I got a deep cleaning almost two years ago. It was the best thing ever-my gums have been healthy ever since. Sure, I had to improve my dental routine, but it was sooo worth it.
if you need the deep cleaning, get the deep cleaning! working hard at home is great -- but you won't see significant improvement until the tartar is fully removed by a professional -- and THEN keeping up with home care will keep things stable. hope this helps! you got this!!!
For whoever is seeing this comment if you ever feel too lazy to brush your teeth at night before you go to bed please push through and brush and floss really well. I used to go a couple nights a week without brushing and flossing because I “didn’t feel like it” a couple years ago I went to the dentist for the first time in over 6 years and I had 13 cavities and almost needed 2 root canals. To be honest it was really embarrassing to know how bad my oral hygiene was. I’ve had 10 of those cavities filled since and I’m getting my last 3 done in 2 months. I’m not going to say a filling is the worst thing in the world, but it’s not fun. Ever since then I’ve realized how important it is to brush and floss at least twice a day. So to anybody who doesn’t feel like brushing and flossing please do it anyway even if you’re super tired because it’s not worth having to get a filling.
This actually makes me think of something I've seen in ads on rumble That are basically telling people the dental industry is bad / you don't need to see a dentist. The ad starts off with this AI voice saying something along the lines of "did you know you don't have to go to the dentist for routine cleanings? There is a secret home remedy you can make yourself that will make sure you don't EVER have to see a dentist again, that the government and big pharma don't want you to know about..." And that's around the time when I hit the skip button 😂 I have known adults who unironically believe stuff like that too.
Back when I lived in Naperville, Illinois I went to a dentist who offers IV sedation. He suggested that I use a Phillips Sonicare Electric toothbrush. I bought one and started using it. The brush head was big and I gagged every time I brushed my teeth. I couldn't brush in the back very well. They always suggested to me to come in every 3 months for a cleaning. There's nothing wrong with that (my disabled Uncle goes in for a cleaning every 3 months). But I couldn't fit into my budget, so I declined. My last appointment at their dental office they wanted to do a deep cleaning. I was weary about getting it done. They tried to force the treatment. But I declined. They wanted to talk to family and try to talk me into getting it done. I walked out of the dental office. I admit I was afraid to get it done because I never had a deep cleaning done before. I threw away the Phillips Sonicare Electric toothbrush away and I bought an Oral B Electric toothbrush. I moved out state and waited to go the dentist again until a year later. They kept saying how well I brush my teeth. It's been 12 years and a deep cleaning has never been brought up to me again. But if I ever do need a deep cleaning I won't be afraid to get it done. Going to a dental office you trust really helps and also watching videos about it on TH-cam helps.
@@CapeCodBelle I felt I had to walk out because I was going to move out of state anyway. I thought before getting a deep cleaning done, I would try the Oral B toothbrush and luckily that worked. He was clear about his dislike for Oral B. He thought the several cavities I had were due to the Oral B toothbrush (that it wasn't a good product), but the problem was low vitamin d levels. Luckily, I found a dentist where I moved to who offers IV sedation who I trust. I understand dentists make recommendations and I follow their advice. Sometimes it doesn't work out very well. I should not have thrown away the Oral B toothbrush I was using before going to that dentist. I think if I would have kept it and used it appointments would have been a lot better.
If you are worried for the needle for the lidocaine, it looks worse than it actually is. You could ask them to use topical numbing first where the needle goes. I just had mine done and that is what they did for me
Im having a deep cleaning tomorrow, im really scared, i wanted to avoid it so I guess now im glad im doing it but im so incredibly scared about it hurting and stuff. And I know they give an injection or whatever to numb it but ive panicked and ran out of an operation before after being numbed cause I felt I could still feel things. Im quite worried about tomorrow as a result thinking I may feel stuff, but also. Im worried about the whole "under the gumline" thing. Am I right to be scared?
