Yeah that was a 3 and out I believe with the score 24 - 20 and less than 4 minutes left in the game. Pisses me off how bad the O line is couldn't protect Miller Moss at all. Had USC scored at least a field goal the game is over.
If we had run the ball three times, it would have forced Michigan to use their time outs and abandon the running game and resort to passing which they couldn’t do.
When are we going to ever hold Coach Henson accountable for the OL lack of performance? Every time we had the ball you knew that Miller was not going to have enough time to throw it accurately. Today’s OL performance was embarrassing 😳
@@boymeetstaco8733Because that’s the logical point to make major adjustments in a game because you have time to actually sit with the players and talk through new strategy. I get the frustration but this isn’t a Madden video game. Comments like this make me realize how few fans actually played football in IRL to a decent level. It’s difficult to make major adjustments and get 11 people all on the same page in the middle of a drive, it just doesn’t work like that.
I’ve been saying it all year, Branch isn’t polished enough to be featured so much. Just doesn’t finish routes and he’s not crisp. Even when a pass is completed to him it’s never in stride.. tells me his route is slightly off, not Millers pass.
Gentry by far is the best player on the team. He was insane. Tackles, sacks, punched fumbles, fumble recoveries, tackles for loss. How dare they let that dude down.
Speak clearly Jayrod, how dare riley let that dude down. I commented after the Utah-S game how riley and his side of the ball were the weak link on this team. riley proved me correct damn it, I didn't want to be right. Thanks, Gabe, for an honest account. Three plays for 157 yards out of the 291 total leaves 42 carries for 137 yards for a 3.26 ypc is not bad. But those three long runs just underscored the fact that we still need to focus on tackling, maybe adding in some grip-strengthening drills so they can grab the jersey while wrapping their arms around the ball carrier? That WEAK attempt at tackling by Humphrey on that final drive brought out all of the nightmares from the Grinch years…ouch!😢
This is why I don’t get excited about every 5 star receiver that commits. It starts in the trenches, end of story. How do we lose to a team that could only run.
Michigan's Defense stepped up and they ran the ball well. I do agree that it starts in the trenches. We have to recruit Top OL & DL recruits. Michigan scored on 4th & Goal, it came down to the wire. Props to Michigan from an SC fan. ✌️

That was the worst OL performance I’ve seen in two decades of following USC. It doesn’t matter how good your skill players are if you can’t throw the ball.
Absolutely 💯 it was even worse than the game where coach Helton lost 3 QBs in one game because all Henson needed to do was make one simple protection adjustment but he never did
@magnamater4754 I think it should also be acknowledged Michigan has a very very good DL. The SC OL did get abused in pass pro but it's not like they were getting smoked by some G5 team.
I think we were too slow and dead the first half. We looked like Utah state. But I think despite losing we looked good second half. Those three runs killed us. I still think we will have a great season
This game takes me back to the epic battles of Michigan and Ohio State. This game was an absolute war. It was a shame that either team would have to loose this one. Both Michigan and USC should hold their head up high. They left it all on the field. -Michigan fan.
Agreed it was pretty obvious USC’s OL wasn’t going to be able to just straight up run the ball on this front 7. And Lincoln seemed like he was out to prove a point and try and force it. Once they got the passing game going the run opened up a bit more, but it would’ve been nice if they’d played to their offensive strength sooner.

The reason Ramsey couldn’t help Humphrey with the tackle on that last big play is because Humphrey was swinging his legs around him in a circle forcing his teammates to back off or hesitate in pursuit but Lynn should have known better than to put him in a game where tackling is a priority

Says he won’t blame refs then blames refs. It’s not kick catch interfere if he’s not actually trying to catch the ball, it lands up at the top of the screen nowhere near the player, he’s trying to bluff the punt coverage. They missed offsides and holding on USC, officiating was bad both ways.
Michigan fan here and I must say what a 1st Big10 game for you guys. Some advice for being in the Big10 would be to funnel all frustrations towards oho state lol because if you beat them more than once they will have the NCAA actually enforce grey area rules that every program uses against you. They will even hire private investigators to follow your teams coaches around 😂 but anyways...USC played a great game I thought. Was honestly expecting y'all to kick our azz but our run game has been dangerously solid for years and we still have remnant's of our defense of last year. I think after a few adjustments USC will be much more potent.
I think the guys played good the defense just had 3 bad plays that killed us but the offense was not where it should be LR didn't call a great game which we needed tough loss but we will be ok
This is the Urban Meyer philosophy. He says that in college football, you can’t reliably sustain drives. You need explosive plays. That’s what Michigan did.
This L hurt a lot but overall I’m still very encouraged with this team. They played great physical defense for 95% of the snaps just shitty that the other 5% resulted in 3 explosive runs & 2 TDs. Ramsey is a great safety but him not gang tackling on that last run is ultimately what killed us. If D plays how they did today, especially in the 2nd half team still has a great chance to make the playoffs. Offensively the OL & WR’s need to step up & live up to their talent. I think Branch needs to be used like Tavon Austin not just a WR. I still think Lincoln Riley is a great play caller overall, even though there were some frustrating calls especially the TE to the flat passes. The first half runs up the middle were dumb at the moment but led to Woody having some great runs in the 2nd half. That trick play would have been a great call putting us in scoring position if the defender didn’t make a great play & tip the pass. Also, THE REFS WERE FUCKING AWFUL! It’s not just the missed calls but how they directly led to points or taking away points. But still see us going 10-2 FIGHT ON! ✌🏻

