  • Sophia courses are legendary for being some of the fastest-to-earn college credits out there, but how fast is fast? Today, I'm going to find out for myself and report to you.
    Note: As at least one helpful person has pointed out, the Sophia course I took is only rated by Sophia for one college credit. Please excuse me if I refer to it as 3 credits in the video. Thank you for the correction!

      @@Bea_Strong no you don't have to be with a college. You can look up the degree you want and look at the classes and make sure Sophia will partner with the school of your choice. But it's good to be enrolled because you can see what will transfer over to your school and if the classes are a matching equivalent to your degree program. You can give them a call for further info. But they help me achieve my bachelors fast because I did the balance of my courses on their platform and graduated, and I only had to take a capstone course with my school and I was finished. Many people do all their credits on the outside and transfer them in so they can graduate quickly.

    Sophia is awesome!! I earned 98 credits in just over six months from Sophia, the credits along with CIS-194 from ASU satisfied the AAS requirements from Pierpont Community and Technical College. These courses along with BIO 101L from Study satisfied all the general education requirements for UMPI as well as many elective options. I transferred 90 credits in that applied towards a degree program. I start with UMPI in the next term. Without Sophia any college would not have even been on my radar let alone attainable.

    I made a spreadsheet of each course. How many milestones, and how many touchstones. I avoided touchstones as much as possible as it's the holidays, so grading would be slower and it would slow me down in general.
    I avoided Math (it's my kryptonite) and focused on the career, humanity and history courses.
    When you sign up, have a plan and stick with it! If a class ends up more difficult than expected. Drop it temporarily and focus on the next course. Check out the syllabus for each class.
    Just some of my pointers for those interested. Thanks for the shout out Doc!

      Technically that’s called credit laundering 😜 And it’s always possible the credits might be accepted by accident that way, but in general that doesn’t usually work because transcripts are divided by school and Sophia shows up as “Sophia Inc” :)

    So if you’re 45 years old and have a PhD or years of experience, which includes pleasure reading, you can pass a college course made for 17 year olds. Not dogging anyone I’m just saying this is more of a feat for someone right out of high school and someone over 30. The reason people can fly through college so quickly is because you accumulate much of the knowledge in life.

    With Sophia if you take more than two courses a month you get hit with $70 per course. This includes three credit and one credit courses, such as labs.
    This means if you took four courses in a month it would cost you $240 while if you took two courses a month for two months it would cost you $200 and add $70 per course and the cost just keeps going up.
    Is this correct? Am I understanding this rightly?

    • @CollegeHacked
      @CollegeHacked  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Correct except what you described is Study.com, not Sophia :) You pay $235 for the first 2 courses then $70 a course after that until you hit the max of 5 in a month. So a total of $445 for 5 classes in one month on Study.

      Community colleges rarely accept Sophia, but you can Google “Oakland Community College transfer policies” to find out! If the info isn’t clearly stated, contact the registrar to inquire. Sophia is ACE accredited, just like CLEP exams, which they are likely to accept already. I would point that out if needed to try and justify why you’re not requesting something truly crazy.

    Step 2: Choose a course The video recommends choosing a course that aligns with your existing knowledge or interests to make it easier to complete quickly. For example, the TH-camr chose a course called "Developing Effective Teams" because he has experience in the workplace and has taught college courses on communication.
    Step 3: Work through the course material Each course includes videos, textbooks, readings, quizzes, tests, and assignments.
    Step 4: Take the quizzes and tests You can retake quizzes and tests multiple times to improve your grade. The quizzes and tests are open book, so you can refer to the course material while taking them.

      English 2 would be faster to complete if your going to wgu. It only has one paper vs English 2 on Sophia there are 7 papers.

    Is Sophia also okay for non-americans? I'm planning to take courses from Sophia and then I'm going to use the credits on The Open Unversity UK. I'm currently not in either US or UK but since both Sophia and Open University are online I'm really looking into them. I'm still quite young and just starting to figure out college. I'm really hoping to finish my undergrad studies fast so I can enroll to get my masters earlier as well. I will really appreciate if anyone here can clarify if these options are possible to me.

      Nope, non-Americans can use Sophia, but usually only a few American colleges will accept these credits.

      @@CollegeHacked That's okay the Open University is not an american college, it's in the UK. I'm in the process of asking them if they accept Sophia anyway, but thanks for the reply.

      Only at a few schools. TESU is a good one for CS hacking.

    Does the transfer of credit from Sophia Learning to the university after graduating with bachelor's degree affect acceptance of a master's degree at another university?

    • @CollegeHacked
      @CollegeHacked  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not normally. The only time I've personally seen that happen is if the Sophia covered sciences and the student was going pre-med. If you need labs to apply to a graduate program, do the labs in person.
