My wife's 2009 Cayenne did the very same thing. First the driver side, I shouldn't say this but, I took it in to the Porsche dealer you can only imagine what that cost... (Hundreds). A little over two years later. The passenger side let go. I told my wife I'm not taking it back to the dealer again. I googled youtube on how to fix the seat and watched your video I followed your directions. Two hours later it's holding great....
I had a Audi Q7 that had the same problem. Drove me crazy that I could not fix these seats till I lost interest in it and traded it in for a absolutely clean 2009 Porsche Cayenne in excellent condition with the exception of the seat back on the drivers side. I was furious when it fell off and the only suggestion from the car dealer was that we put screws in it which was a no go for me. Determined to find a fix I told the dealer to order the clips. He called Porsche and was told they don’t sell the clips separate. They would have to purchase the entire seat. I was sure someone had a fix to this problem without devaluing this car. I jumped on youtube and came across your video. I bought all the items you suggested and went to the body guy at my dealership asking him to fix it, showing him your video. He said it wasn’t gonna work because the brackets would not hold with the JB weld cause he thought pieces where missing. I refuse to accept his statement and proceeded to follow your advice myself. Your video was so accurate and detailed to me. I followed every step. After the JP weld appeared to have set I added the Gorilla glue, put the seat all the way back and left it for the night. The next day it was fixed. YES! I want to thank you for this amazing video! Now my car dealer says he’s gonna call me every time he has this problem with his cars. You are amazing!
Thanks! Comments like yours keep me doing this! Happy to help! I have a whole playlist of DIY Cayenne repairs and maintenance videos that might be helpful to you now that you are a Cayenne owner. bit.ly/2NvBE1n
Thanks to your video I saved a few hundred bucks. All the items needed to fix my seat back cost less than $30 at Lowes. Plus I will keep all the stuff ready for when the next seat back fails
Ummm... the seat back was glued to the frame from the factory when it was new. I'm putting it back together using the same procedure the Porsche factory used.
Hi- You made repairing the Cayenne seat back repair look very easy. My 2008 Cayenne driver seat back came off, but I can fine NO broken off clips inside the seat back area. Maybe a previous owner repaired it previously?!? So where did you get your replacement clips? Thanks!
I didn't have to buy replacement clips because mine were still attached. You will have to get creative in trying to find a solution. Best of luck with the repair!
I followed this to the letter and the gorilla glue did not hold! Do you have any ideas on what else might work and hold. Looking for something that will adhere to the fiber board.
Unfortunately you can't buy just the clips. Porsche only sells the seat back as a complete assembly. You could probably get away with using a metal coat hanger and bending it into the shape of the original clips.
Hi Dan, do you know the part name of the small round metal cover under each front headlight? My left one fell off and I want to replace it. However I can not find the part without knowing its name. Please let me know if you have any idea. Thank you.
Small round metal cover? I don't have any metal covers under my front headlights. What year is your Cayenne? You can try looking it up at the below website. Paramount has a nice parts catalog. Good luck! store.paramountauto.com/
I've actually lost the hook part at the bottom and the 3 black pieces at the top. Any suggestions of where I can get those? Ive searched everywhere and Porsche of course doesn't sell those individuals parts and don't want to spend $310 on one back seat cover
If it were me, I would JB-Weld something like this (www.walmart.com/ip/3M-Command-Large-Utility-Hooks-White-Organize-Damage-Free-6-Hooks/22700299) at the bottom to replace the lost hooks.
I am about to follow your procedure to do mine but just want to double check one thing. Is there any special reason you use super glue (instead of JB weld again) for the top 3 clips on the next day?
Hi Jenleeph74, I haven't come across that problem with my Cayenne yet, so I probably won't be of much help. However, I'm pretty sure the motor that reclines the seat is also the one that makes it come back up. It sounds like the motor is good since it reclines the seat. If I had to guess, I think your problem may lie in the switch you press to move the seat. Maybe start there? Have you asked this question on any of the Cayenne forums? Good luck!
Hey Dan, I"m looking into a 04 CTT with 54000miles. What do you think of the maintenance and long term costs since you've had tours for a while now. Thanks!
The problem with the Cayennes is all the cheap plastic Porsche used under the hood. I had to replace the intake Y pipe (cracking), coolant T's (pain in the butt), coolant vent hose, coolant overflow tank, and a few other brittle vacuum lines. Before I bought the car the previous owner had the coolant pipes replaced. Other than that all the repairs have been pretty typical for a car that is 12 years old -- valve cover gaskets, intercooler pipe seals, water pump, idler pulleys, etc.
Yeah, that is something I am quite afraid of. The one I'm looking at seems to be in very clean condition. I hope to be following your videos to do those repairs when they arise. I am afraid of the large issues that might make the vehicle a big money pit. The 54000miles vehicle will cost 15000 usd, so its not a small amount but I hope to be spending maybe 10% a year on maintenance. Do you think that is consistent with your experience? thanks very much for your time!
Wow! 15k USD for a 54k mile Cayenne seems really cheap. Yes, $1500 a year on maintenance wouldn't be out of line. If the car hasn't had the coolant pipes or coolant T's done, replace them right away.
Yeah, it is a good deal. The first thing I asked was about the coolant pipes and t's. I think those have been done, but I'm also worried about the cardan shafts, the coil packs, and water pump.
I asked about those right away. However the cardan shafts and other are unsure. The truck doesnt come with service history either. I am also concerned with the fact that it is a 2004. what do you think? Thanks!
Hi Dan any problems with the head liner falling down in the rear seat area in your cayenne? I have a 2006 CTS this just started over the summer of 2017. Any fixes for this?
Yes, Cayennes are notorious for this problem too. I had the dealer replace my headliner before I took delivery since it was sagging. Unfortunately I can't be of much help here since the dealer did the work on the head liner. However, I have been told it's best to completely replace the headliner instead of trying to re-glue and attach the old material. I have read that owners who have tried re-gluing the old material to the backing haven't had much luck with it lasting. Sorry I wasn't of more help but you're definitely not alone! There are some good threads on the internet that discuss headliner repair. Good luck!
Dan I was about to purchase a cayenne with the same issue. The dealers employee had the body guy try and tack it up and it looked terrible. My dealer told him the only way to fix it was to have it replaced completely. They had it completely replaced. I didn’t purchase this Porsche, but who ever did now has a brand new liner. 😉
My 2009 Cayenne did the same thing. First the driver side, then a few years later. last week, the passenger side let go. I couldn't remember how I fixed it the first time so I followed your directions to the letter. Your best suggestion is laying the seat WAY back touching the back seat to hold the glue while it sets up. WHAT A GREAT IDEA. I also used Gorilla Glue for the pads and JB Weld to reinforce the bottom clips. Thanks!

