Thank you! This was one of the best camera tutorials I have watched. Detailed enough to show me some basic features I have never seen, and presented in a way I could follow with camera in hand. I think we purchased it more than a year ago so I guess it's about time I learned how to use it. :-) Thanks again!
Tanks a lot! I can't believe that the manual doesn't bring us any advanced information, like fps, video size (720, 1080...) . You just saved me from desperate hohoohoho. Tank you once again. Joca, from Rio, Brazil.
Hi there. I have a Canon Vixia hf r800 that I haven't used because I could never get around to learning how to use it. Your video was short and to the point. Thank you so much for sharing.
I just received this camera today and thank you for showing some of the things that I can change, mine has a little bit of a difference because mine doesn't show the little box with 32x . We live in Ohio too!
Thank you for an extremely comprehensive tutorial. Especially appreciate bringing up the screen brightness because I couldn’t see it when bright sun outdoors and rarely used it for that reason.
Thanks, Aaron for sharing this. I've been using the auto mode to do painting videos in my studio and found that they looked a bit darker when I uploaded to my computer. I have 2 bright lights on both sides of the table and it looked good on the screen, but when I uploaded the video it appear a bit darker. So I'll try the P setting and see how that goes.
In this case you ll need a capture card to use the camcord like a webcam, just using hdmi cable. But, the best capture card to use with that model....i’m still looking for
great video, the best. I do have a question, to the right of the photo icon, where you have 32X I have a box with an A in the middle and arrows point out at each corner and to the left of the A is a verticle line. What is meaning of that box? And when I'm shooting how can I get rid of the icons on the screen
Thanks for the information. I ordered the camera based upon your video at Innis Woods. This video will help me get it set up faster and I should be able to take better videos with the camera right out of the box. There is another video on TH-cam showing "problems" with this camera. Maybe you could do a similar video and show workarounds. No piece of equipment is perfect for everyone but with workarounds you can get things closer to what you need. Keep up the good work. Go Bucks!!!
It's good outdoors, but it is a grainy image indoors in average lighting. So keep that in mind. Newer cell phones perform much better than this indoors.
@@FitsandFun It's good to know because I was thinking of making videos of products reviews (indoors filming). My A50 might do the work in this situation, I'll have to try them both out.
What’s the best way to reduce the flicker on background RGB lights? Would it be to change the shutter speed. There was also a flicker reduction setting as well. Not sure what’s the best option.
Yes change shutter speed. Your shutter speed should be twice your frame rate. For example 30 frames a second should be a shutter speed of 60.this often happens because of the frequency of led lights.
Do you have some tips to use that camera to make live stream on TH-cam. For example, best setup, capture card, lighting. I’m trying to reduce the grainy video
How do you connect three Vixia HF R800 cameras to a switcher board so that it each shot shows on on a screen when filming events? Can you facebook livestream and show the event on the screen at the same time using Vixia camera?
Thanks. I was hoping you'd say something about the external SD card. For some reason my camera has stopped recognizing my card. What are the format requirements? Somewhere I found "exFAT" but what about "Allocation Unit Size?"
Hi this tutorial is awesome. Here is some questions. I teach and I want to take my class live on TH-cam. I have a Pc with i3 processor with zebronics H61 mother board & 4gb ram.. Will it be sufficient to go live @1080 video quality or I need to upgrade my Pc? Please help me
Does it have a graphics card? Or do you know if the graphics are integrated in the motherboard? If so it might be able to handle 1080p. If not it should handle the 720p.
@@FitsandFun I think it has 2gb graphic cards.. By the way should I purchase any video capturing device?.. Or it can work with integrated graphic cards
I noticed with my camera that if I have it in AUTO mode, it won't let me change the image stabilizer setting. In any other mode, I can change it. I guessing that after 2 months, you might have figured that out already. :)
At this point, they're probably a bit dated at only 1080p for most people. But I'd say that if the content is good enough, the quality of the video is secondary. As long as the sound is decent.
Nice explaining!! Thx... I thinking for a while now for what camera i should buy... The Canon HF R800 or the Canon Powershot sx730. What would you recommend?
Hello, and thanks for the informative video. Do you know if this camcorder has a remote control option? I notice it does not come with one, but i didn't know if there was something aftermarket available.. Or, if that just isn't possible with this model? I personally find a remote control handy, but it seems many in this price range do not come with one (except for the super cheap ones on Amazon). Any thoughts there? thanks!
This has no wifi or bluetooth, so I doubt any wireless remotes would work. But I haven't researched a possible wired remote. I haven't seen anything to indicate one exists.
Hi! Thx for your video on this camera. It is very helpful. I just bought one today, in fact, and it's charging right now. I noticed that if I jiggle the camera back and forth, I hear some kind of plastic-ish jiggling/rattling inside the camera. I wouldn't expect it to do so, but who knows. Does this happen with your Vixia HF R800, as well? Thx.
@@FitsandFun - Thanks for your response! Hmmm, I don't think that's it (on mine, at least). But after scouring the online manual, it specifically stated "The camcorder may make a rattling sound if shaken."
It's ok, not great. To be honest, a cell phone from 2017 and up would probably render a much better image. However the zooming capabilities of the Vixia will give totally different perspectives vs a standard cell phone video.
I also found stabilization in most cellphones to be inferior to this camcorder and it's always nice to have a dedicated device to not fill phone storage so that's something to consider as well
Very helpful video. I haven’t actually bought a camcorder yet I’m just getting my feet wet in seeing how to operate it. One question I do have, how hard is it to edit video that you have taken? Some guys tell me that you can download the app and you can do your editing and that versus the actual camcorder.
Thanks for the video, thumbs up! Question please: If recording for 1 or 2 hours, will the camcorder save the video as 1 single long file? Or will camcorder break up the video into smaller 4GB files? Also, this camcorder does have a 3.5mm microphone-in port, correct? If so, where do you place the external microphone since it has no hot/cold shoe?
I haven't found a black and white option like I've seen on some other Canon devices, just a sepia option. Tap the top left icon, third option down. It has cinema, vivid, sepia, old movie.

If you opened the lens cap/protector with the button on the side of the camcorder already, then I have no clue. I'd recomend a factory reset if you can still access the menu.
A couple of issues, when I go to manually change the exposure it will allow me to reduce the exposure but it does not allow me to increase any higher than zero, in fact all the positive numbers are not lit up....The other issue is that when I plug in headphones to listen to the video there is just a buzzing sound and no audio.
So I can clear up that headphone issue for you, if you haven't already figured it out. Head into the Home icon on the left of your screen, then go into 'Other Settings' and select the wrench tab along the top of the screen. Scroll down until you find a setting labeled 'AV/Headphones' and the rest is simple. I guess the system doesn't automatically account for headphone use.
