As an eager listener to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age I eventually also stumbled upon the godly assemble of men that is Them Crooked Vultures. Listening to a live performance on youtube I became curious of the bald 4th guy that had vocal lines, which led me to wiki the vultures live ensemble and got me the name Alain Johannes. Not stopping there, I ventured out to youtube once again to listen to his band Eleven. This was about 3 years ago. I am still mesmerized by this man. This genius. Alain Johannes and Natasha Schneider will forever live on in my heart. Their huge amount of work in the shadows is mind-baffling, and that they never received the recognition of the mass as their many colleagues did is sad. But I truly hope that they never was discouraged, and kept rocking on. RIP Natasha and all the love to Alain. I am blessed to have your music in my life.

Same story here! In fact, it was even better for me to know about him, cause he is chilean, just like I am. Just 2 weeks ago he played live here in Concepción with his band "Alain Johannes Trio". They released some months ago their new -and first- single ft. Mike Patton (singing in the chorus), and its awesome.

recognition of the mass maybe never mattered for Alain and Nat, maybe they worked only for the blessing of playing their music and help other musicians they respected...maybe! The recognition of their music fellows was hugely sufficient, I guess...when Dave Grohl introduced Alain as the most talented musician on stage, his humblety might have been shook somewhat!

Alain's the unsung hero of so many of my favourite bands / projects!! and his solo stuff is immense. there's a reason he's played with so many great musicians!

I was fortunate enough to see the Euphoria Morning tour in Seattle, and although Chris is awesome, his band blew me away. I'll never forget how that show ended, with the cacophony of loops.. So f'n killer.. I've been a fan ever since. On Spark.. It's in my top five albums of all time. I can't think of another example of such profound sorrow, loss, love and hope, so beautifully done. I'm a forty eight year old metal-head, and that album still can make me cry. So incredibly moving, it's helped me through some sad times as well. Among all the static and noise we are assaulted with daily, Alain's music truly is a gift. An oasis. Solace.

That was a wonderful show! I got my brother and myself tickets for his birthday from Ticketmaster, care of a Disc Jockey outlet in the local mall. Tickets were the nosiest of the nosebleeds, and we borrowed my mom's car to drive to Seattle for the concert, but it was an amazing experience nonetheless. My brother lost it when Cornell covered "Boot Camp." We talked about that show for weeks, and it's part of the tapestry that forms my relationship with him.
All that, at least in some small way because of Alain and Natasha. Hopefully more people find stuff like Eleven and like it. I can still listen to "Thunk" all the way through and think, "This album is awesome!" Those were good musical times.

Thanks for this as an Alain fan. The guitar riff or really both riffs to "Reach Out" are some of the best of all time. Alain's incredible vocal is just the icing on the cake. I got my dad into the band with almost no pushback by playing the song for him. If Alain is in your band he's playing lead guitar. I don't care who you are, unless you happen to be Robert Quine.

No one else sings or shreds like Alain, which is why so many people wanted him in their arsenal. Alain and Natasha's harmonies were unreal, like their voices were meant for each other.

Alain Johannes is the Ramza Beoulve of 90's rock. He'll never be the first name you think of, but in terms of impact he probably should be.

where did you get the instrumental tracks from? I really enjoy just hearing the instruments..especially "No, I Know"… Howling Book is in my top 10 albums list and I think it's one of THE most unknown masterpieces of modern music out there!

I met Alain and Natasha on the streets of NYC in 1996 and they could not have been lovelier. I've been a huge fan of Eleven ever since I saw them open for Soundgarden in '94 and their talents, while widely utilized, have never been properly recognized. This was a really great thing you did - and thanks for making me aware of the Spark record, which I've just ordered. RIP Natasha!

I was fortunate to meet Alain this past weekend in Cincinnati at a very scaled-back show (about 50 people in attendance). He sounded great and was very friendly and down-to-earth to speak with and I got a pic with him -- one of my bucket list items as he's one of my top three favorite songwriters of all-time.

Alain closed his recording Studio "11 AD" recently. The last album recorded and produced there was Patrón's selftitled album featuring Patrón himself, Alain Johannes, Joey Castillo and Nick Oliveri among others. Great record and a worthy last album to come out of that historic studio.
    You can find it here:
    patronofficial.bandcamp.com/album/patr-n
Alain has some guest appearances on the album and produced it as well.
