Interesting to see the Elephant and Castle area now, didn't recognize the place. I grew up not far from E&C and it has totally changed. Remember the sign in it's original location, but going back 60 years. Thanks for bringing back memories.
You are a better man than I. I think that we are of a similar age, and I can't imagine spending 24 hours that way. I have ridden many buses in my time, but have never gone 8 hours overnight. My wife and I will be visiting the UK in September, and I found your channel while researching the trains. We plan on going first class as much as possible, with no trips longer than 5 hours. We are looking forward to it, and thanks for all of the information.
Thank you for another great vlog Scott, so pleased that the daylight hours are now getting longer for your upcoming trips/vlogs for 2025. Congratulations on reaching 10k subscribers too, as others have said, so very well deserved! Have a good week 😊🤙
Thanks for sharing a fun video. 😊 The thing with Google is it relies on business owners to update it with times and availability of products and services. Google only tells what it's told. I always complain to the business and say please update Google with your latest opening time. The other thing is to give a BAD REVIEW with 1 star they soon update it, then you can update your review. You can be genuinely inconvenienced and out of pocket by wrong information. I don't hesitate to review badly and then tell them why, I'm happy to update my review after
Congrats on reaching 100,000 very well done and deserved. I knew about the elephant &Castle i knew where it was. As i used to pass it on my way to work in Denmark hill. Kensington is a good one. Last time i was in victoria coach station last jan wad waiting for flixbus to brussels.
I worked in a Dixons camera store in Ken High St in the 80's and used the tube station six days a week then and when I said I was leaving the company they gave me a job back in their Glasgow branch in Sauchiehall St...great times.
Fair play to your coach driver making sure the guy under the bridge was looked after... And relieved you found the pub sign, as I spent two minutes shouting "Look on the roof" at the screen while watching. Great video, as usual. Thank-you
100k subscribers massive well done Scott you deserve this I hope you can continue as a full time TH-cam creator financially you are a beacon for the hospitality industry now a real TH-camr as they say 😎👌
Just realised I've eaten at the second elephant and castle pub, we had a meal in a room upstairs I seem to recall it being very nice! You sure are a trooper Scott that was one hell of a journey!
Keep the great titles / ideas coming… just don’t rely on Google. Lesson learned and good advice to us all. Great video Scott! That £35 Caledonian Sleeper ticket 🎟️ definitely sounds great value if you can get one.
9:10That was a Geoff Marshall-worthy montage of tube trains coming and going! I also like the clever symmetry of police sirens at both ends of the journey
I always think it's amusing that the name Waverley, which has become so synonymous with Scotland (the station in Edinburgh, a famous and much-missed rail line, a paddle steamer) actually comes from an abbey in Surrey.
Hey Scott The “Elephant” has undergone extensive rebuilding and gentrification over the last few years. The Elephant sign was at street level before the area became upmarket! Charlie Chaplin was reportedly born several hundred yards from the actual Elephant, in East Street - home of the famous market. Although latest research says he may have been born in the Black Country? Michael Caine, or Maurice Micklewhite was born in Bermondsey at St Olaves. Quite some distance from the Elephant!
Michael Caine was born in Rotherhithe but lived in Marshall Gardens in Elephant and Castle for most of his formative years - which is probably where the wires got crossed. Quite a few people of note were born around the area if not in Elephant and Castle itself (Borough, Walworth, Camberwell etc).
The Waverley fact isn’t true sadly - there is an Ivanhoe station in Melbourne and Berlin has Onkel Toms Hutte (Uncle Toms cabin) there might be a few more
What could possibly go wrong? I've had that when getting to locations and stuff before, do love heading down to London and learning new stuff, especially with the railways and the Tube.
That is a familiar journey for me - modified a little. My home is Edinburgh Newtown, ny daughter is in Camberwell. So skip the castle, just hoof it to Waverley; only a Northern Line (but I go on to Kennington, it is closer and a hell of a lot less confusing than E&C. Even Google manages to make sense of it). I did once get the night bus Edinburgh to London Victoria. Once. No more. Horrid.
Visited the Elephant and Castle Pub in Kensington last November, just after visiting the Town Hall which is near by. Nice pub, and it was not too busy.
Good video scott to get to Elephant and castle you can do it by LNER, lumo or other train and coach operators but you will need to get the northern line to your destination operated by london underground
If you find opening times that are incorrect on Google maps you can suggest new hours directly through the app or website. It's also possible to suggest edits to other information about the business.
That was familiar territory for me, E&C has radically changed in the last 15 years, unrecognizable, a rough impoverished and heavily bombed out area, it's struggled for a long while, but now the 'gentrification' and office blocks are moving in, my dear old mum did 20 years in that M&S next to HighStK Station. It wouldn't be a PTE video if it didn't involve some travel torment along the way.
Scott, your crazy! A 24 Hour round trip to London just for our entertainment, to basically visit 2 pubs. Cheers for the content though, thoroughly enjoy whatever you provide. P.S: Did anybody else notice the gamechanger comment at 1.59, as he passed the Game shop? Clever or coincidence?
Braw Video Sir… Ye missed oot on a trip tae Paris , I’m sure Napoleon had an Elephant & Castle Statue long before London, it might be long gone noo but maybe the district remains 👍
Re the trains: I assume you couldn't get a cheaper ticket on the Lumo train slightly earlier on the same day? In theory more competitive prices than LNER, but fewer trains.
Scott, massive coffee their to get you to cruising altitude, looked like about two sips. Probably cost you a fortune also. Can't beat Cumberland farms coffee for size and price
😅well done on your 100k, you will soon catch up with Steve. Saw you on the train on Monday when you got on the 7.15 at Paisley. I tried to give you a nod, but you were deep in thought. Suppose you were working on your intro for the video you were starting that day 😂😂😂 Maybe you were on the way to the bus station for another epic coach journey, which we hope to see soon.
Paper maps rule, I never leave on trips without them. Sure, you take a bit longer finding where you are on the map but they don't need power,or gps satelites. Of course if all you are used to is Google/Bing/Apple maps you might be s.o.l. Always make sure you can actually read that map. Great video again Scott
Google is laughably bad for cycling. Shows cycle paths which do not exist all over the place, often dangerously so leading people onto busy fast roads. Maybe they are too poor to fix these things!
First video as 100k well done Scott 🎉
Congrats on 100k, love the videos

