    Hey daddy, go to the hardware store and pickup a 1 inch or so pvc pipe cut to your waist size then when you plant beans no more bending over just sit pipe where you want it and drop beans in pipe and they will slide down the pipe where you want them and woop tee do there you go, no more back ache. This reminds me of my grandparents planting and canning every vegetable they could and it was so good. This tradition stopped with my parents generation for some bs reason; I'm learning from you and others to teach my kids to stop relying on industrial food and grow food like God meant for us to. Our own natural health food.

    • @OldAlabamaGardener
      @OldAlabamaGardener  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you and welcome to my videos. Yes, there was or is a generation that didn't grow a garden or can food. And now the children of that generation, who are now adults, wish they had learned how to garden and can home grown food. That is why I make and upload videos with so much detail, so you can copy me, grow some of your own vegetables and can them. I am 80 years old, so I grew up with parents that did garden and can food. Get you a nail apron to tote your beans in and use a length of PVC pipe that is comfortable for you to hold for your height, drop your beans down the pipe and move on down. I've had back surgery and saw someone use this method so I gave it a try. Sure does save the back.

    Great "how-to" video from start to finish. I have been canning for 30+ years and never knew ten jars would fit in the bottom of the canner. Two extra jars per batch cuts down on the number of batches over time. One interesting note about kidney beans is that they are toxic if eaten before cooked, so don't ever think of grinding them into flour and tasting the dough before the item is cooked.

    • @OldAlabamaGardener
      @OldAlabamaGardener  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Linda for the tip about toxic kidney beans. And yes, two extra jars in the canner adds up when I am canning over 100 pints of some vegetables. Thanks for watching. I will be uploading more videos as the summer goes on. Be sure to subscribe.

      No, they are at the "Shell out" stage. And no, they don't dry more because I canned them. To have dry beans I would leave them on the plant longer, until the outer hull begins to get brown and dry. Then harvest them and bring them in the house to finish drying. I am doing that now and will make a video on it later. Thanks for watching.

If it is a determinate type, then it may not produce any more tomatoes. If it is an Indeterminate type, then it could produce more tomatoes if it is properly taken care of. You still have about 90 days before a possible frost, so you have time to grow more things. It won't be long before you and I can plant fall crops. I like to leave them on the vine until the outer hull gets a little dry. Then I bring them inside the house to fully dry.