Your defense just had to focus on the run and we’re dead. Your coaches blew the play calling. Your team played with heart, you are superior to us, and our QB situation is a nightmare. 12 yards in the second half prior to the last drive. That is a disgraceful team. You were unfortunate today but we have to live with no QB. Congratulations to the heart that USC showed. Our offensive coach and play calling suck, and your coaches play calling sucked. @@doctordetroit4339Hello Doctor. You are absolutely correct but USC stopped us for an entire half, 12 yards, except for the last drive. I have no idea how that could happen and would be so upset with the USC coaching staff. Great take by you.
Michigan is still finding itself after huge losses to the NFL, but if you watched them last year this was text book of how they took over games last year. Against Penn State, Maryland, ○hio, and Alabama. Michigan is clearly not that team this year but my point is, this is what they do.
Michigan fan here. Weird game. Michigan completely dominated the first half. Then USC completely dominated the second half with a couple of exceptions that doomed them. And I agree with you on the officiating. There was Michigan bias and I didn't like it.
Thank you for being honest. That officiating display doesn't excuse the tackling and terrible playcalling or lack of audibling out of plays. It definitely played a huge role though. However good teams overcome that.
I'm a michigan fan. And the refs were horrible all game. Missed several big calls for both teams, but ultimately probably hurt USC more. It looked like USC is the better team right now. But Michigan has talent on their offense, and if they can figure something out they could be a competitor by the end of the year.
Refs allowed 2 facemasks on Moss. Bottom line if we stopped that stupid long run at the end we would have had it. The refs were terrible… multiple times running out of time and letting the play go
Michigan fan here since 85, I was at the game and you have to understand it was a classic!! This season is a testing game for teams coming to the "Big 10". I honestly believe that within the next 2-3 seasons, you might be a consistent member at the table as a blue blood should. Welcome to the Big 10!!!!
Well, at least the Michigan fans were nice. I swear, Lincoln is a choke artist. 4 minutes left to play and you call back to back screen passes? Run the damn ball and eat the clock! Also, tf is up with Bear Alexander? The only play he was in was the busted tackling that lead to the GW TD. This dude ain't it.
Did you miss most of the game where the OL struggled to protect the QB and Moss kept having to pick himself up off the turf? Throwing the ball downfield is predicated on having time in the pocket for the longer routes to developed. When your OL is so poor that free rushers are coming in completely untouched to the QB it makes it a lot harder to get that downfield passing going.
@@DPMixing When they used tight ends to protect, it helped out and Miller was able to pass the ball. The o-line play has deteriorated the longer Henson is the coach. Riley should start looking for a new OL coach right now. Henson has the title of OC, so he should be better than this.
You can only throw at Will Johnson so many times before he makes you pay. And Michigan gives extra help to the other side of the field. It's no coincidence that USC threw for 2 TDs after Johnson went out with an injury.
Gabe, Outstanding synopsis. You checked every box. My feelings exactly. The truth hurts. Hope the coaching staff takes your list and takes immediate and decisive action. The play calling really shocked me, when we had success we protected with 6 or 7 and for whatever reason we just stopped, and we could have put the game away rushing the ball in our last drive. The one route pass plays/screens over and over had Miller throwing the ball into the ground or for no gain. Lincoln has some explaining to do.
100% spot on with every take. I will say in defense of the defense, Lincoln needed to help them out, they were on the field a long time, cracks will show against any D that's on the field that long.
The lead ref was a PAC-12 ref last year. Also, on the pick-6, it was the same play that they ran against Utah St. It was also almost picked off. The DB dropped it. Millers stares that particular play down and tips it off.
Some of the play calling had me scratching my head. That first half was bad but played better in the second half. Props to Blue 🔵 you played tough and stepped up. Fight On ✌️

