  • The fantail is one of New Zealand’s best known birds, with its distinctive fanned tail and loud twittering song, and particularly because it often approaches within a metre or two of people. Found in native bush and forest as well as suburban gardens the fantail feeds on insects caught in the air .
    In Maori lore , piwakawaka is the Sky Dancer , the agent of laughter , the gaurdian of departed spirits and a kaitiake , or gaurdian , of the forest .
    Filmed with Canon SX60HS .
    Edited and produced with Cyberlink Powerdirector 15 .

      Beautiful birds, these little guys follow around people in parks because you kick up bugs for them to eat. IT WAS MANIPULATING YOU THE WHOLE TIME!

    Enduring happy memories of NZ. These little birds regularly came through our open sliding windows into our family room, did a couple of circuits and made off again. Missing NZ.

    Such beautiful wee birds. We have a particularly curious one that likes to fly inside our home and swing on our dream catcher. It's very chatty. It often comes and sits on the fence with us when we're outside

      One came into my house yesterday, I thought it might not find it's way out so I guided it out the door and it promptly flew back in for a chat 😀 . They do seem to love company !

      @@fallenhope1They are messengers of death.
      When one flies into our house we always shoo it out the front door. If it leaves flying out the window or any other exit points then we usually get news that day or the next that one of our extended but well loved family member has passed away. Although these are wonderful birds, some of my family members hate them bc of their irrational fears but I keep telling them they are harmless until they come into one of our homes and if that happens to gently guide them out the front door instead of panicking

    have you ever seen a fantail without its tail flying? there is one at home that has no tail maybe it escaped the rat that only got its tail . It flys well and must be catching insects on the wing.

    • @TonyPalmer
      @TonyPalmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      These birds feed on little flying insects and when you are walking in the bush they will flit around you catching the tiny insects that you are displacing but I'm sure that on this occasion they were just being friendly 😁
