The ‘23 Sequoia has better fuel economy, but it’s a step backward in terms of cargo space, no more highly useful roll-down rear window, and a less useful transfer case. The 2nd gen Sequoia has the option of running 4Hi with the center diff unlocked, which basically gives you AWD on dry pavement. Highly useful feature. If you can afford the fuel and don’t care about updated aesthetics, the 2nd gen is the one.

I have a 2015 Sequoia and love it! I did look into a newer one a few months ago but the dealer was asking too much and offered me a laughable amount for my current one. So maybe Toyota would sell more if payments weren't the same as my mortgage! Who can spend 70K on a brand new truck right now?

The Sequoia works well for the late majority or laggard referring to innovation. Everyone loves the latest and the greatest until it stays in the shop for multiple days on end (while still making that payment) and driving a subpar rental. Then the Sequoia, with its outdated port injection, six-speed transmission, and outdated interior, starts to shine. Is the fuel mileage great? Absolutely not, but when you take the time to analyze other vehicles with a v8 and a 4.30 axle ratio, it’s on par fuel mileage-wise with those vehicles, and the second-generation Sequoia has about a 6-gallon fuel reserve. Regardless of the look of the exterior or interior. The interior room vs. length of the vehicle is impressive, and the reduction of body fatigue on long trips is fantastic. It is similar to the Lincoln Town Car, Cadillac Fleetwood, and Buick Road-masters. Lastly, for the people that want room, better tech/ interior, and fuel economy, it’s plenty of other options to choose from. However, for those of us that still enjoy a little naturally aspirated v8 growl and old-school character, this generation Sequoia gets the job done over and over again. Those owners will say the mileage isn’t great, but I love it, and I couldn't agree more.

I happened to get my hands on a 2022 sequoia 4x4. There is no better way to go on long trips. Very comfortable and it has averaged almost 21 mpg on 700 plus mile trips. Toyota has had 15 years to make revisions and correct anything that was once wrong with the Sequoia, and it is now at its best with its proven naturally aspirated V8 engine. Both engine and transmission have been proven to go the distance( 1,000,000 mile tundra) and pull( Space shuttle pulled by tundra in LA). Who now’s when the Sequoia will be this great again.

I like driving the Sequoia but I saw 10 mpg in the city with a 2014 and the engine & mpg haven't changed since then. At $5 per gallon, that's insane. You can go buy an older Toyota/Lexus V8 with over 100k miles on it for under 20k and it will still run great. You'll come out way ahead by buying that instead of a much more expensive and newer full size SUV of any make that gets better mpg. I don't know anyone that would pay 50-60k for one of these Sequoias only to pay another $400 or so a month in gas. Awesome to ride in, way too high total cost of ownership. Also, if you ever drive in the city, even a small/midsize city, trying to park this thing is aggravating. Seems like more and more parking spots are closer together these days. I'm a Toyota guy, have a family of 5, I'm big fan of these engines, but no way would I buy newer one. If a guy like me ain't buying...no wonder they're not selling. If you buy a Sequoia at all, buy an older one for cheap with higher miles for the lower TCO.

"Take it or leave it" is how Toyota deals. I ended up getting an amazing deal on a 2018 Nissan Armada SL. I love that SUV. I still drive my 2010 Tundra, so I'll always have a soft spot for the Sequoia... So my point is, Toyota doesn't sell any Sequoias or Tundras because there are none available.

I think in 2023, with new 4Runner, Ranger, Grand Cherokee, etc. here or coming, there are more powerful smaller models to choose from. Gas matters, but as I do less than 5,000 miles a year, it's the desire to get something smaller for 1 person that motivates me.

@@everymandriver no I haven't. To my knowledge, I only know about them & JD Power when it comes to car ratings & JD Power has become laughable. I recently saw that CR recommended a Chevrolet as it's alternative pick for an SUV & maybe the big corporations have got to them as well, which is a shame because they seemed to be the most trusted, independent products reviewer. I do also try to listen out for the other websites that you mention in your videos, it's nice to see some real information as apposed to relying on people like Scotty Kilmer, who only recommend Toyota or Honda. He does have huge experience but Toyota & Honda are expensive in the Middle East, so always need to be looking for cheaper alternatives. Really appreciate your videos, thank you.

I think it may be the styling. It looks a little bloated and rounded off compared to the Land Cruiser and the 4Runner.

The answer to poor sales is multi fold. I don’t trust consumer reports ratings and had a Toyota tundra that was highly rated and had been recalled for stalling problems and fuel pump issues. First of all there are few if any on the dealer lots. Second of all gas Mileage is horrendous compared to the other competition. The Toyota sequoias Design is butt ugly, as are most Toyotas. Great cars with excellent engineering but the designers use the ugly stick for the exterior. I was tempted to buy a 2023 Sequoia but I have been disappointed in the design and the pricing. There’s so many better opportunities, including the Jeep Wagoneer, the grand Cherokee hybrid 4XE, the Ford Expedition, etc. with gas prices at six dollars per gallon, $150 will fill up this large SUVs gas tank, And will give you a range of about 260 miles. I ordered a Jeep grand Cherokee 4XE plug in hybrid which has 58 mpg equivalent. I don’t need the extra towing capacity, 6200 pounds of towing is adequate and over 88 ft.³ of cargo space is sufficient.

they don't need a v8 to make power. in fact it doesn't even have much power. need to make the engines smaller and more fuel efficient. And this time instead of making it a plugin hybrid, they made it so that the hybrid powertrain provides more torque to make up for the v6. the 2023 redesign will finally kill the sequoia.

I love the car to spew out the smog to stick it to Californians and EV enthusiasts. This car gets worse gas mileage than my Porsche. It is awesome. I am driving my Toyota everyday in front of the Tesla. Let them liberals sniff my gas. I can drive with one spark plug missing with this car. I can absolutely decimate the environment with this car to irritate the Karens who are driving EV.

Average peeps like me buy toyotas because their simple, easy to fix, easy on the eyes, with more space and enough seats. Take that away and put a higher price tag I might as well get a ford truck.

The 2022 Sequoia one thing that people want to avoid probably is the poor interior all the 2022 Toyota Sequoia as well as the best fuel economy and another big thing is space behind the third-row if you cannot have enough space behind the third-row this really no reason to buy a vehicle that big because it doesn't do his job
