something like Crusader of Centy, but it does have experience/leveling), Heracles no Eikou 3 and 4, Secret of the Stars (yes, really), GOD, Franken, and the first two Final Fantasy Legends. Tougi Ou stood out in particular, because it visually reminded me of Lagoon, which I love, but played a lot better... not that that's a high bar... Franken's pretty funny, too; someone who's got as impressive a pedigree in JRPGs as yourself will probably get a kick out of it.
Darn some of these look great but all but 1 are not on psn lol i should go back and finish galaxy land i did enjoy it, i dont remember why i stopped playing it tbh lol
Indie developers need to create original art work, they all copy the same influences. They need to move past the 90s. Indies should be original not all the same
Indies are kinda westerns and the arts were bad as they're looking like western that you've never heard of so I decided to play one of 1996 Japanese indie adult jrpg from amateur group for remakes + translate. There are many indie games that I couldn't collect ig

when is your birthday again David? My 43rd is May 19th.
have you managed to find someone to play Secrets of Grindea multiplayer with you? I hate the lack of local coop, online only
I misheard Flowstone Saga as "Flintstones Saga" and immediately imagined a Mario and Luigi style RPG with Fred and Barney lmao.
I could see that as a thing 😳
Dude, that would be awesome lol
I’d play the hell out of that lo
Fred throws a bowling ball like Wakka

Of course! You deserve it for all for putting out such a good game!

@leegaul2161 your right, but Rpgmaker2k3 doesn't even have coding so I only loosely understand how they did any of that stuff
Wow Beloved Rapture looks awesome Never even heard of it. So much stuff gets overlooked these days. Thanks Mr. David
Glad you enjoyed it!!
I've been working a bunch of overtime this week, so I'm glad to finally sit down and catch up on your videos.
Welcome back and thanks so much! I really appreciate you Ban :)
I have bought Beloved Rapture and Beyong Galaxyland based on your recommendations, still have yet to play them though!
Is beloved rapture on the nintendo switch?
I’m definitely going to check out “Beloved Rapture”. This is one of the reasons I love this channel, I would have never known about this game otherwise!
I'm glad you like it! I hope you enjoy it!
Be on the lookout for Kingdoms of the Dump later this year
Beloved Rapture is well recommended. TY.
Indie titles are so underrated!! It’s so cool seeing all of the passion and love they put into their games!
Urgh I really wanna try Beloved Rapture. I am making my own rpg maker game (but with MV) but this is just so impressive. The 2003 version definitely aces on pixel potential and whatever extra engine they’re using - it works!!

Awesome my friend!
Love the FFL3 music. And I can't agree more on Secret of Varonis, it's a wonderful game.
Beloved Rapture was my gem of the year!!! Absolutely loved it!!!
What did you play it on?
Thank you for playing it! So happy you enjoyed! 🎉
@@BelovedRapture it looks awesome
@BelovedRapture Thanks. Hopefully you can make a sequel of some sort in the future! Loved it.
Been bearing the Secrets of Grindea drum for years. Glad to see it gettung some love!
It is such a great game!
There’s a fun Zeldalike called Airoheart that immediately comes to mind when we talk about indies.

Beyond Galaxyland looks SO interesting!!! How unique looking!

Although I understand these races were unique to FFL3 out of the entire Saga series, but I still personally much prefer the Beast race to the Monster race.
Last Dream is one you will like. It's a love letter to Final Fantasy.
Great video. My only suggestion is that the games should be listed in the description of the video.
Funny thing. Got a video recommendation from your vids from years back. Your back drop display got much bigger and nicer and I hardly noticed 👍
Thanks, I've been slowly adding to it over time, haha!
Great video, and I indeed missed all 5 of these fun-looking RPGs last year. Although us here at RPGamer did play/review some of them. BTW, I love that your background is always growing. Love seeing all the wonderful RPG collectible's. keep up the great work amigo~
Thanks so much and it's so cool to have RPGamer watching my channel, yall were my go to site when I was in college!
I know you didn't like Eternights, but I'm kinda enjoying it so far. Just goes to show the lengths I'll play a game if it has a gay romance. Beyond Galaxyland looks amazing, though so that went directly on the wishlist
Beloved Rapture has gay romance as well :)
I loved Secret of Varonis and actually played it here on YT, can't recommend it enough given how fun and customizable the game is.
Love the shirt David! Lookin sharp my dude!
Thanks! It's my favorite shirt! 😄
Wishlisted most of these. Thanks David!
No problem! Hope you enjoy them!
I love Beyond Galaxyland! It give me some Rogue Galaxy vibe 😁
Thanks for the suggestions ❤
No problem, hope you enjoy them!
Love from Belgium 🇧🇪♥️

hi David
Love to hear a Lufia 2 shoutout
Terra Memoria was also a great and overlooked indie rpg
Ya know, David has mentioned Secret of Varonis about a million times and every time, I’m like meh. Then he mentioned it again for the millionth and one time and now I’m like,….ooh let me try that! 😂
I am absolutely picking up flowstone saga now.
Amazing video like always thanks for the recommendations David I'm so interested in playing floweringsage now. I'm also awaiting your next workout video since I just started going to the gym again 💪
Coming soon!
6:28 This is my 2nd favourite game of 2024, fantastic game with great music, it needs a physicalrelease. You lost the bet, you owe me.
I can't recommend Beastieball enough. It's the best sports RPG I've played, feeling like Pokemon with volleyball battles. Definitely game of the year for me, and a big recommendation.
Wow I have never heard of any of these games and they look sweet! Thank you for sharing David. 👍💯
I'm glad you enjoyed them!
Please dont be lazy at typing timestamp, I need a title text not just a number.

I'll have to check that one out!
Keylocker the Cyber punk strategy RPG blew me away with its atmosphere and style.
Great list man
I bought Secrets of Grindea 8 years ago or so and it has a nice roguelike mode. Sadly it went silently on release.
I'm playing old skool RPG. Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle.
There's a lot of games I haven't gotten around to yet. I still need to get bloomtown and beyond galaxyland. Last year was to loaded with good games..
Will have to check them! I only have the last 2. The first 3 are on Pc only?
Love to support indies.
you forgot Scarmonde. I didn't know about Secret of Varonis though.
No thirsting but 43??? Flowstone Saga, Secrets of Grandia and Beloved Rapture look like good times
I recommend The Edge of Allegoria
Hi David! Have you played Drova? cool game that kind of fits with the theme of this video (imho at least). Have a blessed day!
I've got Secret of Varonis in my library, just need the time to play it! Beloved Rapture looks awesome though.
It’s a great game, you’re gonna love it!
So sad these games almost always stay stuck to Pc.
A couple more lesser-known games from last year worth checking out:
Bloomtown and Terra Memoria, have you played them ?
You're right. I didn't know about any of them lol - Thanks D
No problem!
what's the title of the first one ? I can't find it.
The Secret of Varonis

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video!
If I missed any of these, it's only because I probably can't play them on my Android phone. Maybe, I can try to see if they'll work on my laptop.
This might be a very random question but what would your Barbarian name be ?😅🤔
Eh pretty meh list but I really want GalaxyLand. I will say Keylocker and In stars and Time are excellent.
