How expressive, stylistically plausible and emotionally lively is his playing of this Sonata! The tempo of the 2d movement is just right, not excessively slow like in the Barenboim‘s recording! Just for the last movement I prefer the recording of Shiff‘s compatriot pianist Annie Fisher.
This is the only rendition I could find that played the 4th mvt the way I think Beethoven wanted. Not simple rushing, with care to distinguish the important notes
There’s a difference between fast and rushed.Many play rushed, just looking for speed, and they lose musicality.Schiff plays fast, but he looks for musicality so that speed is only secondary.
