Tweaking
Balance is what makes JSU the top 1 or 2 band every year. When they are balanced and have good arrangements it’s extremely hard to beat them. There were a few years when they lost the edge they have on balance like in 2014. They were the loudest I had ever heard them but they lacked balance so they didn’t always sound the way jsu is supposed to sound. If they stick to what has made them great over the years they will continue to deliver great performances.

I went to school for music and I understand Jackson State was playing more songs that people knew and they sounded really well but if we’re talking totality of the arrangement of each song SU won over all. It’s easy to play what the crowd knows to get y’all singing with them; it’s something special when SU can play songs you don’t know and you like wow okay SU!

After SNOOZE, this battle was over for Southern. You can tell that the SU band members love to play rap tunes because that is the only time you see a lot of energy from them. You can tell when they are playing a song they don't like because the energy is not there.. I don't know what they have been feeding those students in the BOOM but they are locked in from the beginning until the end of the battle. It has been like that every battle this year. Every band they have faced have started out good and fell off midway through then went totally off the rails at the end of the battle. However, the SBOTS has consistently killed it every week which shows how hard they have worked this entire year. They didn't play harder for bands they really wanted to beat but they gave every band the business. 💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍

Southern had 50 trumpets that day to JSU 32 and JSU trumpet section were sounding better.. Southern had 30 tubas to JSU’s 20 that night and dawg team shined 💪🏾💪🏾

One thing I will say is that I wanna hear more super screamers from jsu trumpets. I heard a few throughout the season, but come THIS season I definitely wanna hear more of them. SU screamers had a slight edge because them mfs was making sure they were being heard lol

Grambling state university, & yea I played trumpet and my brother played percussion

tubas: JSU
JSU trumpets and Btones were way better and clearer than SU all season especially at the botb
I like jsu trumpets and they have shown a lot of improvement over the past couple of years but I still don’t think they are back to peak trump funk yet..SU still has the best trumpet line imo
J State Trumpets and Bass horns were wayyyyyyyyyy better…. Hands down…
SU trumpets skated and overshot every song and cuh w the fade was doing a lot of ghosting 👀
