Something that has always puzzled me is that as plants bearing fleshy fruit does so in order for them to be eaten, and the seeds to go through the digestive system to be deposited elsewhere. Why then do some plants bear toxic fruits? Some just mildly so, and will cause mild stomach upset, but others seriously so, and potentially deadly.

What about pine cones? Not all fruits are tasty
Pine cones ate not fruits. They are gymnosperms.
The seeds of some pines are edible.