@@Jleed989 you got one bad call that benefited SC? lol. Fair. Not to mention that was a judgment call. Horse collar, delay of game on 4th and 1, face mask, face mask, helmet to helmet are not.
Zach branch is not a good WR, also I argued with rusty last season, Riley needs to have different formations and formations under center. We are too fucking vanilla on offense.
I agree on the part he is not a good receiver yet. He works best when he can catch a pass or field a ball with space around him. He can then sprint away from his defenders. Slot, laterals, end around are a few plays he would excel at.
We still have a lot to work on, especially in the trenches. O-line got out worked. Defense didn’t get help, spent too much time on the field and we saw the results on the last drive with the bad tackles and the final goal line drive. Any L is a bad one, but if you do get one, is early in the season especially conference play. We gotta regroup and make adjustments just like UM. Still believe we can make a run the rest of the season. FightOn…✌🏽
Couch Lincoln, Riley one adjustment he could've made was to roll Miller outside the pocket to get Miller some time to throw the football . Michigan Defensive Line was tough. USC Front played great and the Corners and Safeties played a game today. Three miss tackles all on 4th down the Safeties come with force and fill the hole and make one play. Michigan won the game they made the plays in the end and it was a great game. "FIGHT ON"
You nailed it pretty good. It was a team loss across the board. Offense could have won it, defense could have won it, coaching could have won it. Instead, they all took part in losing the game to a one dimensional Michigan team. Texas blew this team out of the water, so that is why USC has to reassess its expectations. Two things that I want to see next week: 1. Mason Cobb benched 2. Jayden Maiava share time with Miller Moss
I have to defend Miller Moss as a Michigan fan. I can not remember a quarter back getting hammered that many times and not ending up in the emergency ward at the local hospital. If I was Miller Moss I would figure out how to get picked up by Michigan in the portal. We could use a great man!
The refs definitely had money on Michigan but let's be real, Riley is a choke artist. How do you fail to stop a team that can't throw a football???? The play in the trenches is the result of recruiting almost exclusively 3 stars on both lines.
Their were egregious no calls that went against Michigan too. How many times did USC not get called for what was clearly a false start? I counted at least 4 that weren't called. Not to mention one of Orji's passes the WR was interfered with the entire route. Were their missed call against Michigan? Of course. But they aren't the reason USC lost. Just like if Michigan lost, it wouldn't have been the missed calls against USC.
@@Jon.A.Scholt 2 of the Michigan scores were possible because the man who was supposed to make the tackle was getting bear hugged right in front of the ref.

