I just reviewed it myself, and I'm glad that I see some else seeing it with the same quality that I am. I did stream some of it day one, and immediately was like "hey, this is something good", and man I'm glad I completed it. I do think that it doesn't have that attraction that's going to get mega eyes on it (it's not flashy in the way to get major players/streams/youtubers to see it), but I'm hoping it gets enough attention in the long run. Well done video, and straight to the point with some good choices on the sequences/choices that you made (my favorite detail moment is the Clay Man who literally indicates the time you visited him when counting aloud, and him definitely keep an eye on the last time you talked to him. Well done.
The character switching mechanic sounds so smart, it's taking Z/ZX/ZXA's amazing ability to switch your form, but with a slight twist! Neat game, for sure wishlisting it!
Just got it, looks awesome. These are the indie games that need to be elevated. The ones that take classic formulas and turn them to 11 and pack them the experience and knowledge only decades of retro gaming can provide. My recommendation for a game like this will always be "The End of Dyeus" which feels like elder scrolls mixed with an early 2d zelda. Only game I've played that made an Iron Shield feel like a massive upgrade.
The phrase "Megaman-like" would've shaved a good 5 minutes off this video. Puzzle platformer, Jump 'n shoot (or Jump 'n Slash when playing as Zero), enemies and stage features are presented safely first before mixing and matching them, failing restarting at the start of the room with no pause in between (running out of lives was the only way you restarted at the start of the stage, no lives means no stage restart), these are all mechanics and design philosophies that've been around since the first Megaman on the NES.
@@smokelingers It's hard to imagine someone interested in games who somehow hasn't played a Megaman-like at some point. Another platformer that does a good job with world building and sidequest is Curse Crackers. It even goes so far as to have NPCs move around the world and interact with eachother. And its should be no surprise because that devs OTHER game is Prodigal, a top down adventure which ask the questions "what if Zelda sidequest WAS the core gameplay loop". To a much lesser extent... um, Flipwitch... its a metroidvania with an adult artstyle and that's centered around... lets call it very intimate npc interactions... I'll stop beating around the bush, its basically what would happen if the Momodara devs turned off their horny inhibitors.
Never seen a game where you can literally get Raped by monsters after they defeat you (also known as "Game Over Rape") casually recommended in a SFW space before. Flipwitch was the last thing I expected to see here. Fetishized porn games really are getting more popular, huh?
it literally says "Monsters in the game are capable of non consensual sex with the female, player-controlled protagonist." and "Various non-vanilla encounters and non-consensual sex featuring humans and monsters" on the steam page, like it isn't hidden but it's worth pointing out in case people get curious.
@@Terranigma23 no because steam allows hentai games with rape, you just need to be logged in with adult settings active to see it. I'm not sure this game is for me, but you've sold me. I have some friends who love this style of game and I'll mention it to them. Like as not they'll love it.
Looks like a great game. Put it on my wishlist of Steam for now and I'll get to buying it sometime later when I actually have time. That said, about the death system in other games... it really depends on the kind of game you have. A hard 2D platformer where you'll die a lot doesn't need a long death/failure section. But in something like Monster Hunter it's also fine to have longer failure periods. You're fighting monsters anywhere from 10-50 or so minutes by the time you fail, you don't need to get back to the gameplay again in a few seconds. Usually you'll want to prepare better as well for the monster, so it serves as a breather. Of course it is dependant on the type of game and even the type of mode. Honestly hated not having a 'restart' option in Metal Gear Rising's trials. It's a mode in the game made for time trials, but the only way to 'restart' is to either finish or die. If you mess up big halfway through or at the start, either you need to die or exit to the main menu and select the trial again. It's not an issue for the main game, but it is an issue for that specific mode for example.
It's basically asking, "hey do you want to play a megaman like game?" "how about one with 10x more levels and side quests like its a 90s cartoon adventure platformer?". Personally i did buy this day 1 but having games ongoing and a bit of a backlog in front of it, its not the kind of game that i would play immediately. It is at the top of the list when i feel like playing an adventure platformer.
