    Beer & Cigs. The staple training food of your average sportsman back in the day. What a legend Bill was. 👍

  • @mrjones29
    @mrjones29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    I'm happy I grew up in an era of British sport where the guys drank beer and smoked cigs during the match/race/bout in front of a live audience and live tv. Bill was one such character of sporting legends. Much missed continue RIP Bill.

      yes there was canadians about ( also in darts) but it felt very british didnt it ... Now 'britain' may as well be africa or china .....and snooker is Tedious as now ! ....

      Listen, if you're drinking 40 pints a day (he did) that shit ain't cool!

    • @mrjones29
      @mrjones29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@shaundstone Never used the term did I. I just merely said I missed the old days of sport when competitors smoked and drank on stage. What they did to their bodies is/was their lookout.

      @@mrjones29 You're not very bright (and I AM) and your reply is utter nonsense. You're now saying that 'you didn't say drinking and smoking was a cool thing for sportsman to do' when you indubitably, in fact DID. Fuck me: Make your mind up.🙄🤣

    Love the story Willie Thorne told about a match he played against Bill - "He drank 10 pints before the match began and then drank a pint a frame throughout. By the end of the match I was stone cold sober and Bill had 29 pints inside him. He beat me 10-9."

    Big Bill helped my 8 Ball game tremendously. I never player snooker with him but several hours over several days of 8 Ball pool. I sure miss him.

    Very nice video. Thanks, bill was definately a character, sadly missed. And the famous pictures of him peering round the centre screen at the crucible watching cliff thorburns 147. Brilliant piece that is. I can't even imagine how much big bill drank a year. That story with the 40 pints. Nice man, may he rest in peace.

    Claiming beer on his income tax - brilliant! 40 pints in a session and then going out for an evening's drink - amazing. Bill always seemed to be smiling. Guess he had a short but happy life. God bless you Bill.😃😃

    Yeah, loved ol' Bill, he was a gentle giant. You'd have thought the Canadian trio might have stimulated a glut of players from their homeland, but it never happened. Kirk Steven's white suit probably frightened them off - that guy could have been an extra on 'Saturday Night Fever'. Good memories!

    As a teenager playing snooker in south Vancouver I had the opportunity to play Bill at Ace Billiards a couple times when no one was available. I always remember breaking the balls and bringing the cue ball back to the far cushion in quite an impressive way. He looked at it for a moment and said “well, looks like you learned something hey kid”! I’m now 62 years old.

      Absolutely. The msm have turned their back on him now,as it is deemed a crime to speak truth on the subject of Covid. I remember him saying how his Wikipedia page changed over night to him being a conspiracy theorist,and anti vaxxer.Just because he dared to speak about the insane way our government handled it. The people have short memories,and forget he was a very influential expert for many years before the deadliest disease to have ever hit mankind. Strange thing is that the year of the outbreak was deemed to have the worst death rate since WW2. Except when they added the number of deaths in 2020 they forgot to do what they have always done,and put the population into account,and count the deaths per 100,000. A genuine mistake I am sure!! When done as it should have been done,it turned out that there were more deaths in 2003 than in 2020 in the UK. I can't say as I remember the msm correcting this error though. The man is a hero in my book.

      As a 10 year old kid I couldn’t pronounce his surname, so I just referred to him as “Bill Web & Puke”. It’s amazing how he never puked on a Snooker table when stretching to take a shot, considering the amount of beer he used to guzzle, it would have been hilarious if he had puked on the table whilst stretching to take a shot