What infuriates me the most is better coaching could have prevented the loss against Michigan. If the O-line isnt working, where’s the quick passed and reads? What the hell was Lincoln’s play calling , especially in the first half? It just felt like a disaster that I can’t just blame the players for… rebuilding year unfortunately
Great stuff as always! To think o-line played terrible, three points at halftime, missed calls and only lost by 3 to the best defense SC will play this year in very last minute of the game. SC will rebound and be contending.
Well said on all accounts! About Branch…why is he fair catching a KICK OFF at the 5 yard line? He’s not a dude in college! Why are we passing on the last offensive series when we should be running and killing the clock. Here’s the worst part…we had 2 weeks to game plan. I think if you watch the Texas game..they ran away from the tackles! Unreal man!! O line played like a dumpster fire!
Branch fair catching was maddening. Maybe punters and kickers know how to kick it now so it bounces backwards instead of rolling into the end zone? He should put his heels on the 10 yd line and let anything behind him go.
@@Privateers1-g1q casuals go on ESPN and search up stats people who know and played the game can tell he's not a factor in most games and teams don't even have to game plan for him. 0 touchdowns in last 12 games but yeah tell me how he's a factor. I see a lot of bandwagon fans jumping off boat. Get gone! USC lost the game for sure. But it was a road game against a defense that has the strength where are offense is weak. One pick 6 or missed tackle literally determined the game. All off season said if USC can go 2-2 vs LSU, Michigan, PSU, and ND it will be a success. So far USC is 1-1.
Funny enough they can most likely beat Penn State. If you can hang with Michigan, which they very much did, they can certainly beat PSU and ND. I do agree though 2-2 is a success with those 4 teams.
I've been telling you for years that USC needed to make Chris Petersen an offer he couldn't refuse. This Lincoln Riley clown knows nothing about pass protection. Miller Moss is a statue
I never thought that this team was a National Title contender. However, I did think that it was a potential conference title contender, and an absolute playoff team. I still think they will make the playoffs. Michigan kicked our butts in that first half (hats off to them) but we responded. We had the game in hand and all we needed to do was run time out on offense and play defense. LR goes 3 and out but even still we had them at their own ten and the defense fell asleep. Talk about a perfect storm, smh. In conclusion, Michigan man handled us for an entire half, Bad play calling by LR, 3 busted defensive plays made up the majority of Michigan’s rushing yards, a pick 6, Hansen’s inability to coach up the offensive line, subpar WR play, Branch is showing that he’s just not that good, and terrible officiating gets us the L. Not the end of the world but certainly disappointing. Back to the drawing board.
Weird game...bad play calling, bad run defense, bad o-line play, and average WR play but we still hung around. This team has heart and with our weaknesses getting exposed...this coaching staff can adjust. We are on the right track
Some may dispute this, but go back and take a really hard look at this: Miller Moss wears concrete shoes. He is completely frozen in a 6 foot box and is unable to evade any pressure. Michigan's secondary is awful and if Moss had done any scrambling, USC would have won by 20 points. Just count all the passes that were tipped or knocked down by Michigan D lineman. There is also a slow release that led to the pick 6. Sure, I'm spoiled by 2 years of watching Caleb Williams, but in todays college game, Moss is not an acceptable first string quarterback, and much of the blame for the loss to Michigan is on Moss and Moss alone.
USC’s defense looked good on every play but 3 . Their tackling was so much improved from last year. I’m a Michigan fan but I think SC has a better chance to make the playoffs than Michigan.
Fair commentary. Aside from all the shoulda coulda wouldas, this was a measurement game. So, how does SC stack up now a member of the Big 10 or 12 or 16 or whatever? Answer: Same as they did in the erstwhile Pac 12. Middle of the pack and hoping to stay there. Still, not very competitive against ranked competition and the "A" game still doesn't travel. Yeah, Michigan was No. 18 and couldn't throw BUT a lotta guys on the field won the national title last year particularly on the defensive line. As such, Michigan BY FAR had the better defense and in my mind made the Wolverines a prohibitive favorite especially at home. Continuing from last year, SC still has many many issues IN ADDITION to a modestly improved 'sometimes there sometimes not' defense. The commentary succinctly runs through most of this litany. But one, especially alarming, issue remains with the coaching. We're still wondering if these guys, Riley included, really know what "H" they're doing. What we do know and have known for sometime now is: IF the game is close, it's late, and it's up to the defense to protect and preserve a lead... SC's is in VERY SERIOUS trouble. PS: Remember that mantra from the Pete Carroll era? FINISH! Riley would do well to bring that one back again.
Two things. When you talk about the refs, I have a brother who was swearing through the whole game that SC was holding all the time and the refs wouldn't call it, at all. He says Michigan would have slaughtered you guys if the refs had called all the holds you pulled! So, I think this is a perspective issue. But I think there may be a difference in old Pac 10 and Big 10 mentality when it comes to physicality. Big 10 football has a smash mouth aspect to it, especially teams like Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, Iowa. This was a baptism for SC into the Big 10. I had the impression that a fair number of your players were just...knocked out of the game by the physicality. Against a second tier team, like Northwestern or Purdue, you'd have had a better chance. But welcome to the Big 10. Playing in the Big 10 is, eventually, going to call for changing how you build your teams, how you recruit for them, and how you develop them. What I really LIKE about this video commentary is the way it recognizes a lot of the good qualities of Michigan's defense.
Bruh, the reason USC could even score in the 3rd quarter was because the Refs let their oline hold the entire quarter. Not to mention when Orji recieved a helmet to helmet hit so bad his head almost d8d a 180. The Refs were horrible on both sides.
@@mrkennady you are delusional. It was adjustments that was the reason. Including moving our online positions. The only points Michigan actually earned was the pick 6. Everything else was tainted with holding calls, 2 face mask. Horse caller tackle. Illegal blind side blocking.
I feel this game was a good barometer of where USC is in all aspects of the game, including coaching and scheme. OL was way overmatched and in the end you can’t coach strength and maturity vs. a much much better DL. Also why no quick slants. We have some big body WO’s on the bench. We didn’t throw once. Stupid screens that didn’t work. So many mistakes on both side of the ball. I said 9-3 would be a good season for this team. I still feel that way. Wisconsin and PSU won’t be any easier. Nebraska is getting better every week and ND is ND.
Dude that was hilarious. And painful. You hit the nail on the head over and over. I mean dam, what team was that? Didn't look like my Trojans. I too was fired up thinking we were going to show the College football world what is up! Instead it was kinda embarrassing. I've been saying since last year Branch is overrated. As a punt retuner he doesn't seem to know what he's doing. That play where he kept backing up waiting for the ball instead of attacking it really made Moss look bad. I couldn't understand why Riley kept running it up the middle. Reminded me of Norv Turner running LT, Ladanian Tomlinson up the middle over and over on first down. Are you sure these weren't Pac 10 officials in disguise? Michigan fans crack me up. " Well you guys wanted this ". Yeah wanted the money. " Welcome to the Big 10 ". Dam, put the Bong down we lost by 3 not 30 ". And with the bad play calling, dropped passes, poor officiating, broken tackles, Moss being mauled, we still could have won it and probably should have won. Did Riley challenge any of these bad calls? Michigan apparently couldn't pass so we did we keep putting 5 or only 6 men in the box? We should have had 7 or maybe sometimes 8 and make them throw the dang ball. Man, I just didn't recognize this team. Like you said, to many dropped easy catches. Crazy man crazy. What a wasted opportunity. Gotta do much better.
I notice a pattern with Miller-he has decided who he’s going to throw to and doesn’t notice that there’s a defensive player that’s too close and ready to intercept. It could be that he felt pressured, but he needs to be ready to use an alternate and safer plan. If the offensive tackles are having issues, they need to use the tight ends to assist with blocking. Coach Riley should be ready to make quicker adjustments and have alternate plans in case things aren’t going as planned. If they are having issues with offensive execution, maybe they should huddle & give feedback as to what’s the issue so they are ready to make adjustments if they are being overpowered by speed or strength. As for targeting or face-masking, can coach Riley challenge with a timeout and ask for a review? On defense, with the long runs, it seemed that no one was back there in case a rusher broke through. Do they ever look at their mistakes and practice correcting for them? If they aren’t doing so, upcoming teams will be ready to exploit those mistakes and weaknesses. Coach Riley should be ready for different and unexpected scenarios so that he addresses the issues so they can be minimized.
Let's hope the coaches learn from the devastating loss and change. It was a total heartbreaker. Couldn't understand our play calling. Couldn't understand the first half at all. Understood the second half until their last drive. Poor Miller Moss. He got decimated back there. Yikes. I look forward to a Correction by all.
Our O line is horrible and they play calling was even worst. Maiva shoulda got some PT he woulda scrambled for 1st downs. I’m just as mad but it’s okay this is the only game we loose this season. Proud of the D fense they played tough minus the last mist tackle on that go ahead drive.

