The REAR of TOTON TMD & STORED Locos that you don't NORMALLY See!

  • Most views of Toton TMD and yard are seen from the hill at the end of Bessell Lane or off the A52 road bridge - Neither location show you the rear of the depot, the avoiding lines and the stored locos at the back of the depot.
See aerial views of these areas allowing a viewpoint you wouldn't normally get.
All footage wad captured by a compliant sized drone, in line with the CAA UAS guidelines as of Feb-24.
Hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

My 1972 vauxhall viva still carries a TO depot allocation sticker, rail blue, which i applied in about 1980.

Use to be a lot better when it was full of peaks. Largest loco allocation on BR.

It looks totally devoid of any action at all sad really, I remember arriving on the hump yard with trains from Shirebrook a hive of activity day and night, Sad days now.

@tonyrobinson362 yes. Shed bashes to Toton always worthwhile in those days. 47s 'prettier' engines, but the peaks had a certain majesty in carrying the big Sulzer.

Excellent I worked into Toton regularly from Shirebrook on coal trains in the 70s shed was full of peaks, Had a photo took of me in the driving seat of Scafell Pike good days.

Great video showing just how big Toton was 😊 I was lucky enough to have visited the shed in the late 70s 80s when it was bursting with activity and it had its signal boxes still standing 👍🏻 Happy days

I guess the place still needed to be capable of supplying motive power in order to transport literally millions of tons of coal & steel around the country back then.

The only remotely comparable site I recall from my younger days in the 70s & 80s was Cardiff Canton.

Most of those you see on this video is in use at the depot to be maintained or re-liveried to DB red. It’s the stuff on the opposite side of the mainline that is sat rotting.

I’m surprised how many DB liveried 66s there are laid up, what looks like sandwiched in by much longer term stored stuff.
Have these shiny ‘new’ red 66’s got serious mechanical issues?

You were lucky to get round it in the 80s.... I tried in the middle/late 70s, and found it impossible... They just as well have had watch towers at strategic points on the site.... Enjoy the rest of your day.

Me and my brother wrote to BR when they used to issue depot permits and got one for Toton. The date was 04.08.84 I was only 13 and my brother 17 and they basically gave us free rein of the depot both inside and out. We even climbed into cabs of the locos inside. I can still remember this vividly now. Many 20/56/58’s which were just being built, so most of the first batch were on shed. Now those WERE the days!!

Good afternoon to you..... You have done many an outstanding video in the past of various TMDs located around the UK ((Toton included), but in my opinion this absolutely tops the lot..... I honestly didn't know that there were sidings around the back. What a great shame no spotter can see it from the grass bank where the "stored" tugs are, or from the over bridge on the A52... It looks like an impossibllity to get to unless you are employed by DB at Toton depot..... An absolutely stunning video and thank you so much for taking the time and effort for all to enjoy....... Just a matter of interest, have you ever done an aerial video view of Laura in Plymouth?..... Keep up the fantastic work. With kindest regards from Nige.🚂🚂🚂

Would be nice if they offered a Charity Open Day for a Sunday during the Summer whilst the depot was at its quietest. Maybe draw 50 names out of a hat and the monies raised going towards helping local charities 👍

    • @cd66061
      @cd66061 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@cd66061Thanks for that. I'm guessing that long term members get first offerings when it comes to visits? So the chances of anybody joining this year and getting on the Toton Depot tour (if there is one this year) would be most likely to lose out?
