You’re innocent until proven guilty. That is so sad, don’t let jealous people into your life even if it’s family.

Right? I hate to admit it, but by the end I was thinking “OP deserves whatever these awful people throw at him.” He should have told his family to get lost a long time ago, like, before the reunion even happened long time ago. His desire to earn the regard of his family is causing harm to his wife and daughter. They should be his first priority; screw the rest of ‘em.

@@BruinPhD2009 Honestly, the victim blaming here is terrible. It's no different than asking a woman dealing with DV why she didn't leave the guy. Emotional and mental a* is the main part in any a* relationship that causes the person to stick around, mostly the gaslighting. As much as OP tries to claim his parents weren't/aren't outright a*, they are, 100% they are.

My mom didn’t speak to my aunt, her sister, for 15 years it was over a misunderstanding about my grandmothers house when she died. It took my cousins overdose and death for me to get them speaking again. They had 5 years of speaking before my aunt passed away. All of those years wasted for a misunderstanding.

The same thing happened to me in kindergarten.
I had a friend in my class named Bella and her cubby was right next to mine and she brought her lunch to school one day and before lunch it disappeared and everybody thought that I stole it bc our cubbies were right next to each other. The teachers made me stand up in front of the class and “admit” that I “did” it. I kept trying to tell everybody that I was innocent but they never believed me.
Then one day in 3rd grade I was walking around the playground at school with Bella and my friend Anna. And Bella asked me if I was the one who stole her lunchbox in kindergarten and I said no it was me. She then said that maybe it was one of our other classmates in kindergarten whose name I forgot. I just know that it was a girl. And she can be a little bit of a trouble maker sometimes. But back in kindergarten there was another kid in the class who was a real troublemaker and his name was Braxton. And his cubby was also right next to Bella’s but everybody blamed me instead. Idk why. It was honestly really annoying and it still is to this day. On the bright side I’ve changed schools and I don’t have to deal with that again. I hope that something like that never happens again

Make no mistake. People do not change. OP has seen the true colors of his family and it's dark. Move, change your phone numbers.
Become unavailable. My wife and I had to do to protect our two boys from our toxic family. We simply stopped going to family gathering.
No holidays, no birthdays or casual visits. I have found little value in these relationships. Often being more trouble than they are worth.

Wow, that was intense! The most dramatic part was when Linda suddenly accused the narrator and Emma of stealing her expensive purse. The situation got even worse when Sarah joined in, criticizing them for living beyond their means. It must have been really painful to face such unfair accusations from family members and feel unsupported. This really highlights the struggles of maintaining family relationships when trust and fairness are questioned.
