Looks OK to me but had you paid the extra for a professional they wold have removed the side door runners and window opening rubbers? They also use hair dryers to warm up any they need to stretch for corners ect.Andy
I've done a bit of vinyl sign making myself, that's very good job you did there John. Looks like the stiffness of the material made it difficult....probably more suited to completely flat applications. That makes it a lot harder to get the finish you did. Pros use application fluid (well they do when someone else is paying) but a little washing up liquid in a water spray bottle does the same thing. That's mainly to allow for easy repositioning. Small bubbles ....pin pick the centre to make an escape hole for the air and go over them with your squeegee working from the outside to the pin hole. Van looks better now mate. Nice one. 😎
Looks very neat, goes very well with the two grey stripes down the side of the van. If I tried to do something like that I'd need to order 20 times the amount I really needed, and would probably still end up with all of it in the bin! 🙂👍
Looks good I like it when people personalise their vans. I can’t do stuff like that as I’m a paraplegic but I do as many jobs I can myself and always feel good when I’ve finished. I have repaired and improved something done by the manufacturer. Looking forward to seeing you finishing the bed area 👍
Great job John just in the process of doing a small project on my van done exactly the same as you bought too much even though it’s only a small job but looking forward to having a go when the weather gets nice and sunny Manchester at the moment not absolutely peeing down which is normal for Manchester I will endeavour to get me windows in and also the vinyl on Signing off Brian from Beswick Manchester
Hats off for having a go John and not a bad result for 1st attempt, but like all things some things should be left to the pros. However if someone wants to attempt this i would advise use of heat gun and mild slip liquid ( fairy liquid 10/1 in a spray bottle) gives you more work time.
There’s no one in our area that would do the work due to the window frames, door rail and so on. The 1 person who quoted wanted £600 and the van for a few days. This isn’t a standard vinyl, it’s not like the stuff used to wrap cars, as you can see in the video you can’t heat & stretch as it changes colour.
You did a good job. Ive done it a few times and i found to never do it on a hot day or in direct sunlight. Also wear soft gloves as it makes it easier to rub out bubbles with your fingers then use a squeegee.
For your first attemptat this John I think you did a great job, we'll done and cheers for showing us. Good to see the bits you had problems with and how you dealt with them as well. A grey permanent marker sounds good to me for that line you mentioned at the end 🙂👍
Plenty of people show you how to do things but not often do you see their own learning curve, I think the best way to learn is by getting things wrong & correcting them and it’s only fair to put those in the video to show how I figured things out.
Cracking job not easy to do but you have done well good. Heat gun can help you to shrink it and move it in place. If your bubbles don’t go when it is in the sun . You may have to put a pin hole in it. Cheers.
Heat was the enemy of this film as I showed in the video, with it being metallic film it’s not meant to be heated or stretched as you can see in the video.
really changes the look of the van. Very smart. It's funny for me as I got the hair drier out soon after getting our van and took off loads of black lines cause I preferred plain. Some of the hymercar 600 variants have black panels like you have done but ours just had lines.
Cracking result, congrats. Perhaps you could have used a heat gun for shrimping the material in roundings and corners, but for the first time beautifully done.
Heat was the enemy of this film as I showed in the video, with it being metallic film it’s not meant to be heated or stretched as you can see in the video.
Well done my son.. I would have only tackled that job if i had only flat panels.. I have done it before, but i will never do it again.. Looks good.. you got my approval.. Top of the class.. Ho.. I didn't see my rag roller on the wall,? have you posted it...???
Great video. The outcome looked good. If I was going to do it think I would come to you to help. I like trying to do stuff first before paying garage prices. Great tips.
That’s the beauty of this stuff, it’s designed to reflect heat as it’s actually metallic. After doing this the internal temp of the van is now slightly lower. 👍🏼
@@johnmandy I'll take your word on it. But if I were doing it, I'd do a simple temperature box test. These wraps can look spectacular so I am not knocking the upgrade. My van is naff white, but in the summer, it rocks as far as comfort goes.
There’s a digital thermometer in the hab area of the van, so it’s easy to see in & out temps. With the same outside temp the inside is now 3oC lower 👍🏼
@@johnmandy haha yeah, you can't really bugger up wrapping on flat pieces of wood bud, but when you've got peaks and troughs like you had, looked a nightmare! 😱👌
Window tinting is more tricky I think as it does stretch, the film doesn’t like air bubbles and car windows are using concave on the inside making it very difficult to work with. The trick is to pop the film on the outside of the window, with backing still on, then apply heat to shrink it to the shape, that helps a little.
Hi John. I m gonna do my back panels to make it look like i have all widows on the the side. I see 3m do a satin black. Do you have any recommendations which vinyl to buy please as i know nothing atm?? Thanks Scoobie-Dee
Nice job! Well done for persisting and getting there in the end. End result looks great 😁👍 I tried exactly the same on my van and failed miserably, have opted to spray paint it instead.
Awwww, don't give in Rick, let me come and help out. My 2nd choice was rubberised paint called Plasti-Dip, which can be peeled off just like vinyl wrap. If you really want to wrap it then get in touch and we'll sort it. If nothing else it'll be great content 😇
Gadget John on tour Thanks for the kind offer :-) actually, Plasti-dip is exactly the stuff I was going to use, it seems ideal for the job and always gives you the option to change your mind 😁👍
I have just been sent your way, because I am going to see if I can vinyl wrap my old tourer. So this is a great video. However, mine is bubbled in the middle of the van , so it might not work.

Due to the windows already being on the van I could only find 1 guy willing to do this, who wanted the van for 3 days and roughly £600.