What? You guys dont like busted protection and bail out shovel passes?
When are we going to ever hold Coach Henson accountable for the OL lack of performance? Every time we had the ball you knew that Miller was not going to have enough time to throw it accurately. Today’s OL performance was embarrassing 😳
Why wait until the second half to adjust the o line though??????
@@boymeetstaco8733Because that’s the logical point to make major adjustments in a game because you have time to actually sit with the players and talk through new strategy.

Can someone explain to me why we have a 6’6 WR in Deuce and a 6’4 WR in Jakobi and we don’t throw the ball downfield to them?
Did you miss most of the game where the OL struggled to protect the QB and Moss kept having to pick himself up off the turf? Throwing the ball downfield is predicated on having time in the pocket for the longer routes to developed. When your OL is so poor that free rushers are coming in completely untouched to the QB it makes it a lot harder to get that downfield passing going.
@@DPMixing Moss doesn’t have to wait 4-5 seconds to release the ball downfield. Take the snap, 2 step drop and let it fly.

Would have never guessed that kamari Ramsey would be the player to not clean up a missed tackles.
The lead ref was a PAC-12 ref last year. Also, on the pick-6, it was the same play that they ran against Utah St. It was also almost picked off. The DB dropped it. Millers stares that particular play down and tips it off.

I’m a Michigan fan and was surprised to see Michigan win. I predicted 42-17 USC.
They took the day off. Called nothing.
We did stop them. Riley called terrible plays.

Great stuff as always! To think o-line played terrible, three points at halftime, missed calls and only lost by 3 to the best defense SC will play this year in very last minute of the game. SC will rebound and be contending.
Instead of using the TE's to help block Lincoln Riley was sending them out on screen plays...LOL!

Thought we left PAC refs behind… apparently not.
Refs definitely helped them win. Those TDS should have been returned
Now someone else said it was the crowd and the announcers

46 running attempts and not a single holding call
That’s the advantage. Holding mostly occurs on pass protection plays
You USC fans expected to show up and win. The trenches were won by Michigan. Your QB and receivers are awesome.
He did not look confident at all.
Michigan D - line is ferocious
As a Michigan fan u will admit you guys gave us a run for our money I will be expecting more from the Trojans for the rest of the year