Listen my gums were so inflamed and puffy I’m not gonna bs you it’s gonna hurt depending on how much build up you have in your gum pockets. But afterwards your gums are gonna go back to being pink and normal It’s worth it trust me and I was terrified of the dentist! Better then getting gum disease in the long Brodie! Here’s a little secret brush your teeth with sensodine toothpaste prior to your operation it’s gonna help ease the pain a bit.
For life! Once you have an initial Deep Cleaning, you will then be expected to come back every 3 or 4 months for "Maintenance Periodontal Cleanings" .That's why they push for them so much rather than the regular "Prophylactic" Cleanings which are usually covered in full twice yearly by your Medical insurance.
Can you make a video about gum grafts and do they work? How are they done how long does it take? I was told I need a gum graft but I'm scared and it is expensive too
@marjn1030 I know about health nutrition I don't need junk food no crap no process junk Don't preach to me about diet please My question is about gum graphs Unless your dentist you don't have the answer
@TeethTalk Aww sounds scary!!! I just watched the video I'm glad I have a better idea but it still sounds very scary!! But my periodontist said I have to have it done or I can lose my tooth 😭
What if my dental hygienist says I have minimal bone loss + 4-5mm pockets yet she only scheduled a regular dental cleaning? It can also be a country based thing. I live in the Netherlands and maybe they don't do them as often here. Upon doing research, I really think I nead SRP. Wish you were my dental hygienist.
Well worth it, instead of losing teeth or, like she said, it affecting other organs in your body! Bottom line is you will only need it if you have neglected your teeth for quite some time.
yes! it's not a better cleaning! it's done on a needs-based approach! here's my video that further explains -- hope this helps: th-cam.com/video/09vaxDlS7bY/w-d-xo.html
@@TeethTalk Thank you! I was also wondering I have this white line inside my mouth probably because of grinding teeth. I am getting night guard soon and have been wearing retainer but it doesn't seem to improve. Is it something I should worry about?
Hi Whitney, was wondering if you can do a video of teeth whitening not harming your teeth? Many people think whitening harms the enamel. Was wondering if you can make a video of how it actually whitens and how the enamel rods soak it up lol 😝or whatever the technical term is.
yessss! here's a video of mine that should help: th-cam.com/video/NXieiI7mATk/w-d-xo.html but I'll def have to make a more detailed one soon :) until then, hope this helps!
What I don't understand is my teeth feel loose which they aren't been to the dentist 2 times they told me i could be night grinding but they saw no damage but they said I could be grinding which the dentist is probably right I already have a night gaurd from the dentist had it for a week my teeth still has a loose sensation but it will go away I hope. And I have terrible teeth anxiety I did grind my teeth when I was younger so I am possibly grinding teeth And I feel like I feel my teeth moving when I chew And I have been to like the dentist 2 times they said I had no looseness I do touch my teeth alot to see if they are okay I hope that dosnt cause looseness I can't wait till the looseness gose away had this for weeks making my health anxiety ten times worse lol
LOL if you dont know how to take care of your teeth , you will need a deep cleaning every other month and your gum recession from it will be so bad you might as well not do it LOL
Decided to delete my comments and unsub since you couldn't get back to me with requested/pertinent info, rather, only if I compliment you... what a shame & totally disappointed.

Be careful, some dentists will push for deep cleanings because they cost one thousand dollars and more. It is a money maker.
Would you be able to do a video about cleaning stained bridges and implants as a dental hygienist?
Do they have a non invasive treatment to clean your teeth now instead of using needles

How often can you do deep cleaning?

Do deep cleanings hurt😟
Nothing like spending a fucking grand just to scale your teeth
Well worth it, instead of losing teeth or, like she said, it affecting other organs in your body!
Bottom line is you will only need it if you have neglected your teeth for quite some time.
Better the $1000 then the long-term consequences of not doing it.
Should they numb you with a injection for deep cleanings?
Yes
So this is not something patients asked for but our dentist will suggest it in check ups?
Dentist/hygienist will look at gun pocket depths, amount of build up and bone loss to see if it is needed. It's not something a patient would ask for.
