That is called code switching! I love it when people do that! With my partner we both speak different languages so the basic language is English but we've taught each other some words so for example we say good night in French (my language) and meal names in hindi or telugu (his languages)
I used to work at an airport and it was a bilingual environment between two of our official languages French and Dutch. So sometimes when I didn't know a word in the other languages I'd switch back to my own and continue the original sentence. Or just like you guys, expressions that make more sense in the other language. It was crazy how our team could have a group conversation with both languages firing everywhere and still everyone would understand! I love code switching 😁
Do it all the time. I am from India, and I make the switch between English and Hindi
Ditto! It's so fun
Marie-Ange Rahir sameee. a lot of singaporeans code switch between english (singlish, more of) and their mother tongue (mandarin, chinese dialects, malay, tamil...etc.) depending on who you’re talking to 😂
Too relatable D:

My parents are french but I watched a lot of English TV when I was a toddler so now I am Bilingual. I have a lot of English and French friends and if I am in an english province I will speak english to them even though we all speak French. I am currently learning Japanes and I still got a long way to go... Hopefully when I go to Tokyo next March I won't be a total baka no gaijin.
acexkeikai Baka na gaijin ..
Good luck! Say hello to my home country haha
Like I said I am not good.
I totally can relate to mixing languages! My parents are from Germany but I'm born and raised in Sweden, we tend to mix the languages a lot when we speak among ourselves. Some words are just better/more describing then in the other language (sometimes it's German and sometimes it's Swedish). So I really get that, I can get many confused looks when I'm out shopping with my mother and asks her in german if she found anything and then continue the conversation in swedish ^^.
I grew up in a trilingual household. My dad was from Sudan (so he spoke arabic and english) and my mom is from Hong Kong (so she speaks cantonese and english). My siblings and I grew up in Canada and only picked up a few arabic phrases but we’re fluent in canto. We speak at differing levels of fluency though. Mostly it’s a chinglish but I try to speak at much chinese as possible.

My wife is Japanese and I'm french. She lived in the US for a while and learned french. We speak mainly japanese with english and french words, mainly, as we've noticed, when they're easier to pronounce or simply shorter. The hard part is not to use that mix of languages with other people.

I'm the only bilingual family member so i tend to throw in some english words when speaking persian and some persian words when speaking english! being bilingual is so fun cause if I don't want my parents to understand what I'm saying I just start rambling english!
This is called code switching in linguistics! I grew up with my half japanese best friend so I got pretty used to her mum addressing her in japanese and replying in english.

I was born, raised, and live in the UK so of course i speak English. My parents are from Pakistan so I can speak and understand a reasonable amount of Urdu, and since my grandmother doesn't really speak English in order to communicate with her i have to rely on my mediocre conversational Urdu.
I also spent two years living and studying in Bulgaria so i can speak a little bit of broken Bulgarian. Also from watching subtitled anime I've picked up the odd word from Japanese.
(I'm barely going to cover my 5 years of high school french, of which i remember a few sentences.)
Generally none of these languages interfere with each other apart from English and Urdu, some words are just more instantly recognized by my family if i say it in Urdu rather than English.
Although recently when i went back to Bulgaria for a visit, my Urdu and the odd Japanese word would somehow slip in since i knew the word in Japanese or Urdu but not Bulgarian.
On top of that some German friends taught me some basic German. And Some Afghan/Iranian friends taught me some Farsi, since Farsi is one of the languages Urdu is derived from it made it easy to learn and pronounce those words.
However i am in no way fluent in anything other than English. :D xD
I’m Brazilian and I’m living in Japan for about 1 year
At home I speak Portuguese with my parents and brothers
My brother and I are studying Japanese
まだ難しいけど頑張っているよ
