Oh my word, the introduction: "these are children that no-one wanted..." Kids getting introduced with that kind of label to carry throughout their lives 😢

If you listen carefully, the announcer sounds like he's reading an introduction written by the mother who adopted these kids, it said sign Julie Lerke

Kitty Carlisle was quite a lady. I've noticed how solicitous she is when any of the other panelists seems to be in distress. Kind heart.

Sweet how Tom Poston shook hands with the little boy who seemed to be off on his own not knowing what to do.

By 1967, substantially fewer shows were broadcast in black and white. That being said ; To Tell The Truth was late to the game when it came to transitioning to color.

By now the show was airing in color...but due to the cost of tape, archival tapes were usually in B&W.

How incredibly insensitive TTTT was by mentioning how 'nobody wanted these kids' right in front of them. By their own admission, one set of parents died so it's not like they were all tossed out like a bag of rubbish. And even if they were, I found their lack of empathy deplorable. Nothing like giving children a complex to carry with them into adulthood.
The 50's and 60's (in retrospect) was chock full of stupidity on many levels.

Looking at it another way, Johnny was only reading what was on the copy... he didn't write it. Granted he could've said something to suggest something better, but I guess at the time he was just following orders.

To Tom Poston's point of how the Magyars fall in with Hungarians, I've learned in the past that the people don't appreciate the term "Hungarians" and refer to themselves as "Magyars."

I remember seeing the family on the Mike Douglas show and thought it would make an excellent movie. I don't know if the story had a happy ending or not but even in the best families and best of circumstances things sometimes don't turn out well. I recall the mother relating some of the stories that happened to the kids and she was pissed off (as well she should be) She seemed ahead of her time as a strong woman. But I could be all wrong, I don't know the backstory.