Fantastic title, I’m in
Fantastic video really enjoyed it keep up the good work.

He must have got it from Google!
100k... well done Scott.
I remember the dodgy “Shopping Centre” that was once at Castle Square. I was robbed of a pack of cigarettes in 2019…
I am glad to see that your diet has advanced significantly. Used to be fast food and sandwiches at train stations and airports. Cheers
Love your videos
congrats on 100k subs

My nan used to live near camberwell. Is it still the 36 bus route towards camberwell?
@@crazyfroggie6546 I forget. I usually walk from Kennington. 15 mins through the park.
@chrissaltmarsh6777 my nan lived just off Kennington Park, the flats along John ruskin street I miss those days before development was a priority.
@@crazyfroggie6546Yes, still the 36, still goes past Oval station, Kensington Park and to Camberwell Church Street then onto Newcross.
Visited the Elephant and Castle Pub in Kensington last November, just after visiting the Town Hall which is near by. Nice pub, and it was not too busy.
Great timing on the comment "that's a game changer ." As you say it as you pass the game store
Very strange to see you in my Student Union pub! If you ever do go back the food is top notch. Shame about the kitchen though👍
Fantastic video. Thanks Scott. Huge congrats on 100k subscribers!
I think it’s time to get an AyeGear 22 pocket jacket!
Great Video Scott
Congrats on 100K subscribers.

Good call with the Barclays Mastercard Avios, rack those miles up and get the bonus miles 😀
Great vlog as always 😊

The best castle race is from Newcastle Upon Tyne to Newcastle Under Lyme (or to Newcastle in Australia)...
It’s hard to blame Google for changes to ownership/opening hours. They rely on the business keeping them up to date.
Elephant in castle was named after a French royal who lived there and her name was elefante de Castile
Great video.......
It’s true, Scott, “not many people know that.” 😂🤣
I did manage to get a seat on the sleeper for around that cost about 8 years ago but was on a cold and draughty mk2 coach.
Braw Video Sir… Ye missed oot on a trip tae Paris , I’m sure Napoleon had an Elephant & Castle Statue long before London, it might be long gone noo but maybe the district remains 👍

Beam me up Scotty,
You might not find the landmark as the area has been gentrified.
Edit: oh you found it, well done.
There is an Elephant and Castle hotel in Adelaide
I thought Elephant and Castle was based on Infanta of Castile?
The Bloke might have fancied you 😂😂
Mind you at least you didn't bump into Jim Davison 😂😂😂
Which route does the bus take? A1 from Newcastle?

What's your opinion of the Azuma? They've been much criticised, although the LNER decor does look a lot brighter than GWR, I think
How about "Reading" railway station, named after what you do with a book?
and there's an Edinburgh castle pub in Manchester,
❤🎉
Congrats on the 100K.
If the Flixbus continued to Glasgow, why bail at Edinburgh
Leave the gun take the canole enjoyed the vid interesting trip
Didn't you want a 'local beer'? (05:13).
So u went to London and back up wuthin 24hrs
Actually 18m 59 secs!
Google is laughably bad for cycling. Shows cycle paths which do not exist all over the place, often dangerously so leading people onto busy fast roads. Maybe they are too poor to fix these things!
Less expensive to go to Dubai
You'd also be a very bad person who might be gluten intolerant.
Congrats on 100k!
