@dopamining Yes, I do. I like it. Just because something is not utilitarian, does not mean it isn't of value. The technology involved isn't really new, just a twist on existing tech. You could make this a simple indoor fountain, or you can wire it up to a couple hundred dollars worth of tech and create something that will be calming and fascinating. That's cheap. Being incensed about things doesn't make anything better, either.
Nope. Pure, filtered water. The only "viscosity" is its natural surface tension. Adding anything would gum up the high-speed precision valve ports. Think of the Graphical Waterfall™ as a sort of 3d printer, except that gravity is creating a continuous downward scroll....so you just keep building the pattern. Or not, as needed.
If you have money to spare, pevnickdesign.com is the place to go. I used to work for them building display modules like the ones used here (and in trade shows and other events)
@Thupol Not American, and I`ve lived in Japan since 1991, surrounded by this kind of amazing, ingenious and utterly useless technology. Meanwhile, we have seriously important challenges that need to be addressed, concerning energy, population, disease. Issues that might be important to a country like Brazil, perhaps? Instead, intelligence, energy and talent is poured into distractions like 3D television, hyper-real video games and this water clock. Do you really find this so impressive?
The Graphical Waterfall™ was invented by an American university professor of art and industrial design. Without Art, what is the point of living? If we deferred everything aesthetic until All The Big Problems Were Solved, life would be boring. Also, it's not a zero-sum game. Things like this can be invented _at the same time_ as energy solutions, medical research, etc. because not everybody is suited for working on or interested in those loftier things. Who died and made you God? People are not drones, to have their life's work be what YOU think it should be!
@dopamining Of course it's impressive, really damn impressive...No one would ever think about something like this...You should STOP complaining about what others do...Important Challenges? Those poor guys who invented this didn't do for bad -.- if you're really really concerned about all this, go on and study yourself...of course there are lots of other people studying and working hard to make up for all those issues nowadays, but it's not everyone who could do something for it all nowadays...
If this would be a 10 hours challenge, I'd watch it all with no breaks.
