Ryung spamming IMBA IMBA IMBA made my jaw drop. Great video! Especially for people like me, I only got into the scene about 3~ years ago. So I missed a lot of the history. Slowly catching up to everything thanks to you 💪

One my biggest takeaways from this video is how much Tasteless has grown as a caster - pretty stiff casting in this old tournament compared to the more relaxed verbosity we're used to today.
I was going to guess before you uploaded, for some reason I kept thinking HyuN, but didn't want to look up results, I remember he was strong during this period, but didn't think he won the Code S title, I completely forgot about Sniper, I remember so many games from this season, going into it I remember Ryung being everyone's pick, the upset was strong. Without looking it up, Sniper really was forgotten about, it slipped my mind completely. Watching the Ryung vs. Sniper set was pretty rough back in the day, Investors were in full swing, but still GSL back then was still something I made sure to tune into, good times. Ryung deserved to win a Code S, but I suppose there are many players who you could say the same about.
One guy that came out of nowhere smash everyone and vanished just as quick was Pigbaby. He made Taeja, HyuN and Bomber look like a joke and was never seen afterwards. Pigbaby started in 2013. Nuked the scene in 2014. Vanished by 2015.
To be honest, as an OG SC and sc2 fan, even I forgot about sniper. Jjakji, I remember him, he and innovation 2011-2013 were maybe the top terran players and they played a lot together, though Jjakji was a bit better than Ino in my opinion. Some food for you, do you remember who July was? I will give you a tip, July zerg. If I'm not mistaken, he was one of the oldest players at that time, just a fun fact.

Was he a Patchzerg? Unequivocally yes, he basically defines the term. Did he have to defeat every other Zerg, both those riding the patch and those that were excellent before and after it? Also yes. You cant say he's a bad player in any way, he's just not a flexible one. The patch came that suited his playstyle and he made his mark because of it. Now he has a GSL championship and everyone in the comments section of any site judging him does not.
Him winning GSL code S, hell that entire season where you knew the best players were not going to win because of how broken the balanace was. Should be forgotten, I stopped being an avid watcher of Starcraft 2 after this tournament because Blizzard had seen this going on for months, saw GSL, and still chose to do nothing about the absolutely horrible state of the game. They lost viewership over this, how much viewership I don't know, but there were definitely other people like myself that moved onto other e-sports.

I always think of Seed as the most bizarre GSL Champion. He beat MC and after that he was.... pretty much gone.

I was at that tournament! They hosted those finals at IPL5 in Vegas. It was a magical weekend, but the GSL finals sucked.

a lot of things were broken in SC2. Archon toilets, forcefields in early game, void rays, raven turrets, seeker missiles. Early SC2 was a wild game.
