    Oh, a really good tip when you're building something is to cut out a piece of cardboard in the size of your tank say for a 20 gal 30x12 and place what you're making on there to see how it will arrange and fit into the tank. When making a backdrop be sure to leave some extra space for the grout or it will not fit into your tank (mine when I made it fit just perfectly but I can't remember how much space I left but I would say maybe 1cm (CM not IN!) each side should be ok

      Is sealing on grout even needed, because a lot of ppl told me its not?

    • @heatherjohnson2552

      @@urosmilanovic2878 the grout might crumble over time and the gecko could ingest it. Sealing it also makes it easier to clean.

    Your project came out super nice. I love making things with my hands. I once made a beautiful rock background, took me about a week as well, i don't have it anymore but man it was super nice and so fun to make. I'm slowly setting up a leopard gecko tank, I want everything to be perfect so I'm taking my time. This has been an ongoing desire (to have a leopard gecko) for about 5 going on 6 years. I lived right around where ron tremper lives but moved away since and I'm so bummed I can't visit his facility when I finally get my gecko. That was really a missed opportunity.
    I really think the best part besides actually owning your gecko is the whole prep work and taking time to actually craft the habitat. Can't wait

    Are all of the products that you're using safe for the leopard gecko considering everything will typically be heated at some point? I want to make sure he won't be intaking toxins such as melted foam or even the glue from the gun... I love the idea and setup 100% but this will be my first attempt at DIY decor for my lil guy so it seems like there are a million "Do's" and Don'ts out there!

      I just put all the things I'll need to build in my cart for home depot and it's going to be around 50 but I also included a hack saw and some pvc pipes and spray foam and I'm getting multiples of some items. I already have the hot glue gun and acrylic paints so won't need that in my case but you can pick up a hot glue gun for about $5 or less at walmart.
      1 lb grout $6
      Spray foam can $4
      Hack saw $5
      Foamular panels 2x2 ft $6
      3 in pvc pipe 90° elbow $3
      3x24 in pvc pipe $7
      Extra set of hack saw blades $6
      Figured I'd list each item so you can pick out what you need and see the price. The foam I'll be getting is more expensive but it's high density foam and doesn't crumble into little balls like styrofoam does but I've used styrofoam as well on a backdrop and it works just fine, it's just messy af

    • @jojoyoung8629
      @jojoyoung8629 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi I've made this myself and the type of grout isn't importaint but i recomend using sanded grout or adding texture to it. Also i do not suggest using and alternative sealant since the one she uses in this video is best but if you can't find it where you live i recommend researching the brand you intend to use but make sure its water based and safe for your animal after it finishes curing. And also what do you mean by using paper mache? Instead of foam or just paper mache?

    • @moondicky3051
      @moondicky3051 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jojoyoung8629 thank you for replying 😄 and i meant; using paper mache only without any other sealant, is that ok? 🤓

    • @jojoyoung8629
      @jojoyoung8629 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@moondicky3051 1. make sure its strong enough to hold up your reptile 2. Depends on the glue if it is safe for the reptiles/animals 3. I would not reccomend because without the sealant it would not be cleanable really, and the sealant makes it water proof and easy to clean. So for short term you could probably use it but long term probably not(if you're not planning on changing it offten). And also the paper would obsorb all moisture and liquids and stuff and potenally fall apart.
