  • A quick montage showcasing the crazy terrain that a Zipfy sled is capable of tearing up!
The first clips are from Big Slide Mountain in the Adirondack High Peaks region. The trail dropped 2,300 feet in 2.1 miles, and the sled performed perfectly. Even with lower than usual snow conditions, we were able to steer easily around the exposed rocks and trees.
The second set of clips came from Hackensack Mountain in the Southern Adirondacks. Though it is only about an 800 foot climb over a mile-long trail, the summit had some of the best powder conditions we've ever seen, and the trail is short enough to take several runs. The mountain is also rather wide, so there are plenty of options for the descent.
    Music:

Huge props to the artist for making such a killer track!

***** I've had mine 3 years, and have given it some serious abuse, and it's holding up very well. Obviously the bottom is scratched up a bit, but still slides well and I sometimes put wax on the bottom to go even faster. I have had some serious impacts on these, from big drops to full-speed crashes into rocks, and the sled just takes it. If you owned 3 sleds, that should last you your entire life of hardcore sledding :)

Thanks for sharing this. I have had a Zipfy for 10 yrs now and love it. Its easy to snowshoe up with the sled and then sled down with the snosh. slung over my back with a bungee strap. The only drawback to this sled at least for me is in deep pow the front just ploughs in and stops unless the gradient is really steep. How do you manage this?

***** Thanks! You definitely should upgrade! It's not that hard at all to fit on. The seat is actually wider than you'd think. The store I work at sells them and we sell about a hundred each season, and all shapes and sizes of people come in. You should be fine!

***** We always hike up. I don't think any ski resorts in the area would allow you to sled down, unfortunately. Unless you know the ski patrol well enough! We have backpacks that are designed to carry snowboards/snowshoes, and the strap system works perfectly for the sled. We snowshoe up carrying the sled on the pack, then take off the snowshoes and switch them for the ride down :)

***** The pack most of us use is the Wintergreen Pack, made by Eastern Mountain Sports. Sadly, the bag is discontinued, but there are still a decent amount floating around on clearance. You'd just have to call some stores and order it over the phone if you liked it. Another great option is the Osprey Kode series, preferably the 30L size. If you already have a pack that has 2 compression straps on each side, all you need is 2 pieces of rope (1.5ft long) and 2 small carabiners. I'll try to make a short video demoing the bag I have and how to make it work with other bags. I'll let you know when I do, probably on Friday!
