- Here's the next class 69 which appears to be largely complete and into testing. See 69013 (ex 56312) shuttling around the depot as the Electromotive team put the loco through it's paces before it heads off back indoors. Note the workflow document pinned to the side of the loco!
Also seen onsite are long term residents 60014, 56081 and 56303 plus demic 66048.
66781 which was recently named Ratcliffe Power Station is also on depot and seen next to the loadbank.

I'm always looking forward to seeing what livery they choose for their next one.
Prototype Deltic livery would be interesting...
Hear Hear ! What a livery that was.
I’m willing to bet this one will be a standard GBRF livery
Hi, good video that, I hope the panel beaters take the dents out of the side panel before it's final paint coat...😀
I love how retro they look, especially in the current livery!
It's excellent what GBRF are doing, but they should keep the previous name of the loco (56312).
I still can't get used to a grid sounding like a shed but I'm loving that they are still 'alive'
I love how they put a note saying 69013 on 69013, I thought that was funny! Great vid btw, looking forward to seeing what Arlington paint it into
That made me laugh also 👍
They've given the Grids a new lease of life, with pretty much the best pre-draconian emmissions standards diesel engine fitted. It goes to show that you don't always have to buy new, and often recycling something that already exists will do the job.
Amazing for a machine this old. It just shows what a solid machine they are and 40 + years old too. I saw my first one a couple of weeks ago and it did sound good.
@@graeme6084 Of course, you do realize that the engine within the loco has been replaced with a new one as well as upgrading all the test of the equipment? 🙂
@@jaybee1921Indeed I do. Looks and sounds amazing. My point was that it says a lot for the original construction that you can re engineer it at 40 years old !
@@graeme6084 That being said, it's my hope that something similar could be done with the rest of the remaining Class 60's...
great to see no 13 out but those ripples on the body panel . will stand out when glossed great vid
I’m not sure if it’s just me but I think these sound better than the class 66, despite having the same engine
Nice catch! 69013 should have its mainline test on Tuesday next week.
Where abouts?
@@charlie8562it will be out testing tomorrow between longport and Bescot on 0Z69 and 0Z70
@@protrainspotting7868I definitely cant do that then sadly
Excellent video as always 👍
I hope this one gets the livery of Kestrel or Lion.
Hope this one becomes Kestrel 2!
another gbrf loco ready nice one great work my man
Nice catch. Just 69014 and 69015 left to do and then something should happen with 60014 in 2025/2026.
Body looks a bit battered........hope Eastleigh paintshop have plenty of filler lol
Grid-yings keep on coming. Must be cost effective.
I believe they said about half the cost of a new locomotive.
The original (and so far only) order included 16 units
wish they had done up the class 60 and left the grids as grids
Apparently they looked at the 60 as well when they started the project, but the 710 diesel engine won’t fit in the class 60 bodyshell
@andrewreynolds4949 Yes, I'll read that somewhere too. Shame, but these locos are a business asset first and foremost.
They are going to experiment with a Caterpillar C-175 as the 710 is 4 inches too wide to fit in the mounts of the original and too tall to go inside the Class 60 hood. But the C-175 will fit with room to spare. The GE 7FDL16 would fit though as the MB275T is based on the GE FDL power unit from 1959-1968.
It's better than Grids being scrapped...
@@BritishRail60062 Do you have a source for that? I've never seen it confirmed anywhere, that would be great news
The body shell on this one looks a bit rough. I don’t envy the lads at Eastleigh trying to get it to look straight again ,there’s going to be a lot of sanding and filling needed.
I don't suppose 69013 will be a special livery, but even if it is GBRF blue I will be happy. I wonder what will happen with the 60. Thank you
Unfortunately that looks like nothing more than the cabs are left useful, so not much.
@Danse_Macabre_125 oh well thanks for your reply.
@tomward3656 wonder if it'd be possible to re-engineer a 60 though, as they are also very complex electronically
@Danse_Macabre_125 wasn't there an idea of creating a class 60/1 with parts from a class 66 or did I hear wrong.
What number did it use before 69013
Tinwork could be a bit straighter!
Body ripple look bad Will the class 60 get a Caterpillar engine ?
Bodywork looks a bit battered and some welding would not pass muster in my day, hope paintshop have plenty filler .
The 66 behind the 08 is presumably 315?
Two quick questions. First, has anyone heard anything regarding the livery for 013? Second, at 6:05, is that a cab from EMU/DMU? I'm thinking either an Electrostar or a Turbostar.
No word on livery, but my bet is on standard GBRF. The cab is from a diesel loco (possibly another 56, I’m not sure what kind)
Hope they have a panelbeater knock those ripples out of the body before painting ? 🤔
They could g8ve the local Chips Away franchise holder a call.
Any news on wether GBrF intends to re-engine the class 60?
Apparently, the class 66 motor doesn't fit.
Surely it could, class 60s have a bigger car body than the class 56s don't they?
@@nicolascollins1599 The base of the EMD 710 is too fat to fit in the original engine block well, and too tall to sit on top of the main frame level, is what I've heard.
I wonder how practical modifying the frame/engine bed would be...
@@nicolascollins1599 Given it's a significant part of the main structural frame of the locomotive, the answer is "it wouldn't be"
What’s happening with the 60s
Well, apparently fitting a 66 motor into them isn't a option, which is a huge shame. Such a waste of a good loco. But at the end of the day, it's hard business case decisions that dictate these things, nit the wishes of us enthusiasts.