JB Weld: amzn.to/3OssmQV
Gorilla Glue: amzn.to/3Ou8psS
Wax & Grease Remover: amzn.to/3Ov8IDR

Can you upload a video of a Porsche cayanee seat that won’t recline forward
Hi Dan do you know where you can order just the little black clips if they are missing? Thanks!
AliExpress, about 18$ each clip
Do you know where I can find those clips for the bottom, that you jb weld on first?
Seat fell off and clips were missing
Aliexpress, about 18$ each clip
So what do you do if you need to work on the support bladders inside the seat if you glue the back shut??
Ummm... the seat back was glued to the frame from the factory when it was new. I'm putting it back together using the same procedure the Porsche factory used.
@@DIYDanCars
Oh, okay. Then I guess there is no need to access the bladders from the rear. They obviously can be accessed from the front.

Outstanding video, let my son borrow my GTS and his buddies took the back panel off my seat, PISSED found your video, I'm happy again, thankyou!!!
I followed this to the letter and the gorilla glue did not hold! Do you have any ideas on what else might work and hold. Looking for something that will adhere to the fiber board.
Put jb weld around the rim of the plastic and it will hold
Hey what if those clips that you super glue the back to are broken off n still stuck to back peace that fell off
Hi, what kind of glue did you use to glue seat to those 3 brackets?
I mention the glue in the video and also included links in the description. Hope this helps!
my clips are missing and need to replace do you have exact name so I can order online please?
Unfortunately you can't buy just the clips. Porsche only sells the seat back as a complete assembly. You could probably get away with using a metal coat hanger and bending it into the shape of the original clips.
You can 3d print the seat clips
Great video. What kind of glue did you use? Would a silicone glue be better? Thanks
In the Texas heat it didn’t last for me. The glue just melted. I’m going to use something more heat resistant.

Any chance you know if there are replacement clips sold anywhere?
Porsche parts now in Long Beach California
I just bought 2 clips and they were $12 that included shipping from Arkansas
Will it work if I don't have the broken fasteners at the bottom?
Probably not. You will need something to hold the bottom in.
Looking to buy the metal clips for the top 3 black brackets. Any suggestions? TIA
Sorry man! I don't know anyone who sells those pieces. You might have to do some scrap yard hunting. Good luck!
I've actually lost the hook part at the bottom and the 3 black pieces at the top. Any suggestions of where I can get those? Ive searched everywhere and Porsche of course doesn't sell those individuals parts and don't want to spend $310 on one back seat cover

What if you don’t have the clips can I just glue the seat back or would it not hold?
Hi I had the same problem so I’m curious what did you do about it? My clips went messing and I’m thinking about glueing the seat back
I am about to follow your procedure to do mine but just want to double check one thing. Is there any special reason you use super glue (instead of JB weld again) for the top 3 clips on the next day?
I don't think JB Weld will bond to the fiber board? You can try it. The Gorilla Glue is still holding up strong after all these years.
Hi Dan. My cayenne's driver seat reclunes but doesnt come forward. Can u suggest a fix? Tq

DIY Dan yup. I figured also. Thx
Mine did this
It was the plug in under the seat
Can you remove the seat back for other purpose?

It's a shame. Porsche should offer a recall to fix this issue or offer replacements on those those clips.

Dan could tape do the same job if the fastners are lost or broken beyond repair?
It might? You don't have anything to lose. Give it a try and let us know if it worked.
On my second Cayenne and this is a pain!
Does that mean you're getting good at repairing these? ha ha ;)
where can I get the brackets , one of mine is broken?
My clips are missing thinking of making some from a 3d printer
Ryan that is a good idea. They don't have to be perfect either. As long as the clips clear the support bar you will be golden. Good luck!

Such an expensive vehicle made with such a crappy and cheap design. Totally unacceptable. I had to do something similar to my Mercedes.
