I absolutely love that you are faithful to your own reading tastes - it's so difficult to find a diverse set of books discussed on book tube. As someone who loves literary fiction, and can't really get into romance or fantasy, you're definitely one of the only booktubers whose suggestions I might actually read.
Thank you so, so much! I try to think of novels that would be most beneficial to my day to day life and conversations I might have. There's quite a few great literary fiction booktubers-- I was thinking to make a video about all who I watch/suggest, etc., if that is something you'd like to see!
I feel the exact same. I am finding that I'm not into fantasy as much as I used to be so I'm preferring lots of literary fiction, weird fiction, and some horror (usually paranormal or domestic).
The algorithm put your video in my recommendations and judging by the comments and the book selections, I think I found my crowd of literary fic and film lovers. LOL, subscribing. White Teeth is my FAAAAAAAAAVORITE Zadie Smith.
I am a diehard Elfriede Jelinek (Ell-free-duh Yell-i-neck) fan!! I wrote my thesis on a comparative reading of The Piano Teacher and Hurricane Season. Not enough people encounter her work. Super odd and challenging and very against the typical sense of the novel as a form of entertainment. Extreme social critique on so many levels. A hellish sense of humor. Love love love. And you can't go wrong with the Haneke adaptation (or any Haneke whatsoever), even if it is a very different beast.
I love, LOVE to hear this. I think this novel has the potential to be a favorite of mine this year (I say this without having started reading it), BUT knowing the content and mystique surrounding it, I have no doubt I'll love it.
"And I will watch the movie after I finish this... because I've been putting it off for the longest time because I knew I wanted to read the book-" me, a cinephile and bibliophile, in a sentence! And coincidentally enough I did get The Piano Teacher book and movie last year but haven't consumed them, YET!
I love John Updike's "The Centaur", I best through it in a day or two. Surreal moments of interwoven greek mythology, with trudging winter scenes in rural northeast. Beaten down middle class vibes.
The vegetarian was wild. I remember reading it when I was still in High School because I was a vegetarian and I thought it would be fun. Was not expecting what that book gave me and I'm pretty sure most of it flew right over my young little juvenile head
Loved this video oh so much! Thank you for being youuuuu. I laughed so much. I also feel your pain with upstairs neighbors. They don't scream, their floors are just the most creaky. I lose my mind daily 🙃🥹
Ooh so many people loved The Seas last year I have got it myself. Although I feel like I might have read it years ago. We shall see when I head back. The Bluest Eye was my first read of 2023 and it was f*cking amazing. Just like your theme tune. Please pop that on Spotify and iTunes. The demon screams made me LOL
HAHAH honestly, fair game to lose track of novels read. I feel like 2023 is the year for The Bluest Eye?? I'm ready to read it in Feb., I think! DEMONSSSS
I read the Bluest Eye twice last year (for uni, but also for pleasure) and it is phenomenal and devastating! The Vegetarian is so interesting, some things didn't work for me but what did *really* worked!

Always excited to see a new video, to hear about new books and to know your lip and nail colour (yes, with a "u", I'm Canadian). Thank you for this gift!
an old teacher i was highkey in love with gave me her copy of a moveable feast. i loved it but it's definitely no plot just vibes. also i will just say about crime and punishment, a good translation can make all the difference. but easily a top favorite book of mine.

I feel almost unique now, as I was completely indifferent to White Teeth. Thought it was fine, entertaining even, and then about two thirds through I put it down and never felt like picking it back up. Left it on the stoop of my apartment when I moved, with my page still marked off. Hope someone is enjoying it ☺️
Some people think marathon running is a feat, or Climbing Mount Everest. But I think reading a 500 page novel and stopping it halfway through is the most impressive of all.
I just found your channel and I’m loving it here 🤍 the way you talk about books is so captivating and passionate and idk if anyone’s ever told you this but your voice reminds me a lot of Winona Ryder’s 👀 I bought a whopping 7 books to kick off this reading year and I’m probably most excited for “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”🐦
Thank you! I've actually gotten the Winona comment before and I'm so flattered. I love her. And, let me know your thoughts on "Caged Bird." I'd love to pick that up within the next year
I was JUST looking at ‘The Vegetarian’ an hour ago - so I’ll take your video as a sign to buy it😂 Also, I got ‘The Escape Artist’ over the holidays and it’s truly amazing!
I don't like movie-image covers of source material books either, but when Isabelle Huppert is on that cover, you gotta do it. Your finger nail polish looks amazing juxtaposed against all these book covers!
"Crime and Punishment" starts off with quite a low-life slog that should grab your attention. Then it starts getting slower. Then it ends and concludes very strong. Did you happen to notice the season "The Vegetarian" takes place in? Weird question, I know, but I am a highly seasonal reader.
Oh wow, thank you for the timeline. That actually helps a lot to know how to pace myself. Not entirely sure about the season of "The Vegetarian," but I'm going to pick it up after my current read, so I'll let you know!
Wonderful video as always, my love. You have inspired me to get to read my Toni Morrison collection this year. Keep serving face, hair, brains, and comedy.

Give me the honest thoughts on Seductive Poison! So depressing. I still think about that book. I listened to another audiobook about cults this month and it further destroyed me.
The Bluest Eye is so good! Broke my heart. Since you enjoyed Knut Hamsun so much you might want to try another norwegian classic this year. I would recommend Sigrid Undset! She won the nobel prize for Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy and The Master of Hestviken tetralogy. Kristin Lavransdatter is most popular, but The Master of Hestviken is the best one.

I've had Crime and Punishment on my shelf for over 3 years but still haven't had the courage to get into it hahaha

The ‘movie image book cover’ is so relatable😂. I just hate anything to do with movies made out of literature. Maybe it’s just me but I just can’t get over my head. For the same reason, I have immense guilt for not reading some of the best classic to this day: Pride and Prejudice, Great Gatsby, Romeo and Juliet, and the lists go on. Nonetheless, I still buy them though I have yet to read any of them😢. Great content. Subbed instantly❤
Oh, there are so many novels I have yet to read and sometimes I think it's better to read them a little later in life. Some classics I read when I was younger went right over my head, so I anticipate reading them again soon. There's always time! : )))

Where on this sweet Earth can I also get 4 books for $2?
haha! Gotta hit the thrift!
Crime and Punishment 🤌
I can't wait to get into it, baby
If you're feeling generous I would love to know the thrift shop lol
Totally willing to share! If you're ever in Greenwich, NY it's a small thrift store called Faerydale. Located in an old Kmart style building
@@AnaWallaceJohnson Thank you so much :)
Ana I crave for that
that ‘autographed copy’ sticker is obnoxiously large lol.
!!!! literally screaming "I'm UNIQUE!" I haven't even check the autograph yet lmaoo
You hurl back book to damage them
The ‘movie image book cover’ is so relatable😂.
where is this road where people just dump their books ??
lmaooo NYC is full of random roadside finds, novels included
ugh I also HATE when they use still images on book covers, I think that's ghetto af
lolllll it's even worse when it has a Netflix stamp on it. woof
Baby got books! 💖 I clicked on this video so fast, I am now holding the new world record for subscriber reactions. ⏱
And then out of nowhere you held up a book by Elfriede Jelinek and I almost fell from my sofa. Woman, prepare yourself for a ride! She's the most famous and notorious Austrian writer. Also very well known for the plays based on her works. I really recommend reading a bit about her as a person too.
ILYSM, baby!!! And I am totally going to check out more interviews with her. I started to watch a few, but I kind of want to go into the book blind and then do my research. I didn't know there were plays surrounding her works! Thanks for info!!!
