    Michael's story of being consistently rejected despite his incredible experience and competence is a testament to the harsh reality that the job market is brutal to those who don't have that piece of paper.
    His testimony and your work on this channel is a real life-changer for a lot of working folk. Keep doing the amazing work.

      I remember once going into a beanbag chair store at the local mall. They were hiring a sales person but when I applied they told me they required a bachelor's degree 😂 to sell bean bag chairs!!!!!

      @@ThereSaSpiderNMySoup Good grief! I thought it was bad enough that a restaurant required waiters to have a bachelor's degree but this takes the cake. T_T

    Great job! I've completed 81 credits via Sophia in two months as well. Combined with previous community college credits, UMPI has accepted 134 total credits! I'm still weighing my options between UMPI, TESU, and SNHU. I'm leaning toward UMPI. I can't wait to start this fall!

      I'm working on Sophia courses as we speak and right now I have a total of only around 45 credits. My question is, how do you know what courses the school is going to accept because I don't want to be taking courses that may not be accepted.

    I have attended courses at Ohio University, San Diego State, Wright State, Yale, Cornell, and graduated from Columbia. I can tell you first hand that you need to show MORE proficiency at competency based courses than traditional courses.
    Virtually every class at every school I have ever been to will pass you from a class with a C or even low B if you simply participate in every class and attempt every assignment and exam on time. You can fail every single assignment and exam and still pass the class because participation, attendance, and extra credit are almost always part of your final grade.
    That can't happen with competency based education. All it does is filter out the busy work.

    Michael is all of us. We are Michael. I got interview for product management because of years of management and we were like 4 and the boss liked me very much until they checked for my degree and I didn't finish college and the other guy had a Bachelor degree. They took him. Surprised he never had experience other than being a waiter in the university town he lived in. He was fresh out of college and the other lady graduated actually at WGU and went back to get her degree. So we went in a zoom call and five of us different back ground passed the interview and they were suppose to pick 3 and the manager was about to offer me the offer until he got to education and my lack of degree eliminated me so they took the guy out of college over me. Even the hiring manager told " your resume look perfect but we need at least a bachelor degree for this position. " that is how I got rejected from a very good potential salary. The start was 90 grand a year with potential to rise in the company. This was in 2020 mid pandemic. The lady who got the offer who is a WGU graduate we became good friends and we're communicating on Linkedin. She told me she was were I was a year ago. And after getting rejected she went to wgu in year she got her degree. I was intrigued and I asked more about WGU and here I am in the middle of my degree. I am 65% in my Bachelor degree in accounting and I am.planning on continuing to.do masters as well. I do not want anyone to ever use education to reject me. Ever😂😂😂😂

    This is pretty much the reason I've started to look at ways to get back to school without spending a lot of time and money.

      If you send your transcript free through Credly it won't even show your actual grade or % for the course, it only shows "Grade: Pass". On the other hand if you use Parchment for $5 it will show your marks but I'm sure as long as you pass other places will take it. Honestly I prefer to just use Credly so I don't have to worry about it.

      For some programs like physical therapy, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, that do take ACE credits; they actually want to see the letter grade for your pre-requisite sciences. Sophia and other course providers like Straighter Line do indeed apply letter grades if you need them. So some classes you would be wise to slow down a bit. Of course, if money is a concern, they provide you with the syllabus for free. So a wise person could spend 1-2 months with self study and then sign up once you already know the material.

    • @CollegeHacked
      @CollegeHacked  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Indeed! More of an explanation is needed for a build your own major degree (did you pick that major because you failed out of another program, or because it would allow you to utilize the industry expertise you already have?), but are very powerful when positioned correctly. :) Just ask Lauren, who advises for College Hacked. She used a build your own major to get accepted to medical schools!
